  1. The drag on my Curado E7 seems to have lost quite a bit of pressure. I can pretty easily strip line from the reel with the drag locked down as tight as physically possible. My question is - can Carbontex drag washers be purchased and put into an E7 and do you think this may solve the problem? Also, if so, where can I get them? Thanks in advance.
  2. I have done a bunch of research on these two reels, but I'm looking for opinions on which you would choose. Intended applications would be for slow rolling big spinnerbaits and small swimbaits. The reel might see some deep cranking at some point, but that would not be it's main function.
  3. I was just throwing a t-rigged trick worm with a 1/8oz weight on my 853 with 3 brakes engaged without any trouble at all, and was able to cast quite a distance as well. I realize that a trick worm weighs a decent amount for its size, but this is still a reletively light offering for this rod. I picked up the 852 mainly for 1/16 - 3/16oz shakey heads in open water, weightless plastics, and maybe drop shotting on the rear occasion I choose to do so. Aside from maybe weightless plastics, I feel the Core 51 should work well for these tasks. There's only one way to find out and I plan to try the Core on my 852 soon. I do have a 2010 Premier and I love that reel as well. I am currently using it on my Dobyns 733C for moving baits, mostly spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, and topwaters. I agree that the Premier may make a better all around reel, but I am confident that the Core will work for what I plan to use it for. It would be nice if the Premier was offered in a shallow spool version maybe rated at ~90-100 yards of 12lb line.
  4. I figure the 2 power BCR will be good for 1/8 - 3/16oz spinnerbaits and buzzbaits when it comes time to down size as well.
  5. I'm keeping that reel on my BCR853 for bottom contact baits up to 1/2oz and plan to pick up another to pair with my BCR852 and some 10lb flourocarbon for the really light stuff 1/4oz and under.
  6. Got a chance to use my new Core 51mg7 for the first time today. Let's just say that I'm getting another one. Paired with my BCR853 and 30lb fireline braid I was easily able to throw a trick worm on a 3/16 shakey head a long long way, and needless to say this is not the ideal rod for this task. It was also able to land a nice 3lb 2oz flawlessly. I'm very excited about this reel for lighter/finesse applications.
  7. I'm not going to lie, I still want one of these bad boys... :
  8. I would have to agree with regards to the weight. Doesn't seem to make sense at all. Why would they essentially remake the Zillion 50th with a few styling upgrades and try to sell it for $400, unless there are some performance upgrades we are not aware of yet.
  9. That is one sweet reel How do they have these in stock already??
  10. I have actually asked David this exact question already and was looking for the opinion of others in addition to his. I am set on a 5 power as I could not see myself needing anymore power than this. Thanks for your input, I'm pretty set on the 735 at this point.
  11. I'm looking for a comparison of these two rods, or any input from those who have used them. My intended applications will be frogs (hollow body and buzz frogs) and heavier jigs and t-rigs in moderate cover. The rod will be used for casting and pitching, not flipping. Ideally, I would get the 735 for frogs and the 765 for pitching jigs and t-rigs into cover, but I can only have one so I'm looking for the best compromise. Thanks in advance for any input.
  12. If you purchase the Dobyns 734 and don't like it, I will gladly take it off your hands for you. Like I said, I own the 733 and it is my lighter spinnerbait, lipless crank, and topwater rod. The 734 should make an excellent rod for throwing spinnerbaits and small swim baits.
  13. x2 Or you can take a look at the 733 if you tend to throw lighter spinnerbaits in the 1/4 - 1/2oz range. This is the rod I own and use for this application and it works amazingly well if you prefer longer rods.
  14. 2010 Revo Premier mounted on a Dobyns Champion 733C I usually only throw 3/8 - 5/8 oz lipless cranks
  15. With the introduction of the new Revo Premier, STX, and SX, do you guys think we will see an upgraded Revo Winch with the dual braking system sometime soon, maybe at ICAST? Has anyone heard anything?
  16. Jigs, frogs, and small swimbaits can all be thrown on the same rod, however, I would not throw deep cranks on this rod. I would recommend a a heavy or extra heavy power rod in the 7'3"-7'6" range, something like what was mentioned in the prior post.
  17. Thanks for the input guys. The plan would be to pair the rod with a Core50/Aldebaran and 12lb Seaguar Abrazx. I'm glad to hear that this rod will work well for my intended purposes and can serve as a drop shot rod as well on the rare occasion that I choose to do so.
  18. I was considering picking up one of these rods for shakey heads and weightless plastics and was wondering if it could also be used effectively as a drop shot rod as well. I have never attempted drop shotting before and have no experience with this rod (only the BCR853 GLX). What are your thoughts?
  19. First, I will admit that I do not have experience with the particular rods you have mentioned. Also, I am having a difficult time understanding what you actually plan to use the rod for. However, given the rods that you have mentioned and the information you have offered, I would opt for the Dobyns 702. Given the lighter power, it will be able to handle some techniques that would usually call for a more moderate action, like light crankbaits, and still have the backbone for setting the hook with lighter contact baits. Avids and Crucials are excellent rods at their price points from what I have heard/read, but the Dobyns will simply offer more.
  20. Bronzefly, I saw your post on another forum regarding throwing 1/16 and 1/8oz shakey heads with an upgraded Core 50/Aldebaran. Do you think these reels can handle the task of throwing 1/16 - 1/8oz shakey heads in stock form, without a bearing upgrade? Lets say for example that I'm throwing them rigged with a zoom trick worm.
  21. What length rod do you guys prefer to throw shakey heads with and why? I generally prefer longer rods in the 7'-7'6" range for most techniques. I figure the longer rod will help with casting distance. Does it really make a difference in the performance or is it more personal preference? Oh and I prefer casting, but I know most or many would choose spinning for shakey heads.
  22. Same here. Size 2/0 or 1/0 depending on the size of the bait being thrown.
  23. The Citica E can be found new for ~$100. They can sometimes be found in like new condition here in the Flea Market section for ~$90 if you are willing to wait and be patient.
  24. What reel are you guys throwing your hard jerkbaits with? I'm currently using a Sol for Pointer 78's and small crankbaits. I was thinking that the new 2010 Revo Premier might make an excellent dedicated jerkbait reel.
  25. With the exception of purchasing reels from other members here, all of my reels have been purchased on Ebay. Just follow the other's advice and you should be in the clear.
