  4. The shimano core 50 is an awesome reel and paired with a cumara rod its tough to beat (I owned one for a while) and at a very good price. The steez reels are best on a steez rod, it's a pair that were made to be together but that doesn't make either one the best to everyone. There is lots of great gear in the marketplace. The shimano/loomis GLX rods are probably some of the best next to gary loomis new NFC rod blanks. I own both and the NFC feels just a bit lighter and has more backbone. I haven't tried the new shimano/loomis NRX rods but thinking of testing one this spring with a steez reel of course. It doesn't matter what rod or reel you use, they all catch fish. It's more about personal preference and budget.
  5. The Steez Reels ARE worth EVERY penny. I know for sure and I own 10 of them. I know there are some equal and/or better rods (I also own GLX and an OtterRods NFC custom) but when you pair a Steez reel and a Steez rod its a combo that's hard to beat. Anyone that doubts that has NEVER fished with one. I invite any that has a doubt to attend the roadtrip outing and I will gladly loan* you a Steez combo for a day. (* security deposit required)
  6. I bet your dad would really light up if you brought home a steez combo.
  7. I bet everyone saw this one coming : You mean kinda like you recommending a rod/reel combo that you thought up between "naughty" dreams? : As for the rod, M/XF spinning rod. Nope, not thought up, just pure heaven.

  11. I use 40lb./8lb. dia. on my spinning reel and have been uisng the same spool for almost a year and have not had any issues with fraying like you describe. I also use the 70# on my heavy jig rod/reel and no problems. I love using that line, soft, smooth, strong and very quiet. -steezy

  16. I guess I am a complete idiot cause I love my expensive rods and reels.
  17. What is the best knot for attaching a leader to braid ?
  18. My rods & reels are insured by a separate "sports equipment" ryder on my homeowners policy. It cost me $100/yr to insure $10,000 worth of rods and reels with a $50 deductible. VERY cost effective. I provided my agent with a very detailed list of gear and lots of photos and receipts and that helped keep the cost and deductible low. In Texas, homeowners insurance is very expensive, $2000/yr to cover a $350K house with a $3500 deductible (I will never have a claim unless it burns or blows down). My gear would be covered by my homeowners policy without the additional ryder but the $3500 deductible would apply so basically any loss of less than 4 combos would not be covered.
  19. Ugly X10. X2 I think it's ugly.
  20. Daiwa Samurai Braid 30# rocks on 2500 size spinning reels.
