Daiwa Sol BC
Raul, The line that I had in mind was 8lb CXX. Thought I might try some CX premium too in a comparable diameter. As for the rod, how do you think a 2 power Loomis/Dobyns will pair with the Sol for these applications?

Daiwa Sol BC
Sorry - can't spell....that's "finesse"

Daiwa Sol BC
I agree that many people would like to see a higher gear ratio in finess reels. But actually the 5.8:1 ratio or ~23 IPT of the Sol would be just about perfect for my indended uses. Maybe it has to do with the limited torque in the higher gear ratios. May not be suited for the smaller finess reels where the lower gear ratio helps in fish fighting power. Don't know for sure, just a thought.

Daiwa Sol BC
If paired with the correct rod, can the Sol take the place of a spining setup, if I don't plan on throwing anything under 1/8oz - 3/16oz? I just don't like the feel of my spinning setup anymore and was considering getting the Sol and pairing it with a 2 power Loomis or Dobyns mostly for shallow cranking, light topwaters, and jerk baits. What do you guys think? Might I be better served with a different reel?

Cumara vs. Loomis GLX spinning
I have the SJR843 IMX and love it. Great all around spinning rod and should work just fine for those applications you mentioned.

G loomis Best All around rod
MBR843 IMX if you prefer 7' or the MBR783 IMX if you prefer 6'6". No need to step it up to the GLX unless you have already used one or find a good deal on one IMO.

Best Lense Color
NOVA, I was considering the silver mirror lenses as well. As you mentioned, they appear to be the best all around lense for my purposes. Now I just have to figure out which frame will fit me the best. I hope my local Cabela's carries them in stock so I can check them out. Thanks for the help guys.

Best Lense Color
What are the differences between copper and amber?

Best Lense Color
I'm looking into getting a pair of Costa's with the 580 lenses (mainly because they come highly recommended from many of the members here). My question is what is the best all around lense color for freshwater fishing? I have heard copper or silver mirror might be the best. Keep in mind that I have brown eyes that are not overly sensitive to light and I would like these glasses to help me sight fish. What do you guys think?

All Purpose Rod
I fully agree with the MBR843 IMX/GLX and also agree that it may be worth it to go with the IMX and save ~$100. Keep an eye on the flea market section of the forum, great deals on these rods often pop up. And don't be afraid to buy used rods from other members, especially those with the outstanding Loomis warranty. I picked up a used MBR843 GLX in "like new" condition for $275 in the flea market, $100 off retail for a new rod. It is a great all around fod for baits in the 1/4oz - 5/8oz range and I'm sure the IMX would be as well (I have an IMX spinning rod and love it).

Powell 704CEF vs 734CF
Brokeju, I see that you prefer heavier rods, however I don't throw frogs often and am more concerned about this rod's performance fishing spinners and jigs of the before mentioned sizes. What do you think of the Champion Extreme DX 744C for these applications? My plan is to pair this rod with a Zillion and 12lb CXX. How do the 4 power Dobyns compare to the 4 power Loomis IMX/GLX rods (such as the MBR844)?
-
Powell 704CEF vs 734CF
Oh and I would like to use this as my frog rod as well.
-
Powell 704CEF vs 734CF
Aside from the additional 3 inches on the 734, how do these rods compare? Which has more backbone/power? Will the tip on the 704 feel that much faster than the 734? I'm looking for a powerful but sensitive rod to throw larger spinnerbaits in the 1/2oz - 1oz range and jigs in the 1/2oz - 3/4oz range. Which of these rods would you pick and why? Also looking at the MBR844 IMX, would I be better served just stepping it up to the Loomis?

Zillion/Zillion Coastal/Zillion 50th Anniversary
Looks like I'm gonna have to find a lefty somewhere then...
-
Zillion/Zillion Coastal/Zillion 50th Anniversary
Thanks Bronzefly. I would be willing to deal with the red color, but I can't find a lefty version anywhere I have looked. And I havn't asked in the flea market section because I'm not really ready to make a purchase yet. Also, does the 50th have bearing supported knobs?
-
Zillion/Zillion Coastal/Zillion 50th Anniversary
I agree that the 50th anniversary sure is ugly. I think the colors of the coastal would look pretty sweet on an MBR844 IMX, and it could double as an inshore striper setup.

Zillion/Zillion Coastal/Zillion 50th Anniversary
What are the differences/advantages/disadvantages of the coastal vs the standard zillion? I realize that its supposed to stand up to saltwater better, but how? They seem identical aside from the 2 added CRBBs on the coastal (still 6 bearings total). Is this the only difference? Also, is the 50th anniversary version a big step up from the standard verion zillion? I'm looking for a powerful reel to pair with an MBR844 IMX/GLX for big blades and jigs in light/moderate cover. I have no experience with daiwa reels and would appreciate the input from anyone who has used these reels. Thanks all.

P-Line Floroclear/C-XX
I have used Floroclear in 10# and 12# and actually felt that it stretches like crazy. Had no issues with break-offs though, and actually really like the 10# for spinning aside from the stretch (good line for cranking IMO). Also, you may try downsizing the CXX. I'm currently using 8# on my E7 with no problems after a few outings. I think I may switch to 10# in the spring, but even the 8# is plenty strong if you are not fishing heavy cover. Try switching to 10# or 12# and see how you like it. Its around $8-$10 for 300 yards so its worth giving it a shot. And although I have never tried it, I have heard KVD line conditioner really helps with CXX.

Need Rod Suggestion!
I have a Loomis MBR784 IMX in like new condition (only used once for a few hours) that I can sell to you. Its a 6'6" heavy action, but Loomis overrates their rods and it is rated for 1/4 - 1 oz lures. Shoot me a PM if interested.
-
P-line CXX
By the way, all my spinnerbaits are 1/4 - 3/4 oz. Anything lighter and I will usually go to spinning gear.
-
P-line CXX
Have you noticed a significant difference in stiffness or performance between 10 and 12? The diameters are listed as being very close to one another (10# = .35mm and 12# = .37mm) What would be the benefit of choosing one over the other?
-
P-line CXX
Raul & J Franco, The 8# cxx will be going on a curado E7. I always use a backing though so I will only be using 75-100 yards of cxx at a time. I will be throwing mostly spinnerbaits and some cranks, hard jerk baits, and topwater lures. Will this line handle spinnerbaits up to 3/4 oz? What about these other applications? Thanks guys.
-
P-line CXX
Im beginning to think that 8# may be too thin/light for a BC. What do you guys think? Should I save the 8# for spinning and go to 10# or 12# for casting? I recall that the 10# felt significantly stiffer when I felt the two in the store. Will 8# be strong enough to handle baits in the 1/2 - 3/4 oz range on my casting setup?
-
P-line CXX
Anyone ever use cxx on spinning gear? I picked up some 8# cxx for my BC setup that I use for moving baits but havn't gotten a chance to fish it yet. I was thinking about getting some 6# for my spinning setup. The diameter of 6# cxx is listed as less than 6# Yo-zuri hybrid US. I was wondering how it will handle and how its breaking strength and abrasion resistance will be in this diameter.
