  1. Actually, most "enthusiasts" have already chosen to forego the warranty. If someone ("enthusiasts") is buying high end gear at a premium price that is mass produced to actually fish with and that can be replaced via a warranty, then IMHO they do care about a warranty. If they are just buying to collect unique gear then they couldn't care less about a warranty.
  2. I'll choose the "lifetime no hassle replacement policy" over the "defective product replacement" anytime, even if it means paying a little more. I bet most "enthusiasts" would do the same.
  3. self adhesive, taped over, heat shrunk?
  4. Those are some really nice looking combos. The steez spools are full to the max. Not allowed to use house money for fishing. Wife/boss requires me to do extra work/consulting to buy toys. Natural, I tried your heat shrink trick last night. Covered both the cork grips on one of my glx's with some dark green. Turned out very well, looks great, fished with it this morning and it felt good. It looks like you only use heat shrink on the upper grip, what do you use to cover the lower? Is it some sort of tape, maybe heat shrink tape?
  5. Thats a good idea, if I cant feel the bite at least I can see it.
  6. I discovered a small lake Sat morning that is filled with muskgrass that JacobK mentioned, http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/ponds/p/ap/guide/submersed/charaspp.cfm looks like it covers the entire bottom and the water is clear. I was attending an athletic event for my sons high school and it was next to a small lake, I walked out on a pier and looked down to see dozens of small bass and hundreds of small bluegill swimming around the pier posts. I ran to the truck, grabbed a setup with a watermelon senko, first cast caught a 2# bass. I called around to day and found out its a city owned lake and was stocked for bass fishing. No boats are allow but fishing from the pier and shore is allowed. What would be the best bait and technique? I know the senko works but is there a better bait for the muskgrass environment.
  7. Ive found a nice little honey spot in a waterfall where almost everyday at least a couple of nice 3-4 #'ders are waiting. Ive caught one 4 times in the past month but Ive missed the hookset or lost one in that spot at least 20 times. They like the 5" senkos on the bottom and the dropshot rig 8" deep. I only have 4-5 feet of line off from the tip of the rod so its a very short pull to set the hook and they way they bite makes more difficult cause they gently take the bait and swim away slowly. Since Im fishing into the waterfall and water is pouring over the line I cant feel much until the line is pulled tight as they try to swim away with the bait, sometimes almost feels like its hung on a rock. During one hookset I pulled the fish completely out of the water and almost hit myself with it. Ive tried soft and hard hooksets but Im missing/loosing a lot of fish. Any suggestions.
  8. Get a Shimano Core 50 if you want a small size and light baitcast reel that feels similar to a steez but can be used for saltwater. Its also $100 less.
  9. Why would you expect a company to enable oafishness on anyone's part? More accurately, why should I have to pay more for an item to subsidize another individual's oafishness and the manufacture looks good? I think the steez is pretty "refined". oafishness = ??? :-?
  10. For $229 checkout the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Signature Series Spinning Combo http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98313_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail I have one as my only spinning combo and its great! (rarely ever use it but never know when I might need it)
  11. For the price of some of those JDM reels and rods I couldn't imagine buying with no warrranty. Theres no way I would pay over $200 for a rod without a lifetime warranty. Its way too easy to break a rod.
  12. Steez = freshwater only. Your gonna love the reel and rod but this reel is a precision machine and you will not want to take it into a harsh environment such as salt. I clean any dirt or gunk from the exposed surfaces on mine after every fishing outing and I would never take it near saltwater.
  13. Unless I get it to the surface and see it is a very big fish, I dont get upset. If I had a dollar for every fish I lost or didnt get hooked, I could by another nice combo. Like someone else said, "it fishing, not catching".
  14. can anyone post a pic or link to a pic of that monster?
  15. I was just humored on how he seemed to just lay there and instantly took the bait as when I pitched it back to him. Time between first and second strike and the hookset was no more that 3 sec.
  16. A few days ago I had a fish strike at a senko as it was passing some cover just before I lifted if from the water. The strike was aggressive so I said," here you can have it back" and flipped it right back into the water where he was and wham, he hit it again and sollowed it. I just lifted the fish straight up and out of the water. He was a nice 3 #'der. I consider catches like this to be freebies from the fish gods. This has happen to me several times and I was wondering how often this happens to anyone else?
  17. Shouldn't be tip heavy if the rod is balanced.
  18. A bass rod, especially a casting rod, should never ever come with a foregrip. Like a Steez ? 8-) Naaaaa, he was talking about my G-Blanks ;D According to USPS tracking, I'll have one of those G-Blanks on Monday! (NO Im not comparing it to any of my existing rods)
  19. If it feels good in your hand and it helps catch fish then its a great rod!
  20. A bass rod, especially a casting rod, should never ever come with a foregrip. Like a Steez ? 8-)
  21. Here we go again! That couldn't be farther from the truth for me! I have over 14 combos and i get excited the same way each time i add another. Just ordered a new one yesterday and i can't wait to get it!!! Dink, I was referring to SammyLee's note about the financial aspect and the fact that the buyer spent over $900 bucks and it wasnt a big deal to the buyer and they didnt evern care about what line to use. There are plenty of people that price doesnt matter and they dont want to actually learn how to be better fishermen. However, I do agree with SammyLee and take the time to at least pick a good line as well as listen to experienced fishermen.
  22. Maybe it wasnt the guys first high end combo. After the thrill of the first or second all the excitement is over and you're just adding another setup. What excites me more is getting high end gear at great prices. Like a Steez or GLX for less than $250.
  23. x10, aint no way I going to risk trashin my GLX's. Either send it back to Loomis for a repair or at least get geniune Loomis parts and let a pro do it. Call me weak and scared.
