Securing Rods Against Theft?
What about making a storage type of rod locker thing approx 5-6" high & the width of your truck bed? Coupled with a topper would be better yet. You could make it out of plywood with a door on the gate end. Or it could be one that the bed of the rod locker has 2 horizontal doors that open upward. Would kind of remind you of a flat storm shelter. You could use metal strap or 1/8-3/16" stock steel that you find at any hardware store to attach it to the bed of the truck. This way you could keep it in your truck and it would function as sort of a psuedo shelf. Kind of out there idea but it's a thought. FFI

BTW, I added some pictures to my original post. I probably made them too small. If I get time I will go back and re-size them

F4 Is In The House!
Just wanted to pop in and drop a note that I live in Washington IL. You might have seen all of the devastation on the news. What you saw on the news I can see out my front door. I have some damage to my roof (mainly shingles and a couple of punctures), outer pane only of a couple of windows and sliding glass door, patio furniture missing etc. One of our cars was totaled in the process. Most importantly my family was not hurt. Fortunately despite a condensed area and having an F4 tornado only one person lost their life. That is one too many but better than the 100's that you would have figured it would be when you look at the pictures and that it was an F4. We are very fortunate as the house across the street lost its entire roof. 3 houses West or North either way and the houses have been completely reduced to rubble!!!! (what you see on the news). I would post pic's but my time is very limited. All the pictures that I have are over 2m ea I could go on and on but I've got a lot to do yet.

What Did You Miss?
I slept to within about 50 yards of the entrance to a bridge over a river on an interstate when I was about 17. Luckily the rough shoulder woke me up. Later after I was married and the kids were little I used to get sleepy and have to pull over a lot especially 1st thing in the morning. I used to work my regular 40-50hr / week job then umpire 3 nights a week from 5 till 10 or 11pm and on the weekends for 6 to 12hrs often both Sat and Sun. No problems now days.

Products That Exceed Your Expectations
Fishing Pflueger Preisdent spinning reel. For the $39 I paid it still rocks after 5-6years with minimal maintenance. Storm 3" plain swim baits. These used to be .50c ea ($3 for 6 baits). Getting harder to find. I've caught 100's of fish on this bait. Yozuri ultrasoft line. Works great @ a great price. (Not a fan of non Ultra) Shimano Compre bait casting rod. These would be good at list price. The fact that I got mine for something like $39? is icing on the cake. Even though my rod is MH this rod is very light and handles big fish well. Berkeley Gulp turtle back worms. Pricey and dont hold up well at allbut these really work! Berkeley 4" Chigger craws, close 2nd to the Gulp. Berkeley has the scents figured out. Non fishing Channel lock wire cutters. I have had these since the mid 70's. I was a motor winder for 10yrs so I used them everyday. Craftsman tools. For the $'s the high priced Snapoff's (pun intended, (combination of Snap-on & ripoff)) are over priced. Snap on snap ring pliers- worth the money, forget those tip changer poc's My K-Mart blue light special 1/4 - 1-1/4" combo wrench set (lol). I bought them in the mid 70's in my teens and despite being an electric motor winder / mechanic for 10+ yrs I have never broke or damaged one even hitting them with bp hammers. I still have them & use them.

That Stupid Auction Site
Pardon the obvious pun but " ding ding ding we have a winner"! I tried. The right way at 1st and it became pointless. I switched to the last second bidding & +.0x and had much more success. I also got some great deals as a result. I figure bidding early on just sets the tone for costing you more to buy it. To me it is almost like showing your hand in poker right when you receive your cards. You also make it easier for them to have their "buddy" bidders. I'd have my bid all ready, wait to the last second until only enough time for the bid to go through. I'd edit if needed ( including lowering) and enter. I have not bid in quite some time so things may very well have changed since then.

Finally Cleaned & Lubed My 1St Reel
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsHoff, Thanks for the reply. You had me thinking so I double checked & it is a casting and is a Supreme. I bought it a few years ago & got a good buy as I believe that series was being discontinued. I didn't know how to take the handle off to tear apart that side of the reel. I did everything that I could from the cent brake side of the reel which goes a long way. I have the original box & schematic but that only helps so much. No big deal it has to be quite a bit better than it was as I got a bunch of dirt out of it.

Finally Cleaned & Lubed My 1St Reel
I finally got up the nerve to disassemble clean & lube my 1st reel. Woohoo! It was a Pflueger Supreme casting reel. I couldn't get the gearbox under the handle apart. I was able to get a dab of lube on the main gears though. It took a while & took some patience but I got it. Now I just need some decent weather to see if it pays off.

Best Rod Under $100
In spinning I own: St. Croix Avid ($100) Shimano Clarus ($79) & Fenwick HMG ($50) In casting I own: Shimano Convergence(normal retail), Shimano Compre ($49) & Fenwick HMG ($65$). I like my Avid but don't see it being all that special, especially for the price. Ditto for my Clarus it is nice but I honestly like my Compre better especially for the $ diff. My favorite by far is my Compre with my HMG's a close second. I put the prices that I remember buying these at. All were purchased brand new. Knowing what I know now I would have bought as many of the Compre's & Fenwicks as I could. If I find anything close to those prices again I will replace what I have.

What Do You Do For A Living?
First 11years I was 1st an electric motor winder then a mechanic, winder, dynamic balancer & also repaired hoists. While doing the motor gig I earned an associates degree in Industrial Electronics Instrumentation. The next 8 yrs I was a component level bench electronics technician repairing vfd's & circuit boards out of vfd's. I also did sporadic service calls all over the country. The past 12yrs I have been in the industrial electronics industry as an industrial electronics ( sort of like factory robots but not quite ) automation specialist doing technical sales, tech support, some design etc. I also spent almost 25years as a second job as a baseball & softball umpire doing everything from Little League to high school, some college & a grand total of 1 semi pro game! Thermostat Setting
Depends a little on the outdoor temp but in general... In winter = 71 While awake steps down to 65 then 62 while sleeping. In summer = 72 or 73 while awake. Steps down to 70 or 71 while sleeping. Funny that you mention this as I posted the same thing several years ago. Glenn mentioned at the time that never in his wildest dreams when he made BassResource.com did he think that this subject would ever come up. I also came up with the toilet paper over or under thread!

Bank Fishing In The Dark?
I fish some smaller lakes so I go at night to avoid the crowd. I generally get there about 30 mins to 1hr b4 dark, maybe 7:30 or 8 pm. As soon as it gets dark most everyone else leaves so except for a couple of meat hunter catfish fisherman I have the lake to myself as I only fish for bass. By in large I catch 10x the amount of fish from dusk to 10pm than all of the daylight hours combined. This works at one lake more so than the others which confuses me a little.

Bank Fishing In The Dark?
