lure for pike in the fall
Where did you catch that thing bdiggy? Thats one large pike for CT.
-
What would you buy?
RW, Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe the SJR843S comes in GLX. Also, it is a MH rod. I know that Loomis rods are a little overrated when it comes to power, but I own the SJR843S IMX and it is certainly more powerful than ML rods from other manufacturers. Did you mean a different model in GLX?

Thanks. I did not know you could do that.

Shipping rods
Not really sure where to ask this question so I apologize ahead of time if it doesn't belong here, but how much will it cost to ship a 6'6" rod? And what is the best way to do this? I am thinking of listing a rod in the flee market but I have no idea how much shipping will cost as I have never done this before. I have the origional rod tube that the rod was sent to me in from TW so that is what I will use to send it in. I realize shipping rates may vary by region, I live in Southwest, CT if that helps. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Zoom Super Salty Fluke
Thanks again no1. Hopefully these techniques will be just as productive up here in the Northeast.

Zoom Super Salty Fluke
No1 was right, I did not do a search before asking and I was simply thanking him for the link. However, I would like to hear what you guys think of this specific bait as I am thinking of picking some up, mostly for use in smaller ponds.

St. Croix Legend Elite LEC68MXF vs Loomis BCR803 GLX
Which of these rods would be best for fishing weighted and unweighted soft plastics as well as light to medium sized jigs (primarily in the 1/4 - 1/2 oz range). Opinions from those who have had the pleasure of using both rods would be greatly appreciated, but all opinions are welcome. How do the actions and sensitivity compare between the two rods? Thanks all.

G Loomis rods........would like an introduction to them
Remember to keep an eye on the flee market here. I picked up an SJR843 IMX in great shape for $175 from another member. And right now there are a few GLX's going for $255.

Go IMX. It will save you some $$ over the GLX and will certainly be the best rod you have ever fished. I know it was for me when I made the leap. And with the Loomis warranty and expeditor service the investment is totally worth it IMO.

Looking for new spinning reel
The Stradic FI (as well as the Sustain and Stella) has different gearing from the Saros that will wrap line tighter and will prevent braid from digging in and improve casting. I have a Saros and I do use braid on it successfully. However, it will dig in each time I bring in a fish or anytime there is considerable force on the line. I suppose this will happen to a certain extent regardless though.

Looking for new spinning reel
Mono/flouro/copolymer --> Shimano Saros Braid ---> Shimano Stradic For either reel I would recommend the 2500 size for those fish species.

Baitcaster Decision
I bought 40# so that is what I will use once I get my practice in with mono for a while.

Baitcaster Decision
I plan to spool it with 12lb trilene big game, which I use as my backing line, for practice before I put the braid on.

Baitcaster Decision
Well it's official. I pulled the trigger and bought the combo tonight. Got the IMX from TW while their Labor Day sale was still goin on for $230 shipped and the Curado from a trusted seller on ebay that I have bought from before for $148 shipped. Also picked up a spool of fireline braid from TW for $16. In a week or so I will be the proud owner of a Curado 201 E7 mounted on an MBR784c IMX. Can't wait to teach myself the art of the baitcaster and get out on the water

Baitcaster Decision
The problem is that I already own an SJR843 IMX so I'm afraid I may never own anything less than IMX again :-/. The way I look at it though is a Loomis rod is a lifetime investment and well worth the money with their great warranty and expeditor service. A reel on the other hand is a different story. I don't think I could ever see myself spending $300+ on a reel with so many complicated moving parts that can fail in so many different places.

Baitcaster Decision
My spinners are mostly 1/2 and 3/8 oz but I would like the ability to throw 3/4 too. I just could not imagin throwing a 3/4 oz spinner, or any 3/4 oz bait, on the 783 after having it in my hands. On the other hand, I usually throw light plastics. Either weightless or texas rigged with a 1/8-1/4 oz bullet weight because I don't fish very deep waters and I like the slower fall rate. I realize that I am asking a lot of just one rod. Guess I will just have to get the BCR803 GLX for my plastics fishing :

I'm sure I will add to the collection over the next two years, but the plan is that I wont need to upgrade

Baitcaster Decision
After all of my questions recently about what to get for my first baitcaster, I think I have decided on the Curado 201 E7. It will be used as an all around reel but mainly for soft plastics, spinners, and jigs. Also, I would like to pair this reel with a Loomis MBR784 IMX as the 783 felt a bit underpowered when I had my hands on it in my local Cabela's the other day, and they are both rated for baits as light as 1/4 oz. What do you guys think of this combo for a beginner for these applications? Thanks to eveyone for all of your help.

New Revo STX
Is the handle still made from the same material (cold forged aluminum?) as the old one or did they change that with the new model? Also, I did find the handle on the older model to be a bit short. How does the size of the handle on the new model compare to the old one? Same size? I have to admit, I really like the look of that swept handle and drag star a lot from what I have seen in the pics online.

New Revo STX
Does the new STX have the HPCR ball bearings or standard stainless steal?

Loomis casting rods
I got a chance to check out the BCR803 GLX and MBR783 IMX at my local Cabelas today (they did not have the MBR843 in stock). Both rods felt similar, and both felt less powerful than I would have thought. Actually, to me the BCR803 felt a bit more powerful than the MBR783 although it is rated for lighter baits, but this may have just been due to the faster tip. Also, I have not had the pleasure of fishing either rod so I can't really determine this. Does the MBR843 feel more powerful than the 783 to anyone else as Redsyn stated earlier?

Loomis casting rods
I have the SJR 843 IMX spinning rod and I really like the positive hooksets. But I fish from the bank so I was thinking that I would go with the MBR 783 to make casting a bit easier. However, I have not decided yet.

Loomis casting rods
I know that both rods are rated as 3 power rods, but how does the power of the MBR 783/843 compare to the BCR 803. I know the MBR has a higher lure weight rating, but I have heard that the BCR has surprising power.
