What about the MBR842C/ Core 50MG you sold? I'll stick with the 844 as my recommendation for all-around, but my "favorite" combo has become the 842/Core. 8-) Ive still got an MBR842C & MBR843C, the 842 is sweet but the 843 can be used for more baits and techniques, both with a steez reel of course. Im gonna make you fish with one of them this year on the roadtrip and you're gonna like it!

GLoomis MBR 843 GLX is tough to beat and can be used for almost anything.

Loomis 843 GLX, caught about 40 over 2 days on a t-riged rage crawl on the roadtrip last year. Its 1 of 2 GLX rods I own and love them both.

I disagree with your opinion. My Stella is worth every penny. If I had the disposable income to replace all of my spinning reels with Stellas I'd do it in a heartbeat. In terms of the ugly green reel in the original post...man that thing is hideous! Gotta agree with Hooligan on that, the stella is a fine peice of gear and so are my steez spinning reels. Worth every cent and NOTHING else is as smooth. STEEZ or bust ! -steezy

Steez uses Magforce V, not Magforce Z. The Steez reels use both Mag V and Mag Z depending on the model.

jeb2, I don't know what to tell you. I will agree on the wind issue, the Steez reels do not like casting into the wind, of course most baitcaster don't handle into the wind casts very well (thats another reason I have some steez spinning reel combos). Ive use Shimano Core and BPS Johnny Morris reels and they are just as bad if you don't adjust them for the conditions. IMHO, the Steez baitcaster casts a little different than other baitcasters and it takes a bit of casting to get it setup for your style of casting. When I forst started using the Steez I switched from a BPS Johnny Morris and had some pretty bad birds nests on the Steez until I get it setup properly. I either had it setup to loose and it with create a mess or so tight it wouldn't cast 20 yards. Now I keep the brakes set to 2 or 3 most of the time and it casts like a dream. It also use a bit more spool tension on the steez than other reels. My daiwa Pluton is the sweetest casting reel in all conditions that I have ever found. It takes a complete idiot or someone without a thumb to get a nest on that reel. The Steez baitcaster takes a bit more effort to setup but its worth it. The drag is the reels weakest point, I dont know why daiwa can't design that reel with at least 10-12 lbs of drag instead of that wimpy 8 lbs. I set my drag pretty snug when Im fishing and always try to remember to loosen it a the end of the day. If you tighten the drag down it will hold. The biggest bass I have caught is 6 lbs so I just cross my fingers that when I hook that double digit bass it can crank it in. Don't give up and keep working with the Steez reel until you get it dialed in for you. I hope you eventually enjoy it !

Not wanting to start a rod war but I've fished with the most expensive shimano rod (cumulus) and IMHO the gloomis GLX still blows away the shimano cumulus. The cumulus is a very nice looking and stylish rod but the GLX eats its lunch. I cant speak on the avids and I love my Steez rods but the GLX is hard to beat. Carrington, you do realize that shimano and loomis are the same company so if your buying shimano then you are still supporting loomis.

Remember guys its a mass produced rod. If you want perfection then you better go high end custom and use someone like Matt Davis at Otterods. That $500 rod will cost you $600 but it will be perfect. -steezy

Should have bought a Steez, (just kidding). That sucks ! I feel for you and I don't blame you for being very upset but don't let that deter you from buying nice gear. I've had at least 2 issues with expensive rods and reels but luckly they were taken care of very quickly.

Nothing will fit as well or be as light as a steez reel on a steez rod but you will get the 2nd best fit with other daiwa reel models. The zillion is a good choice. I have a daiwa pluton on a steez xtra heavy rod for large swimbaits and it fits the rod very well.

Micro Guides are great ! I selected them on a Otterods custome using an NFC HM blank. Mine are attached using a spiral wrap technique and they are awesome. I wish all mfg's would switch to micro guides for casting rods.

Its hard to beat the BPS Pro Qualifier as a great reel with Dual Brakes.
