  1. I might gamble on a seat belt but never gamble o a life jacket. I wear one and make sure there is a extra or two in the boat. Youre always farther from the shore than you think.
  2. Comon Dan tell us how you really feel about that seat. and I thought I was imagining things when the seat on a BPS rod unscrewed when I was fishing. Sorry to go off topic.
  3. Geez, I'm already down to 5.5 oz, I guess the guide would take off another .1 oz and the worm gear another .2 oz. :-?
  4. To me, YES, unless Im topwater fishing, then its mostly sight and timing.
  5. I try to fish everyday (at least 2 hours). Dont let your family discourage you. Im in the same boat, no one in my family likes it either and they think its a waste of time. Its a great hobby and sounds like you really look forward to it and enjoy it. Stay focused on school work and fish often when you get free time.
  6. The automatic centering would be just when the spool is release during casting. It would reengage and move side to side during retrieve.
  7. Please dont say a ultra light spinning outfit. Youre killing me mrlitetackle, you catch some awesome fish on the most delicate gear. My hats off to you, youre a true angler.
  8. Is line stacking on the spool an issue with the guide removed? Reel Mechanic, is that a good idea to alter the operation of a reel that way?
  9. I used dark green heat shrink on the cork of one of my loomis rods and it turned out great.
  10. RM, correct its not exactly custom but I wont say anything neg or against a builder or their methods on an open forum unless they really did me wrong and it was obvious to everyone. The "Shikari" blank works and feels good so its still a good rod.
  11. Wow, petervd has way to much time free time, thats a lot of research. I wont even try to address all the piece parts of posts that petervd pieced together, without seeing all the posts involved it is impossible to understand the context of all the statements. I will stand behind my response to J Francho in this thread where I said, "I recall one time I posted that I would get one and compare it to a glx or steez but I was not implying I thought it was as good and probably should have never made that statement". I knew I should not have posted this review. So much for trying to be helpful. I hope I provided some useful info about the G-Blanks rod. Gotta feeling this thread is about to die, RIP!
  12. Or G. Loomis and use their Xpeditor replacement program.
  13. Doesnt anyone have a 202 from the late 60's or early 70's. Sorry, thats a zebco 202 and it was before a lot of these guys were born. JK Now back on topic. I think it is unfortunate that some have had issue with the G-Blanks rods. Larry always communicated very well with me and he told me if the rod broke due to an issue with the blank that G-Blanks would replace it. Maybe I should have got more details about the warranty or got something in writing but I have minimal expectations of a small company selling $150 rods. I not saying anything negative I just take it for what it is. Now if my custom from Otterods breaks, I will be all over Matt Davis at Otterods and Gary Loomis at NFC.
  14. I just gotta ask, what rod/reel did you use to catch that fish. A lightweight spinning combo? 8-) If so, no long did you play her before landing?
  15. I was going for a black stealthy look, nothing flashy (this time).
  16. flechero, Im ignorant (but learning) on rod building terms, whats a "Tharp seat"?
  17. If I just caught a fish and it went through cover or by any rocks or logs or the fish was large then I will probably retie. Otherwise I just check the line esp. near the lure/hook and if it looks pulled/worn or anything about the know just doesnt look right I will retie. Just my preference.
  18. Checking my line and making myself re-tie was the hardest things to force myself to do but since Ive established that habit of checking and re-tying, I loose a lot less fish. When youre catching fish you get excited and the fundamentals go out the window but its worth the extra effort to take care of the details.
  19. Thats a killer warranty and awesome customer support. A company like that will never go out of business. They get it! I've looked at Kistler and they make some very nice looking rods. If they fish as good as they look then it must be a pleasure to use them.
  20. I had a choice between an RX8 or Shikari. I don't know the difference so I told the rod builder to pick the best (in his opinion) of the 2 blanks. I would have asked on this forum but didn't want to hear all the crap from the people that have never owned or touch either blank. My G-Blanks is a good rod for $150 and I don't regret the purchase. My next custom will be from Matt at OtterRods. I decided to go to the other end of the spectrum with this rod and after exchanging about 20 emails, all the components have been selected and Matt is working on a quote for me now and hope it can be built this year. The biggest delay will be waiting on one of Gary Loomis new (North Fork Composites) blanks. It will be a lot more expensive than any of my Steez or GLX rods and will look out of this world sick!
  21. I received the G-Blanks rod I ordered, Ive fished with it and below are my opinions. G-Blanks Custom Rods (Larry Mitchell,918-341-4523) Type: Casting Length: 6' Med Heavy Blank: Shikari Grip: EVA Split Foam ReelSeat: Split style Guides: H-Ring (9) Color: Black NO Logo or Markings Delivered: 3 weeks Cost: $150 The G-Blanks is a nice rod for $150. Larry Mitchell was a pleasure to deal with and provided me good pre-sales information and everything I specifed in the order. Most of my rods are either Steez or G.Loomis GLX and I will NOT try to compare the G-Blanks rod to my expensive rods. I received exactly what I expected and that is a good quality rod that I think most people would enjoy fishing. The weight, power and action is very reasonable compared to rods in the same class and price range. I really like the look and style of the rod and its very comfortable in my hand. The split reel seat is different but seems to hold the reel secure and firm. It is a medium heavy rod but has good flexibility and power but is still more on the stiff side so I primarily use it for frogs. The quality of workmanship is very good and I expect it to last a long time. If youre looking for a custom in the $150 price range then I would recommend G-Blanks.
  22. sweet daddy has lost his mind, a mojo rod isn't even in the same universe as a steez. Has he ever seen or touched a steez?
  23. Got a bunch of their stores near me.
  24. Sorry man, but the Yo Zuri and P Line are far from 2 of the most popular lines in use. Regular nylon monos in all of their varieties are much more popular. Trilene XT, XL, Big Game, Stren. Power Pro, Sufix, Fireline, and Spiderwire braids are also probably more popular than these. Yo Zuri isn't even widely sold in retail stores. I'm not saying that the lines are bad (haven't used them), but they are most certainly not the most popular lines in use. I was referring to lines in use by a lot of posters on this forum, I see these 2 lines referenced a lot in posts on this forum. I was not implying that they are the absolute 2 most popular lines in the fishing world. I will try to be more clear next time.
  25. I bet Ive cast my sons BPS pro qualifier a 100 times and I know hes cast it a 1000 times and we have never had a problem with that reel. The dual braking system is sweet and when its dialed in right it cast as smooth as silk. Id recommend it anyday for a beginner. If the brake pins are falling off (never had a reel do that) then its either a bad reel or the pins are not set properly. I just looked at my sons reel and if you pull the pins all the way to the end of their shafts and past the plastic catch that holds them on then they will fall off.
