Detecting a bite when jig fishing?
What type of line are you using? If you are using mono/copoly then switching to braid will increase sensitivity and your hook setting ability due to the nearly zero stretch of the line.

Curado E upgrades
Wow that was fast. Thanks guys.

Curado E upgrades
I have read about the benefit of cleaning and re-lubing shimano reels and had planned on having this done. Can you guys recommend a person/place I could send my Curado to have this done? About how much will this cost me?

Curado E upgrades
Was wondering what after market upgrades you guys have made to your Curado Es. I'm thinking about upgrading my E7 this offseason and was wondering what was available and what would be worth spending the extra $$ on. Been looking into the Boca Orange Seal bearings (pretty pricey for the 7s). Are these worth the $$, and would only replacing the spool bearings sufice? What other bearings can be replaced and how will this increase performance? Sorry for so many questions at once. Thanks in advance to all who contribute.

Shimano Curado decision
I agree 100% with the above. I love my Curado E7 and I don't find it to be too fast for fishing spinners at all. And as Reel Mechanic stated, you can always slow down a bit if need be without trouble.

New setup - how will this work?
RW, I just got back from work and checked the forum. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that listing in the Flea Market . I really didn't want to make any more purchases until winter/spring, but I guess I don't have a choice now. I can just throw my Curado E7 on it until I get the Aldebaran.

New setup - how will this work?
RW, I like to fish weightless plastics a lot, and when I do fish them weighted it is usually t-rigged with a 1/8oz bullet weight. Occasionally I will step it up to a 1/4oz bullet weight in deeper water. And as for jigs, they will be in the 1/4-1/2oz range. This is why I'm looking at the 3 power rod.

New setup - how will this work?
NewAngler, I was actually a little hesitant to post becuase I thought other might see it as bragging. But as much as I want people to tell me how great this setup will be, I also want to hear any negative feedback as well before I make my final decision. Bronzefly, I feel as though I am always asking for your advice, and it is very much appreciated. My next question for you is how does the performance of the Aldebaran compare to the Core, are they identical? I think I would prefer the Aldebaran MG7 because of the longer handle (84mm) vs the Core MG7 (80mm). Also, I just prefer the plain look of the Bob slightly more.

New setup - how will this work?
Well if the GF gets the reel, then I only need about $250-300 for the rod. I have no problem buying a used rod, as I have had a few great experiences dealing with the members here in the flea market forum and I will keep a close eye on ebay.

New setup - how will this work?
I'm planning on adding a new setup to my collection sometime this winter. I have been doing a lot of research and waffeling, but I'm about 99% sure that I'm going to go with the Aldebaran 51 MG7/BCR853 GLX with 30lb Fireline braid for all of my weighted/unweighted plastics and light jigs (If I can talk my GF into getting me the Bob for x-mas :). Any thoughts/opinions as to why this may not be a good setup for these applications? I should point out that most of my fishing is from shore and usually around light cover.

New PB
Just got into bass fishing this year so I havn't had too much time to hook into many hogs, but I think she's a nice fish for here in CT. Weighed in at 4lbs 11oz.

Core gearing
Thanks for the replies. I had forgotten about the shimano support section. I'll ask Bantam over there.

Core gearing
Does the Core 50/51MG have brass or aluminum gearing?

G Loomis BCR rods
After buying a 6'6" rod for my first casting rod (making the switch from a 7' spinning rod), I realized that I definitly prefer 7' rods. I will definitly consider the 853. Thanks Bronzefly.

G Loomis BCR rods
I usually throw my plastics either weightless or t-rigged with a 1/8-1/4oz bullet weight. Would you guys recommend a 2 or 3 power BCR rod for this? Currently, I use an MBR 843 for these techniques (and everything else) and I like having the power to muscle fish in when needed.

G Loomis BCR rods
From what I have read, it seems that most people feel the Loomis BCR series rods are slightly more powerful than an MBR series rods of the same power. If this is the case, why are the BCR rods rated for lighter lure weights than MBR rods of the same power (BCR853 = 3/16 - 5/8oz and MBR843 = 1/4 - 3/4oz)?

Finesse/light bait setup
Ok so I know everyone loves their Core 50/51 and I have only read good things about it. However, I am interested in how it will balance on the 842 and also how the 842 compares to the 843, as I have never fished or even held the 842.

Finesse/light bait setup
I currently use a Curado E7 mounted on an MBR 843 GLX with 40lb braid as an all around setup. I am looking for a new setup for throwing lighter baits of all types (basically an all around light bait setup). Im looking at the Core 51MG7 and thinking about pairing it with a MBR 842 GLX. What do you guys think about this setup for throwing 1/8 - 1/2oz baits? Is the 842 a significant step down in power from the 843? Also, how do you think the Core 51MG7 will handle 30lb braid when casting baits in this weight range? Any comments or suggestions for other reels/rods are welcome. Thanks all.

On the hunt for a new spinning reel
The Shimano Saros can be found for about $100. One step up from the Symetry and a great reel.

High End Left Hand Baitcast Reels?
Redsyn, how much are you selling that Calais 201 for?

Pflueger BC reels
I did some more looking into this and I found that the Patriarch, not the XT, is the one available in left retrieve. However, I only see it in left retrieve at TW.
-
Pflueger BC reels
Does Pflueger have any plans to make their BC reels in left hand retrieve? They have some beautiful looking reels that I have read great things about performance wise. I would love to get my hands on a Patriarch or Patriarch XT in left hand retrieve. The right hand retrieve reels just feel much too awkward for me.

Curado vs. Chronarch
Which reel will throw lighter baits better, the Curado 200E or the Chronarch 100D? Also, is the Chronarch $120 better than the Curado?

need some opinions.
I agree with Bronzefly. I bought an MBR 843 GLX from the same member selling the MBR 783 in the flee market, a highly recomended seller IMO. I prefer 7' rods and think the 843 is an amaxing all around rod. If you would prefer a 6'6" rod then you can't go wrong with the MBR 783 GLX.
