  1. I agree, lower cost and more weight for duck fishing. My wife now refers to that combo as my "duck rod".
  2. At first it was funny watching the line run off the spool so fast but then I realized it was going to end and I might lose the gear. In the end I only lost a $4 rat-L-trap and $3 worth of line.
  3. The new shimano cumara series are some great crankbait rods. I have a 7'M and it is a killer combo with a core 50 reel. I highly recommend the rods and at $200 they are hard to beat.
  4. I not only caught a fish early this morning, I also caught a mallard duck in the air flying low over the water. The ducks came flying over just as I cast my fishing lure and I hooked one of the ducks in the wing. He kept flying and emptied the spool on my fishing reel of 100 yards of line and then it pulled loose from the ducks wing. I was fishing with a steez combo and if I had let go the duck would have flown away with a 9 oz $800 combo. One of the wildest experiences of my life.
  5. Youre upset because you CANNOT pay sales tax and therefore you think you CANNOT purchase the item? Did I miss something? I wish that would happen to me when Im buying a new $300+ reel or rod from a business seller on ebay.
  6. Chris, I hope you will be at the roadtrip event, I want you for a fishin buddy!
  7. Dock Master, not to change topic on you but I am also from NC (go UNC Tarheels !) and that water is near some prime deer hunting grounds. Since its deer season I'd grab my rifle and hit the woods. I got my first big buck, a 10 point, in that area when I was 14.
  8. co-sign. Cabelas has the Sol spinning on sale for $150 and after an hour of playing with the reel on different rods i picked up a Steez mounted on a Lowrider and it was like a slice of heaven. i suggest everyone has at least one. Not to steal your the thread and steez spinning reel is sweet and I own 1 but I made the mistake of holding a new stella and to me its even sweeter. As soon as I decide on a rod I will definitely own a stella. I think the STL1000 model would be awesome on a SJR721S or SJR722S GLX rod and make a great lightweight spinning combo.
  9. A Palomar tied properly will never fail and its easy and fast to tie. Just remember to wet it before tightening the knot.
  10. Calm down tiger, be patient, you WILL catch a big one soon!
  11. Im finding that since I got the count down to 7 (and working to get it a bit lower) Im enjoying the fishing more. Instead of adding more, I now focus on selling and replacing existing setups with a better match for my type of fishing. I think I'll probably end up with 5 or 6 which is still 2 or 3 more than needed. I was thinking last night, I use the same 2 combos over 90% of the time. My wife tells me all the time, "sometimes more is just more".
  12. Everything else is just gravy 8-)
  13. Steez have bearings? I thought the spool floated on clouds, it certainly feels that way. : (apologize for hijacking your thread)
  14. That "other" site might be questionable but ***.com just matched their price and I got a $475 steez rod for $399. Daiwa Steez Fle-X-Lite 7'M Casting Rod STZ701MRBA-FL Thanks BR forum !
  15. That's the best analogy Ive read in a long time.
  16. I got caught up in the technique specific ordeal this past summer and before I knew it I had 11 combos, each rigged for a specific bait and/or technique. After a couple of months I sat down and thought about it and realized I was rarely ever using some of the combos. I now put more thought into what type of fishing I do the most and have narrowed the count down to 7 combos. Its probably great to have a setup for each specific technique and like RW said "it sure is fun to have exactly the right tool for a specific job" but in my case since I have spoiled myself its a ton of money tied up just sitting there seldom used. I'm now having more fun (and catching more fish) concentrating on fishing rather than if I am using the perfect combo for a specific technique.
  17. Skeet22, you have mostly 6'6" rods and while theres nothing wrong with that I used to have all 6' rods but once I tried a much longer rod (7') I quickly realized the longer rod made for a much more enjoyable fishing. Let the upgrade process begin !
  18. A black craw T-rigged weighless worked very very slow in and around cover has been getting a lot of hits the past few days.
  19. YES, x100. If you really want to know, just go to BPS or Cabelas and buy a steez rod and reel, go fish with it for a day. If you dont like it you can return it for a full refund but I would be willing to bet you wll NOT return it.
  20. I agree 100% with Lucky Craft Man, I own a lot of steez rods and reels and its a lot about the enjoyment of using really nice gear. I also own several GLX rods and a lot of Core 50 reels and I enjoy fishing with them but to me theres nothing like a steez. Its sensitive, lightweight and the reels are very smooth.
  21. The Shimano Scorpion is rated for 12# line, do you have any problem going so far outside the specs with the Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 ?
  22. RW, what do you think about a Med-Light 7' rod and a lightweight 7.x BC reel using 10# line for weaightless soft plastics?
  23. When everything fails simply throw a weightless black craw or senko near cover and/or the shallow areas, fish it slowly and be patient, they WILL hit it.
  24. Wow, Raul I thought I was obsesive ! I like the way you operate.
