Update on Basshunter 69
I have not heard a lot about this saga just heard about it lately. You know I wondered about him. He was supposedly down and out but yet he was going to start fishing tournsments ( ? ) I think the mods did their best to check him out and I thought they were comfortable for a while. I'm glad I didn't bite onn the whole poor guy deal. I pm'd a little with him as he was from near a relative of mine. I almost had my relative drop by and see for himself. Supposedly he is from near the BR road trip. Might be interesting to have a bunch of angry fisherman show up at his door. This world just has all kinds doesn't it. I hate crooks.

Interesting places you've been
This isn't meant to be a brag location on where you've been. I mean it to be any place you've been that you find interesting. It can be far away or in your backyard, simple or elaborate. I tend to love the architecture of buildings and such but don't let that dicate your thoughts. Some places that come to mind...... 1. Montreal Canada. The buildings are awesome and very old. I didn't get a lot of time to see but it was cool. Plus the culture and even just the different signs and driving. 2. Lewisburg PA. The downtown area was incredibly interesting. Not a place you'd go out of the way for but still interesting. The houses are very old and very well kept. Old victorians with beautiful huge brass door handles. The street lights around town are very ornate and low level light. People who've been to Boston ( I haven't been) wouldn't be quite so impressed probably. The college nearby is Bucknell university which is very old and neat looking. Also had some really different shopping deal that tour buses flocked to. It had all kinds of scottish print throws and elaborate x-mas ornaments & unique custom belt buckles. 3. The town square near my house. Has some antique shops but the biggie is the old fashioned candy store. I take the kids mainly it has the orig old wooden floors and the individual glass containers with scoops. It's like being a kid all over again. 4. Niagra falls. Never thought I'd like it but it truely was a thing of wonder and beauty. 5. Mount Rushmore plus Yellowstone park. 6. Agusta Ga airport and the the Holiday inn there. The airport you land at is small but full of flowers just very down home and peaceful. The holiday inn also has lots of plants and flowers. Just very relaxing sitting around the pool.

Illinois River Asian Carp Fiasco
If it is the same guys I saw them do it on the local news. These guys are about 10 mins from where I live. They've had inquiries from all over the country wanting to come be "guided". Rumor was that Cindy Garrison was going to film an episode shooting carp. I don't know if she ever made it or not. I thought about going and watching / drooling when she came to town. She seems to be off of the air now so? By the way she should have been on my "hottest babe thread". She is obnoxious as heck but hot. Sorry Avid but she's even hotter than Angelina.

Mother nature is PISSED!!!
Weird day today. The temp was around 60deg's near lunch time. By 5pm it was 9 deg's with 30-45 mph winds. I was last out at work and I had to shut the gate. The wind was blowing so hard it was all I could do to hold it to put the lock on. The temp and wind were flat out dangerous. If you had a wreck on the way home and broke a window you'd be screwed in short order. Right now it is around 7-9 deg's with winds of 30-60 or 70 mph. Something like -20 to - 40 wind chill. Tonight I think will be -9 and probably wind still around till it settles down in temp.

A box showed up on my doorstep today...
Hey post a review when you get that far. As having a lot of experience with several brands you should make for a pretty good read. I forget my tittle ( something originating with from slip bobber blunders lol )but... welcome to Mookville

Whats your worst part of bass fishing
Close one between winter, summer mammoth heat and the wind but I hate the wind the most. I know drift socks exist but seems like a big pain. I hate the wind, it takes the fun out of fishing by constantly battling the trolling motor etc. When you need to tie on a new lure who knows where you'll end up or you have to anchor. Winter is a close second.

Illinois River Asian Carp Fiasco
Just wanted to bring this to light for those who weren't aware of this. Someone was raising Asian Carp for re-sale for smoked food a few years ago near the Illinois river. The river flooded and some of the Asian Carp AKA ( flying Carp )ended up in the river. Fast forward a few years and the carp have made a huge disaster. They grow to as much as 20lbs(?) and won't bite most baits. These fish can jump many feet in the air. Most of the time a noise sets them off IE a jetski, certain boats etc. many a jetskier and rec boaters have had broken noses teeth broken etc. When the fish happens to land in a boat they have a very thin skin and start to bleed in the boat almost immediately ( yuck what a mess). Boat and jet ski sales are down a bunchas a result. In the wild like this these fish are huge breeders. They are killing the food forage balance and many types of bass, walleye and native fish of all types in general are dwindling. The monetary effects on water recreation and fishing is becoming a huge problem. An electric barrier was put up to try to keep them out of the great lakes. Problems with the barrier and fighting over who pays for the electricity of it is an ongoing effort. At times the barrier is not working as a result. Just an fyi.

