  1. Great deal. Lately my 9 year old daughter has been out-fishing me by using her purple sided chrome rat-l-trap. LOL. It never seems to fail her. I think alot of it seems to be the reel that she uses. It is a basic zebco type reel and I think that the speed of the reel is ideal for rat-l-trap baits. I am going to have to get one for myself (the pink reel and the bait).
  2. Personally, for a 7 to 10 inch worm I would use at least a 4/0 or 5/0 or maybe even a bit larger. I selected the 3/0 by mistake I meant to click on the 4/0.

I don't have any room to rag you because I have asked guys here for donations for a foundation that I am setting up to use fishing events to raise money to help others. I will agree with what others have said here, begging is not the way to get anything in most cases. Ask the right questions (try to think it through before you post) and there are an incredible amount of amazing anglers here that will be happy to help you any way they can, myself included. Post your questions about tackle making in the tackle making section of this forums and there will be many guys and gals with lots of experience willing to give you advice and, or help. I am far from being a professional at anything here but I have learned much just by reading the posts that people have put on here. There is a wealth of knowledge available for you at BR. Don't ever be scared to ask for an answer or help if you need it. I for one will be there if I can to give you the answer or the help that you need. JB
  4. I went fishing with a friend the other day. For about 2 hours we got skunked. We tried little georges, watermellon, green pumpkin, and black senkos, crank baits, you name it and nothing. My friend had some pink...ahem.. I mean bubble gum trick worms. We figgured what the heck and tried them and what do you know...we started pulling fish in the boat. It was amazing. I plan on getting a package of ...BUBBLE GUM worms this weekend for my tackle box.
  5. Ok then. CastForACause.org has been registered. Now the fun part, trying to create a website for it. LOL...if anyone knows somebody that is really good with web design and might be willing to design a nice one for a charitable organization for free please let me know. But Thank you for all of the support!!!!
  6. Please vote. Please ask everyone that you know to vote on a name. Thanks guys.
  7. I know this is a little off topic, but i see a great idea here. CastForACause could be a nationwide program where communites fish for whatever cause they might have. (obviously, yours would go to cancer, but others might buy new b-ball goals, or park benches, or whatev.) You have a tough job ahead of you deciding which way to go with it. b Brent, that idea is really grabbing at me now. I like that whatever cause thing. Nice thinking. You know what everyone, I like the castforacause.org. Thank you to everyone for all of your great suggestions.
  8. Thank you. I will be doing that. As of this time, the four that I am considering are available.
  9. I am liking where this is going. Thanks guys. Somebody else suggested caretocast.org. I like Brent's idea of something that can go nation wide. And with the help of people like you guys, it can be done. So far I like the following choices in order: 1. caretocast.org 2. fishingforhope.org 3. castforhope.org 4. castforacause.org What do you guys like?
  10. I guess I should have said that info. Currently I run an organization that raises money to provide financial aid to families fighting cancer. Times have been very slow lately for us. So, I am trying to get this fishing event started to help raise money to help these families or to put towards finding a cure. Either option is open at this time as I am still creating the event. Most importantly it is to provide a fun day for the kids. Many of these kids need some fun and many of the families can not afford to do anything because of what they have been going through. I enjoy helping them and I think this would be great for many of the kids.
  11. I am working on setting up an event for fishing with kids that have cancer. I have my organization's name but I am wanting to come up with something catchy for a website name for this. I have received many ideas and I like a lot of them. So far I like fishingforhope.org, castforacause.org and caretocast.org. All three leave it open to grow out in many directions. CareToCast rolls off of the tongue the easiest and suggests that we care, CastForACause promotes for a cause and FishingForHope says what it is. A new poll is up. Thanks, JB
  12. I agree with many here that if the other person is nice I have no problem telling them a good place to fish. I have a few hidden spots that I keep to myself just to give me the ability to take the kids to a place where they can catch some fish. Most of the time though, I love to discuss fishing styles and where to use them with other anglers.
  13. A man of principle... just another reason you are top shelf in my book, Raul. I gotta have a serious talk with them people of ***, we ( myself included ) send them a lot of business, it 's time for them to share a small part of that benfit by sponsoring BR. I agree.

I use a monofilament line (floating line) and I learned to leave a loose loop on the bait when I tie the knot. It allows the bait to move more freely. Also try to use your wrist when jerking the rod and less arm. The advice above about using a shorter rod and leaving slack in the line is great advice. Get good with it and then upgrade to a longer rod. A stiffer rod (MH) helps also (at least for me) it gives you a little more control over the bait. I use a 6'6" MH rod and it works fine. It takes lots of practice to get it right. I am still working on perfecting it myself.

That is a beast of a worm. Just go all out and tie on a tow hook. Seriously though. You will do good with the 5/0 ewg.
  16. I have caught many that are 1-4 lbs and PB on a senko was 7.2 pounds on a watermelon 5" senko. I have caught some crappie on them also.
  17. HAHAHA ;D ;D That is great! Thanks for the laugh. Just keep the fish attractant on the plastic worm and there should be no problems with that style of fishing So far I like Zoom and Powerbait. I have thought to "sniff" other plastics yet.
  18. This is a great link posted by RW about using a senko to catch bass. Read it and try it. It works in most waters. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137/0 Keep reading and learning. You will eventually find something that works for bass in your neck of the woods. Also read the fishing articles in the top left of the forums. There is some incredible information there that can help you. I hope that some of it helps you.
  19. Anything from Mattlures, senkos or 1/2oz Little George.
  20. Give me any little known pond or small lake any day. I love to fish the small waters that get little attention.
  21. do you think about women? Oooooohhhhohohohohohoho!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Oh that made me laugh good. Thank you for that one. LOL!!!!
  22. After reading that, my brain seems to interpret this: that if I keep letting my brain do the job of interrupting all of my thinking and senses...I will fail to push anything to the next level.
  23. That is good advice. It is a very good idea to ask other anglers in your area what techniques they use in your area. Also, try different colors, different speeds and different rigs. The shaky head rig with a floating worm works good in the summer time as it gets the worm to the bottom but allows it to stand up and wiggles as you move the tip of the rod. If it is hot weather where you are at, the bass will most likely be deeper in the water and not along the shores. I have been having luck with watermelon/red flake and baby bass colors lately. Where you are at blue, pumpkin or white might work better. You will just have to try the colors and see what works. With darker, murky water the darker colors tend to work best. If the water is clear use colors like white, pumpkin, baby bass...light colors. Cast into the shallow water and play with the rod, take note on how the worm reacts in reaction to how you move the rod. Use those movements when you cast into deeper water. Keep at it. Over time you will get better at it and catch more fish. Never give up! We all got stumped once in a while. Quite frequently when we first started bass fishing.
  24. "Bass fishermen watch Monday night football, drink beer, drive pickup trucks and prefer noisy women with big breasts. Trout fishermen watch MacNeil-Lehrer, drink white wine, drive foreign cars with passenger-side air bags and hardly think about women at all. This last characteristic may have something to do with the fact that trout fishermen spend most of the time immersed up to the thighs in ice-cold water. ~Author Unknown" I love it. LOL
