  1. Beaver, the reason I am looking at a $200 reel as my first is because in the past I have always started lower and worked my way up to the higher end gear rather quickly, spending much more in the end. I told myself that I would do my research and go straight to the mid to upper end gear from the beginning to avoid this money wasting process. Is the new STX significantly nicer than the Citica (I think it would be at nearly double the price)? Also, how do they throw lighter baits like those around 1/4 oz? Thanks for the input.
  2. Anyone here have any experience with the new revo STX? I am looking into getting my first baitcaster and was wondering how the new STX performs. After reading a lot about the older STX the only complaint I can find consistently is about the linear magnetic braking system. How does the new hybrid braking system perform? Also, I tend to cast lighter baits, often in the 1/4 - 1/2 oz range. How will this reel handle these sizes. I know that is a lot to ask, especially for such a new product. Any info at all from anyone with any experience would be very helpful.
  3. I figured it would be a simple reason. Thanks guys.
  4. Can someone please explain the reasoning behind this for me. Thanks.
  5. I have been reading some more and have read some great things about the revo STX. I know it is more expensive, but how would this reel compare to the new citica and curados?
  6. Are the IPT enough for soft plastic/jig fishing or burning spinners?
  7. Mostly weighted and unweighted soft plastics, but also I would like to throw some medium sized jigs and spinners. I would love to put it on a BCR GLX if I could find a good deal on one, but I really have not considered rods too much yet.
  8. I know this has been somewhat of a hot topic latly, but I am looking into getting my first baitcaster and I was wondering if the Citica E would be a good baitcaster for a beginer with no prior experience. Any other suggestions are welcome. However, I am looking for a good midlevel reel, not a budget reel, as I have a bad habit of buying lower end gear intially and then upgrading several times and spending more in the end. Thanks.
  9. Another question. Does the BSR803 have recoil guides? And if so, how do these guides handle braided line? This is the only type of line I use for my soft plastics fishing as I find the sensitivity and hook sets to be far superior to any other type of line.
  10. That is certainly part of my plan.
  11. Thanks Bronzefly. I have the SJR843 IMX and I find it to be a great all around rod with great sensitivity. However, I am looking for an ultra sensitive rod with a faster tip for my designated soft plastic and jig rod. Sounds like my next rod will have to be a BSR803 GLX (when I can afford it that is).
  12. How do the BSR803 and SHR822S compare to each other? Specifically, I am interested in each in GLX. I know one is 6'8" and the other is 6'10" and that the BSR803 has a power rating of 3 and the SHR822S has a power rating of 2, but both are rated for the same weight lures. How does power and the feel of these rods compare?
  13. Not sure exactly where this topic would fit best so I figured I would put it here. Latly, I have been adding to my soft plastics collection quite a bit and they will no longer fit in my standard 3 tray tackle box. I was looking for some advice on how to lug them all around with me. I have been looking into getting a tackle bag in order to make carrying easier. Any suggestions or advice on how to store/carry them with me? Thanks.
  14. I have the saros and love it. Got it for $100 on ebay. Not sure what you can get the symetry for.
  15. Basshunter, I live in Orange. Any good places down around our area for largemouth? I have been trying places all over the area looking for a good spot and my best has been a small pond adjacent to a golf course. Havn't found much else. Thanks for any input.
  16. I have the SJR843 IMX and love it, but unless I am mistaken, I do not believe Loomis offers the SJR843 in GLX. Although I have never used one, I would have to say that the BSR803 GLX would be great for those applications (I want one bad but cannot afford to drop nearly $400 on a rod at this time). Also, the SJR843 IMX will perform quite nicely as well and it is a 7' rod and will save you about $100 over the others in GLX.
  17. Hello everyone. I am looking into planning a fishing trip/getaway for some musky or northern pike fishing for next spring or maybe even this fall. I live in CT and was thinking about heading up to Canada or upstate New York. Anyone know of any good resorts/getaways that would be good for these species that I would be able to drive to. Thanks.
  18. It is my dream to one day own this rod. I just got the SJR843S IMX and I love it. I find it to be a great all around rod, including soft plastics. I can only imagin what the BSR803 GLX would be like.
  19. I have not personally used either of these rods. However, I did just return from fishing my SJR843S IMX (I'm going to refrain from telling you to suck it up and go for the IMX) with some soft plastics and 30 lb fireline braid. I could feel every little tick whether it be the bottom, weeds, or a fish. Although I have never fished the GL3 blank, I imagin it would be similar. Also, I have heard some great things about the avid series rods, and if you go this route you will be saving a few bucks I believe. I would think that you can't lose with either. Not sure if this helps but thats my take on it.
  20. How do you guys think the Loomis BSR803 GLX would perform as a general soft plastic and jig rod? Anyone here with any experience fishing it for these techniques? What else might this rod excel at?
  21. tnbassfisher, how do I go about checking these out?
  22. I'm looking for some good 3/4 - 1 oz spinner baits to entice some larger bass. Can anyone recommend some good ones for me? Thanks.
  23. In that case it sounds like the IMX is the better value then, since it is about $30 cheaper for comparable rods.
  24. Anyone here have any esperience fishing with the St. Croix Legend Elite series rods? The reviews at Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops are all very good. I was wondering how your experiences have been with them and how they compare to the higher end Loomis rods like the IMX and GLX series, as they are at a similar price range.
  25. I have been using fireline braid for a week now for all my soft plastics fishing and, although I cannot compare to others bc this is the first time I have tried braid, I can say that it has been a positive experience. I would say it will be an excellent choice for flipping plastics into pads. I find it to be pretty abrasion resistant. Also, if you have never used braid before, you will be amazed at the sensitivity, I know I was.