Cheating.....AGAIN
- A Special Thank You for ReelMech
That pretty much somes it up right there Congrats David FFI AKA - Matt Crum- Closed face baitcaster???
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and Knots- US Reels
No experience with one but Cabelas '07 catalog has them listed not sure about '08. I did see a post or 2 some time ago about these I think and they were somewhat unimpressed. I'm not sure if those were Ardent baitcasters or US Reel spinning though to be honest. I know whatever it was is American made. Try Cabelas and BPS online or go to them if close and check them out. If you decide to buy one come back and post a review so we can all learn.- quantum reels
I own a Quantum Mantra and have had it several years. It was my first reel after "returning" to fishing and was my first ever BC. I really liked it. I paid $80 for it and always liked it. I should fish it more. I had zero problems with it and should really fish it more often. I posted on the boards once who had one and what did they think of the value / comparison. I didn't get much feed back but one other person posted they really liked theirs. All brands have their low, mid and high end stuff. Like they said try them at the stores buy something and go fishing. FFI AKA - Matt crum- Closed face baitcaster???
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsThanks for the pic and thanks for the comment on the sig quote I saw the quote somewhere and stole it so feel free to use it if you like it. I had posted that I had seen it somewhere and liked it but that I couldn't remember it completely. I thought I saw it in a magazine but wasn't sure. Someone sent it to me so I used it. i see someone else had it recently so maybe that is who I stole it from! LOL Confused now? I am LOL- Avid's Clique
Darn, I've been away awhile and I don't want to step on anyone's toes this quickly but I would agree with Jasone that there is a clique, not that this is such a bad thing. Anytime you have a group of people this large you will have subsets of people who hit it off and become a sub-group within the larger group. I didn't see Jasone's post but is it possible that he received an "undue insult" to one of his posts either by a number of people making jokes in answer to his question or by hijacking the thread? Warm Regards, The Devil's Advocate Semile that smiley is hilarious!- Uncle Sam Soda Tax?
No problem at all Stokes, no offense taken. I enjoyed the different points of view although I admit I do struggle with it when not everyone agrees with me LOL. d**n it I like to be right all of the time! LOL Your last reply was a nice touch very well put very classy. In print in general can be misleading as hearing how someone sounds can be way different than what they are saying in print. I personaly have made that mistake on more than one occasion. I'm usualy leading the charge on the "anti blame someone else" brigade. Again no offense taken of any kind and no implied sarcasam taken. I enjoyed the conversation.- Closed face baitcaster???
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI can and do know how to throw a baitcaster. Backlashes are to some degree a fact of life with them. I've watched countless pro's Vandam, Swindle, Houston and others have problems. I think, what is it that they are doing while trying to talk to me.? Then it dawns on me that they are picking out a backlash. With the above mindset we'd still be fishing with cane poles as why learn a BC when cane poles work just fine? Sometimes we have to think out of the box maybe there is a whole different way to do things. ai don't think so in this case but an open mind doesn't hurt. I was just courious on the general feasibility of this type of reel. Why ever pick out a backlash if their is a better way? I have had zebco 33's back in the day and If I recall right I had them knot up on the inside quite a few times. Point being we all backlash them there is no one here who can say they don't, I'm pretty good using one but I get some good one's here and there. It's the challenge of it all to me. What fun would fishing be if there where no challenges to overcome or deal with. I like the fact that I'm not perfect and neither is my equip and it's nice to know the pros aren't either but thats the great thing about it you always have reason to get better because you will never acheive perfect but you can always keep trying and thats the reason I keep a closed mind about stuff that take the challenge away. I'm not trying to be sarcastic I hope it dosen't come across that way No offense taken KYbass Your last post clears things up quite a bit nice touch. All is good- Closed face baitcaster???
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI think that is it. Doesn't that look exactly like a BC though? It doesn't resemble a spincast to me, IE the spool appears to run horiz like a BC not vert like a spinning and a spincaster do.- Uncle Sam Soda Tax?
Some excellent points Stokes. Maybe no tax at all then. Maybe the smaller oz portions only attempt. Or take some existing food tax revenue and shift it to supplementing the profit of water in resturaunts. Doing anything is better than nothing i would think. I agree we've got ourselves to blame mostly but are their creative ways to fix it? Can we help lieelt kids in a small way before they get out of hand? Maybe they see the parents drinking water and that becomes second nature rather than soda.- Closed face baitcaster???

fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI don't think so. It had the exact profile of a LP baitcaster it just wasn't open by where the line guide is. I'm virt certain it wasn't a spinning. And Jake - nope looked nothing like a Zebco or a Johnson or anywhere close to those. Maybe I'll take the camera phone one of these days and take a pic or find a link.- Uncle Sam Soda Tax?
Read my post closer I'm not blaming anyone nor am I saying tell them what to do. I'm merely saying that obesity is at epidemic levels. The soda idea is creative thinking in my book. My ideas were just to offer smart alternatives to encourage people to make healthier choices. I don't necessarily agree with the mayors approach. Although well intended I think often those ideas are a a sneaky approach to put money in the cities coffers. I was just trying to offer some clever ideas on how to HELp solve a problem. I have to give the mayor some credit he sees a problem and is trying to do something fairly reasonable about it. That is what leaders do they LEAD. Not always popular but some times leading means a new approach. If losing weight were all that simple everyone would have already done it because no one wants to be overweight. Much the same as all those people who try to quit smoking would but it is not that simple. Can we all do better and make smarter decisions? yes but you cannot snap your fingers and solve this complex.- I'm baaaaack . . . partially anyway.
Welcome back senile. Hoping and praying for the best for you and the wife's situation.- RIP Heath Ledger...
All the family issues aside. Without trying to be calous (SP) why does this guy warrant any more ink than you neighbor? I'm sorry he's dead and sorry for all of the people that it affects. I just don't understand why it is such a new worthy deal for basicaly a no name actor.- Peta all over this one???
Forget the strap deal the bulls and horses immediately went nuts. He had a taser of some sort almost for certain. He has been invesigated in Pennsylvania for the same thing recently. The whole thing is no sweat off my back but I just thought PETA would have a reason to go nuts. PS. The whisper in the ear thing is papa bull riding mama bull and papa saying " your sister is better in the sack" lol - A Special Thank You for ReelMech
