  1. I am looking to purchase a new frog rod. Last year I had great success with it but used my 7’9 heavy punch rod. I am buying a rod in the Abu Garcia Veritas lineup. I am not looking for other rod manufacturer suggestions. I have narrowed it down to 3 rods in the Veritas lineup. 7’3H, 7’6MH, or 7’6 MH frog model. It looks like the obvious choice would be the frog model, but I fish very heavy cover mats and I am worried about this rod not having enough backbone. The regular 7’6MH has a faster tip but I have the same concerns with the backbone of a MH rod in thick slop. However, the 7’3H rod worries me being that short in a heavy action, and sacrificing a lot of casting distance. Or only being 7’3 being too stiff at the tip compared to the 7’9 I used last season. I have 15 Veritas Rods already and know they run heavier than rated. I’m sorry for the long post, but any suggestions would be appreciated. The reel for this rod will be a gen4 Revo STX 7.3:1 with 65# braid.
  2. Me and a friend will be making a trip to Illinois to do some fishing on lake kinkaid the second week of September. Anyone have any advice or pointers. This will be our first time fishing in Illinois or even seeing the lake so any help will be appreciated..
  3. Need a little insight. Planning a trip the second week of September. Any input would be appreciated
  4. I am planning a trip there the second week of September. I have never even seen the lake. Any tips advice or pointers would be appreciated. Water clarity, what to expect, or suggestions on what parts of the lake to rule out too. Thank you.
  5. Veritas all the way. I have three of them and just bought a veracity as well. I've probably had 6-8 abu rods and never had any problems out of them. Their always great for me and very sensitive. Everyone always talks trash on them and I don't get it. Very sensitive and durable. They are a little on the stiff side of their rating but that's part of the reason I like them better. Jmo
  6. Do you guys ever dip your jigs? Skirt, trailer and all?
  7. I just ordered my first bottle of jj's magic and I've done a lot of reading and know all about the horror stories of it dripping and staining and stinking. But I keep reading it melts certain baits? Anyone have any experience with this actually happening? I bought the clear just because I wanted the scent only for dipping jigs and plastics in
  8. I also was unsure how black/blue would do in clear water. I always throw it in dirty water but never clear....
  9. Yes I use a lot of mainly watermelon reds and pumpkin or green pumpkin. Just seeing if anyone had that special go to in water this clear
  10. I typically fish crystal clear water. Sometimes when we've not had any rain for a week or more you can see the bottom in 20' of water. So what color jigs would you guys throw?
  11. I use a skeet reese crankbait rod. It's good for the money but is a little on the heavy side
  12. What about eliminating braid? Is it really possible with 25# flourocarbon? Or am I just going to be breaking off in heavy cover?
  13. Well I've always used invizx but think I'm going to give red label a shot on my jig rod. Do you guys prefer 15 or 20 pound test?
  14. Have you ever used invizx? If so how does the stretch compare? And if not does the two you do use have any noticeable stretch?
  15. Abu garcia Veritas are super cheap right now. I have three and love them. $100 rod for $60 I think right now
  16. I have been using seaguar invisx for a couple years now and I really like the line except for the amount of stretch it has. I just bought a new jig rod and would like to respool my reel with about 15lb flourocarbon ( I have another reel with braid to throw on the rod when needed). Does red label still cast good with less stretch or is it stretch the same? And any thoughts on abrazx as well?
  17. Flourocarbon for 99% of uses. I fish crystal clear lakes and love the feel. I hate braid
  18. Good old fashioned jigs. And senkos
  19. I guess I'll stick with my origional intentions to go with a medium heavy
  20. So I'm assuming you couldn't cast it at all? Strictly flippin or pitchin
  21. I was just wondering since their medium heavy rods were so stiff if anyone had, and liked their heavy action rods? Or are they lacking too much sensitivity? Any experienced feedback would be greatly appreciated
  22. As everyone else says it's hard to get them dialed in. I just sold one because of this. I'm a big revo guy so for me it's not even an option. The revo premier is my favorite reel. Get another
  23. That's why I'm worried that maybe I need to go with the 7' 3 MHF for my origional post
