I consider a quality bass anything over about 3 lbs or so. A dink would be a fish in the 14" or less category (roughly).

I'm a big fan of both reels. I have Curado I's and Tatula R's, the R's aren't much different than the regular ones. I also don't have any issues at all palming the Tatula. I know I'm mostly alone on this but I like the Curado I better than the E, and I really like the E. It palms better for me and feels more connected than the E series.

I tried a few years ago. I've been casting right handed baitcasters since I was 10 years old. That was too much muscle memory for me to overcome. Left handed reels balance different and finding comfortable, natural hand placement after the cast was difficult. I can switch hands faster than I can get settled in with a lefty reel. After some trial and error I sold the lefty baitcaster. I'm sure I could have done it if I had to but it wasn't worth the learning curve for me.

This is a really simple thing but make sure your hooks are sharp. Those big swimbait hooks need to be really sharp to penetrate. If you aren't getting a real stout hookset combined with a hook that isn't very sharp, that could be your problem.

I generally only peg if I'm pitching into heavy cover. I haven't noticed any difference in the amount of bites I get one way or the other though.

Digging bottom is where I want my crankbait. I always want it hitting something, even if it's only the bottom of the lake.

Those wakebaits are great. I have quite a few. They were discontinued several years ago but are still floating around on the bay.

I use the Rio Rico size more than the smaller one. It's a lot easier to cast with casting gear and it walks really well. I do use the smaller size too but not nearly as much.

Knot tying is a mandatory skill if you're going to fish. Like Mccallister said, the improved clinch and palomar are simple knots to tie. Get some line and practice until you have it down. Using a cheap snap swivel and never re-tying is going to cost you a fish and a lure. Might as well learn to do it right.

Why are you using a swivel with crankbaits? Get all that crap off of there, make sure your hooks aren't tangled, your lips aren't cracked, your line tie is straight and reel the baits slowly. If they still don't work, the baits are probably bad.

I've been throwing them on my 7'6" HF C-Rig rod. I just got a Dobyns 805 RM that I'm going to try them on but I haven't yet. I think they're too heavy for most cranking rods.

Check out the Kicker Fish Hightail Holeshot Shaky worm. They have holes in the tail that trap air and make them float. Really good baits.

I've never thrown one but I know it's a high quality bait. It's also big and fairly heavy. I think they make a smaller version too.

The 7'6" MH M Carbonlite should be a good deep cranking rod. I would also look at the BPS Crankin' Sticks, the entire line is meant for crankbaits.

I'm self taught too, with the help of the internet that is. It's really a pretty simple process, it just takes a lot of practice to master. Read all you can on the rod builder sites and watch videos on youtube. You should figure it out pretty quick.
