I have been stumped on a few lakes in my area when using nightcrawlers. On these lakes I started using wigglers, or panfish worms and the fish tear them up. I dont know what the major difference is other than size but they like them. Try to locate these smaller, more active worms and give them a try.
  2. I was 14 and fishing with a friend at a local pond. My friend was casting a rapala. Well he decided to cast sideways along the bank and that nice lil rapala found its way right between my legs. Enough said , I will remember it for life and I always wear baggy pants or shorts now when fishing. :-/
  3. Shimano and Quantum are at a tie for me.
  4. I just picked up a 6'6" baitcasting version today. I love the feel and the weight. I am going to be trying it out this weekend. I was amazed at how light the rod is and the grip is very comfortable in my hand. I have always found split grips uncomfortable to use but I like this one a lot. I may have just found my new favorite rod since I cant afford the Loomis rods. If it passes the fishing test this weekend I will be replacing my other rods with these.
  5. Ditto on the I don't care for the split grips. They just do not feel natural in my hand. I agree with some that you can feel the action better with your hand directly on the blank though. But I still prefer the full handle for comfort.
  6. IMO I think you got hold of some bad line. I have been using 40# Stren Sonic Braid for a while now and I have had little to no problems with it. I have learned that a backlash with braid can be a pain but other than that, I love it.
  7. Good job catching those fish Dwight.
  8. Ugly fish or not, that is a nice catch. I bet she put up a good fight.

  10. Good advice. Thanks.
  11. Haha... what a horrible trip that was. one 8#er. 10 dinks. $300 in lost baits including 1 custom.... :-/ That should of been my sign as to how my year was gonna be :'( Good Times good times ;D Ouch.

  14. Welcome ib_of_the_damned!
  15. Could that be a male bass that ticked off his female mate that proceeded to kick his %@$ all over the lake? Seriously, that looks painful.
  16. I think that is a good point to think about also. Thanks WRB.
  17. I have to admit, I have most always been told just that. That you don't have to set the hook much with a crank. I have also seen it said many times on here. But what you are saying makes a lot of sense. It makes me think hard about how I fish a crank bait and about how I will try to do it differently the next time I use one. Thank you for thoughts and experience on the subject. IMO, another lesson I have learned. J-B
  18. That is a great story. I am glad that all of the anglers in that tourney stopped to help those guys out. God does work in mysterious ways. Wow. I am at a loss of words now.
