  1. the equipment does not make you a better fisherman. a 50,000 bass boat and 10k in tackle is worthless if you don't know how to catch fish.
  2. i'd say around 2
  3. I hope you're gonna stock up on these new ones, because I have a feeling they're gonna go!!
  4. Is there anything besides the scent that sets these apart from the other similar baits? They look good, but what makes these better then say a senko, or a ***. (it's a legit question, not saying these are not better)
  5. Video came out great, what do you use to edit? I love spinnerbaits, I throw one every time I go out. My favorite thing about them is that you can cover so much water in a short amount of time, and they just produce. I do however have a problem with weeds, if I don't keep the spinnerbait just below the surface in weedy areas it always comes back with a big clump. I always see people saying how weedless they are, the ones I have are not though lol. Another plus about spinnerbaits is there's absolutely no mistaking a hit. Feels like getting caught on a log lol
  6. so when do these go on sale?
  7. pickup a cheap scale. problem solved. these posts remind me of the car forums where the guy says "I have a new exhaust, what should i run in the 1/4" lol. I got my scale for less than 10 dollars, and it's accurate enough.
  8. considering the state record for a lm is under 11, i'll most likely not get too many double digits here lol. 11 would be a new state record. sm is a lil over 7. biggest sm i've caught was 2-3. biggest lm under 5.
  9. Amen. Did you happen to see if that boy caught anything with what you gave him? not sure, I set him up and left in the boat. Still made me feel good though, and my girlfriend seemed proud even though she didn't say much about it.
  10. well, start with the basics. are you sure there's fish in the river? senkos are pretty hard to fish wrong, if there's fish around they'll take it.
  11. When you see someone at the lake, and they ask you what's working, go ahead and give them a few baits. Help the people out. Keep this man's kindness going at the lake. That's the best thing that you can do in this situation. Make other people feel the way this man made you feel when for no reason other than to be nice the old man dug into his bag and gave you what was working. Especially the young fishermen. I saw a 6 or 7 year old kid at the lake sunday as I was getting ready to go out in the boat. He was very excited to be out fishing off the dock, but had some rediculous bait that would never work. So I called him over, took the bait off, gave him a stick bait and hook, and set it up for him. Cost me about 20 cents, but d**n, did it make that kids day. Give someone advice, that's free. But it goes a long way. The old man will look down at you and be proud that your carrying on his tradition of being nice when so many people aren't. you've talked to this man once, maybe twice in your life, and it affected you enough to make a post about it. Try to be that way in other people's life as well.
  12. You could wacky rig pretty much any plastic worm, I don't wacky rig anything with a tail though. For stick baits I prefer either a senko, or salty stick bait. I find that they fall a little faster than the others. I also find that senkos tear the easiest wacky, and i've thrown a fair amount right off the hook while casting after catching a fish or 2. Dingers are more durable, but fall slower.

I picked up a jacket and pants at wallmart for about 20 dollars. "Tested" them in canada, on a 5 day fishing trip where it rained almost all day every day, literally. Kept bone dry. I've had them about a year now, and they're great.
  14. Get caught with fish and no licence, sometimes it gets crazy. last year on a canada fishing trip, they lodge sent us to the outpost with only catch & release licenses, and we wanted to keep the fish. Not being able to read french, we just took the guys word that they were legit. Game warden came out, wanted to fine us $750 dollars for 3 walleye in the boat. He called the lodge, they told them it was a mistake, and they flew the proper licenses out. I would never even consider not spending the 30 dollars for a license after that.
  15. If you have a license, then it's not an issue and your world won't be crushed. There's no reason to not have one.
  16. So you don't use any slang, ever, and always use propper grammar? \ I agree with bigtimefish, I try to bring a snack or sandwich on the boat, take 2 bites, and put it down. And I never drink water, even though I have it. Always come back tired, thirsty, and hungry to the point where I get home and don't feel like doing anything. Get too hung up in what I'm doing.
  17. I use a bait until it starts to get beat up, then I switch. If I am switching baits, and the one i'm using is still in good shape, it goes back in the tackle box.
  18. I don't really have a set time I go. I usually go when I wake up and have some coffee lol. Sometimes morning, sometimes all day, sometimes night. Last week I woke up at 4:30 am and couldn't sleep, so went out for a few hours. really just depends when I feel like going, and what my schedule is. I would never not go at a certain time though. If i don't have anything to do, and want to go out, I will.
  19. Big depends on where you fish, and how long you've been fishing. I've gone out here and there pretty much my whole life, but didn't really get into bass fishing untill last year. This is my first full season out on the water. Anything over 3 pounds, for me at least, i consider to be pretty big. As I get more familiar with the lake, and my skills improve, what I consider to be big will change... i hope at least! But If you catch 5 pound bass regularly, and then get an 8 pounder, that would be big. If you catch 1 pounders, a 4 pounder is pretty big. So I think it's all relative to where you fish, how much time you spend on the water, and how much you want to actually learn about fishing.
  20. just keep in mind this time of year there's lots of people at the beaches in highland lakes, and if you don't have a car sticker they'll block you in and you'll be waiting for hours to get out. People get upset when they see someone without a parking sticker, especially when there's no spots left. aeroflex is good, but it's very deep. great trout lake. not sure where silver lake is, do you know anything more than it's just off 23? I hear swartswood lake is pretty good too, but I haven't fished it yet.
  21. I live in Highland Lakes and have been going to all the lakes in the area. I'm probably 5 minutes from you lol. But the fish are in deeper water. You can still catch small ones near the shore, but the bigger ones have been out in deep water pretty much at the bottom of the lake. Got 2 nice ones deep today, had a ton of hits but couldn't hook them up. The babies tend to keep more near shore. The problem I have with live bait is that like you said, it attracts lots of fish, and most of what I have ever caught with live bait is small. Either sunny, perch, or tiny bass. Using plastics or spinnerbaits will really cut down on the tiny fish.
  22. nice fish! agreed with above, scales are cheap. I picked one up for about 8 dollars at a local store, tested it with some weights in my garage and it's pretty d**n close.
  23. If you don't get excited about catching a fish, then there's no reason to be fishing, or on a bass enthusiast forum for that matter. I'm happy to catch anything, and enjoy every fish that bites. I may not go home and brag about all of them, but I still find it to be fun.
  24. Like said, you shouldn't just be yanking the fish out of the water. If the fish is coming out of the water, use your hands, or if you can't reach a net.
  25. Central NJ Hillsborough area. Where farms still exist welcome! We have farms up in northwest nj too!
