What's a good pitching reel/rod combo?
I would get a Curado 200e7, Powell Max 705c, and 50# PowerPro.

Nice day
Yeah, I'm clueless as to what to use. I might have to flip the pockets in the mats to get the big mama's.

Nice day
Caught four yesterday, and six today. Last five I caught today were on my new spinning rod. This rod is actually really sensitive. I could feel the little 'gills nibbling on my Trick Worm. Still no big ones, I'm thinking they're on the beds under the mats. Biggest of the day:

They seem like a good "back of the truck" rod. Also they would be good if you wanted to try a new technique and needed a rod for it.

A new phenomenon for 2010...
Yeah, that fish I posted about yesterday, which I said was 1/2 lbs., was actually 11.2. ;D ;D ;D

Is it crazy that...
I definitely WOULD NOT do that. Put it in your bank account and let it grow.

Got a spinning rod!
A couple of weeks ago I saw the new Field and Stream "Tec Spec" rods and handled them for a while. I thought they were light, crisp and sensitive, not to mention they look sweet (a lot like a Cumara). Today I was looking for some Spro Frogs, which they don't sell. I ended up looking at the rods again, and decided to try one out, considering I need a spinning anyway. For $60, I'm so far pleased. I got the 6'8" MXF and paired it with a Sahara 2500 and Yo-Zuri Hybrid 6#. This combo will be for shakey heads, stick baits, drop shot, split shot, etc. etc. Normally I wouldn't just up and buy a rod without ever hearing anything about it, especially from a brand like Field and Stream, but I had a ton of Rewards Points and two $10 cards. I ended up paying $26 for it. I'm excited about the pickup and will let y'all know what I think after my trip to the pond today!

Looking through some pictures.....
And I found this one. My bro caught this fattie last May on a Trick Worm. Looking at it again, this fish was F-A-T. I think it was 5.2 lbs. That day of fishing was awesome. We were using a pack of Red Sapphire Trick Worms (which I can't find anywhere :'() and caught about 15 in ten minutes.

FINALLY!
I was, but I was using a leader. Stupid, yes.

Powell Max
Nail on the head....you hit it. I'll add the 7'H is a little more versatile and is good for larger spinnerbaits as well. Thanks both of you. This will definitely be a technique-specific setup. As for the reel....Curado? ;D I have two powells, and both have curados How do they balance with the 705c?

Stickmarsh/Farm 13
Wow. Just wow.

Which line would u perfer?
Hopefully CX or CXX. They are both great lines.

I've decided to use my Lowrider LFC-6-17 for reaction baits (the only reaction baits I use are spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and then occasional jerkbait). The action of the rod is too flimsy for contact baits in the places I fish. I want to get a rod to use for t-rigged Brush Hogs and such, and I want to try a Powell. I know it will have 50# PowerPro with a 15# CXX leader. So, when I eventually get a rod for this technique, which model should I get? I was thinking the 7' Mag-Heavy. Is this rod pretty stout?

Need Some Suggestions.

FINALLY!
Got the skunk off my back! Went today for about 2.5 hours. Started off slop fishing with a frog. First cast yielded a strike, no hookup. Same with the second and fifth. After that cooled down I moved to a different spot and threw a t-rigged Ika to no avail. Next spot with the frog, got a BIG blow up, waited a second, and set the hook. Apparently my P-Line CXX 15 lb. decided it was a good time to give out ;D Lost the only frog I brought that day. About an hour or so later, I pitched a Senko to a little rock pile and watched that all-too familiar "tick" in the line. This little guy went about half a pound. Normally I wouldn't post a picture of such a dink, but I just wanted everyone to believe that Fat-G CAN still catch a fish. ;D Great weather today. I think some of the fish are done spawning and recovering from the love fest. The bite should pick up in a few days. I can't wait to catch a big girl.

What rig is that?- Help with flippin light jigs
I might be misunderstanding the term flipping, but i am just making short underhand tosses. Either way i am getting back lashed with light finesse baits That's pitching. Try tightening the spool tension then slowly loosen it so the jig falls reasonably fast, then try engaging two+ brakes. The Curado is a great at handling light baits. - Line for jigs
