  1. Both are high quality rod manufacturers, and which one you choose is more based on personal opinion than fact.
  2. No specifications whatsoever? For all we know you could be fishing for Dolphin.
  3. A sturdy abrasion resistant monofilament is all you need. My vote goes to low-vis green 17lb Berkley XT.
  4. Shimano Citica 200e. Great reel for $119.99, an extremely great reel for the price of $95 as some eBay sellers are asking. Aqua Superstore also has some great prices. Abu Garcia Revo S would be a good reel too but isn't a good all-around reel, IMO it's more suited for flippin'/heavy jig/froggin'.
  5. Team Daiwa SOL or Shimano Core 50mg. SOL retails for $249 and the Core for around $369.
  6. Shimano Citica 200e. 6'6" Medium St. Croix Mojo Bass. 12lb Stren. Pflueger Supreme 8030. 7' Medium St. Croix Mojo Bass. 8lb Trilene XL.
  7. Shimano Curado 200e7 is a little over 7oz but is under $200. Team Daiwa SOL would be great as well but has a slow gear ratio and is over $200.
  8. Shimano Stradic CI4. 2500-size may be better if your using fluorocarbon, especially. With the 1000-size, you'll only be able to put up to 6lb line on it and fluorocarbon would be a hassle to deal with. Shimano Cumara Spinning Rod, 7'2" MED XTRA-FAST would be a great finesse rod. These sale for $199. You could go less expensive but that Stradic/Cumara combo would be light as heck!
  9. Shimano Curado 200e7 (201e7 for lefty's). These retail for $179. Won't cast light baits??? HA! I'd like to see someone put a Curado against any of the beefy, sluggish Revo's and try to cast a 4" worm and 1/8oz weight. Oops, sorry. Revo's are great reels also, just can't cast light stuff well. If you were just going to use your reel for heavy jigs and fishing the grass than I'd recommend a Revo. But for all-around? Curado E7 all the way.
  10. Shimano Curado 200e7. Why? It has the versatility to cast 1/4oz poppers but has no problem with fishing the mats and thick grass. The reel is super smooth and has 11lb's of drag pressure, plenty enough for most bass fishing. The only reason I'd pick ANY of the Revo "S" series reels over a Curado is if you were doing some extra heavy jig fishing or frog fishing and needed that extra drag pressure.
  11. Treble hooks -- 7' medium. Moderate tip. Softer tip makes treble hooks not pull out as easily. Single hooks -- 7' medium/heavy. Fast tip or Xtra Fast tip. Need a fast tip and good backbone to set the hook with single hook lures.
  12. Pflueger Trion 4735. It will handle any of your 6lb, 8lb, and 10lb mono that you'll use for bass and walleye. Pair it up with a 6'6" or 7' M all graphite rod and that's gonna be a very good multi-purpose combo.
  13. The Curado is a very, very good reel but a Revo would just be so much better for heavy cover. Actually in that heavy cover and flipping and pitching is the only time I'd recommend any other reel than the Curado. I'd go Revo STX,
  14. Ah, they'd be nice if you wanted something "different". But if you wanted a nice reel (and didn't have a huge amount of expensive reels) I'd go with something else, such as one of the Curado E's or the Revo's. But if you've tried the Curado's, Revo's, etc and want something different than an Ardent may make you happy.
  15. 1.) 7.5" black Culprit original worm, Texas-rigged, 1/4oz bullet weight. Larger profile and dark color show up even in the muddiest conditions, and the ribbontail really gets the bass' attention. 2.) 1/4oz black skirt/gold Colorado blade spinnerbait. May even go with the black painted blades, but I personally like the gold ones. A lot of pond fish get scared half-to-death by a 1/2oz or bigger spinnerbait. It's best to downsize some types of baits, 3.) 1/4oz firetiger or wounded firetiger lipless crankbait. Always one of the first lures I pick up in muddy water. 4.) 1/2oz black/blue jig, 3" craw trailer. maybe even an 1/4oz jig. thats all i got. but any of those should work, if not nuttin will.
  16. Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier reel, BY FAR. And the Pinnacles are nice for the price, too. But if you worked for them, you'd be recommending them too! ;D
  17. Go with the Revo. The heavy flipping, pitching, frogging, etc. is the only times I would pick a Revo over a Curado. With the outstanding 24lbs of drag pressure the Revo would be great for the heavy stuff.
  18. Find a used Shimano Curado 100d. These work great for light lures, but they don't make the 100-series now. Only place to get them is eBay, and they're readily available. Other than that, a Shimano Citica may toss light lures well. The Revo S wouldn't be a good choice, it's better for heavy stuff.
  19. That Curado will handle anything from 10lb to 15lb mono great. But, 25lb mono? No way. You shouldn't need that high of a line unless you're pitchin n flippin. If you really do need that high of a line, go with 30lb or 40lb braid. My favorite line that works good for all-around fishing is Stren. But for braid, go with PowerPro.
  20. Shimano Curado 200e7, 7.1:1 gear ratio. Hey, I can always slow down, St. Croix Mojo Bass 6'6" Medium action rod. 12lb Stren original clear/blue mono. This would work for anything I get myself into when it comes to bass fishing.
  21. 7'6" Medium/Heavy St. Croix Mojo Bass trigger rod. $100.
  22. 6'6" Medium/Heavy action rod will work for all of those. Might not be the best rod for all of those but it will still work. And a 6-to something gear ratio. Whether it be 6.1:1, 6.3:1, or 6.4:1, these gear ratio's work best overall. Definitely go with a 6-to something gear ratio with a 6'6" medium if you like to throw mostly light lures, or medium/heavy if you throw a lot of heavier stuff.
  23. ($120) Shimano Citica 200e baitcasting reel. ($100) St. Croix Mojo Bass 7' medium or 6'6" medium/heavy casting rod. Carrot Stix are a little too "gimmicky" for my taste.
  24. Reel #1 -- Shimano Curado 200e7. Reel #2 -- Shimano Curado 200e7. Reel #3 -- Abu Garcia Revo STX or SX. When you need casting distance, the Curado is the way to go. But a lot of people like the Revo's over the Curado's for crankbait fishing.
  25. David Fritts Signature Series crankin' reel. These are discontinued now but you can find them on eBay. Since I'm practically a new member the site won't let me post a link to one of the reels on eBay until I've posted 10-messages without links. Just search "David Fritts" on eBay and a few of these reels will pop up. The slow-gear ratio, cheap price, and reliable performance makes this reel a no-brainer, especially for crankbait fishing.
