  1. what time of the day are you fishing? i was always told if using topwater its has to be early or at night. thats why im trying to move on to deeper waters in mid mornings/afternoons when the heat is out. but today the pond i was fishing seems to be only 7 feet for the deepest. and i was trying the carolina rigging.
  2. nice!! yea i heard the same, i was throwing the sticko (watermelon seed with red flakes) 7 1/8 but didnt get anything, and nothing off the 10" anaconda (red shad) neither. but i was throwing rage tails frogs (green pumpkin/pearl) nothing spros (leopard and tropical white) nothing, and the smaller anaconda (double header) carolina rigged nothing. so today nothing off of anything so my day sucked! a few light hits on spro but thats is all. i even threw my white spinner out a few times and nothing.
  3. im not sure of set up, im just not a fan of ugly sticks and i never buy a 2 piece. so im my eyes i would eventually up grade the 5'6 rod if anything first and taller, Yeah, the zebco rod i got from a bud because i didn't have a rod for that reel and my shimano rod had a long unhealthy life lol. its not all super glued and duct taped is it?? lol

  5. nice fish, congrats on pb!!
  6. well thats one beautiful decent 9 pounder to me, CONGRATS!!
  7. x2 x3 x6 x7... IMO Quantums are heavy paper weights... Citca KVD must not have a clue. Check this out. $20.00 rebate to boot! http://www.***.com/descpageRLCABUGAR-AGRSTX.html BPS Pro Qualifier is $99.00 and frequently goes on sale. (See Evers Below) No question Shimanos are great reels but they aren't the only ones. I got 2 Accurist PT's on sale at BPS earlier this year ($47.00) and they are among my favorites. Seek and ye shall find. I tend to pay attention to what the pros use. Sure they are sponsored but they can choose their sponsors. None of the top 5 finishers at the Classic this year used Shimano. Skeet used Abu, Ike used Daiwa, Snowden and Evers used BPS and McClelland used Quantum. Maybe Shimano doesn't offer sponsorships but if it was me and there was that much money on the line, I'd use my preferred reel, sponsorship or not. JMHO wow what an avatar. lol but yea my pro qualifier was 99.99. and i love it. i bought the combo with the pro qualifier rod for 189.99 so no sale on reel but on combo 50 dollar saving for the rod goes for 139.99 alone. You got hosed. I was at the big store today and they had the new pro qualifier reel in black with metal flake on rods from 6'6 to 7'0 for $99.99. you sure you seen the right reel. cause mine is an all silver reel.

  9. that im not sure but a guy told me throw a big sticko in the pads so ima give it a shot tomorrow mine is 7 1/8 i think. . i just got me a depth finder put on the jon boat so in the morning hit the pads with frogs and stickos than go deep when heat hits (post to be 100 degrees) and seen if can learn the structures and find the bigger boys.i got everything i need for carolina rigging. i will betrying the anacondas out got the big and small size. i might toss a few jigs too. but yea try the briad it shouldnt take long to figure out. just keep adjusting it till it feels right to you.
  10. you can forget me jumping in the fish aint worth lol. not from the bowfins, pickerels, and that 3 foot snapping turtle i done caught, that's enough to keep me out their waters. god im afraid to know what else is in there. maybe another champ??
  11. to me if using a smaller version of baitcaster 30 lb mono may be to big of diameter. i use 30 lb on my big boys. i would just go ahead and get the braid and work the adjustments till you get the feel for it. and braid seems to come out from bird nesting very easy so far for me at least.
  12. X2 can you guys please elaborate on how to read the structure with the carolina rig? what should I be looking for? Thanks you know the guy at gander mountain told me the same thing. carolina rig. what weight and size do you use cause i just want to try it fishing cause its highly talked about. im getting me a depth finder today i think im going with the eagle fish mark 320. seem to have good reviews just it doesnt like more than a couple of years. but for 159.99 is good enough for me and my jon boat. i check the reviews on the hummingbird 525 and it seems to have real bad reviews and the garmin 140 seems to have high reviews. but the eagle seems to have better features. but oh yea to me question once i find them how should i go about fishing them jigs, plastics, cranks or all will do the trick just the same? i think the deepest crank i got maybe 11 foot beside my lipless crank. sorry 1134 for my questions on your thread. i just didnt want to open a new thread thats around the same subject and be told theres already one. not saying it would happen but it has on other forum sites i belong to.
  13. only spot i fished on that waters was off of hope rd near the court house. cause that name sounds familiar likes its that spot but man been years. i was fishing off the docks there near the boat marina and caught some nice size cats probably in the 5 pound range.
  14. i know and love every moment of it lol. theres another pond thats bigger than this one filled with vegetation. actually alot worse but the base is making it hard for me to get on cause i dont have my county sticker. fishing the veggie is great now i just have to find the bigger boys i had couple hook ups that felt at least bigger than what im catching but they slipped away.
  15. to his question on structure im bout to rig up my depth finder on my jon boat. its only the cheap eagle version. how much will that let me know? im soon to upgrade but for now its all i got
  16. hey burce, what rod you going to use? or are you going to try to use your spinning reels rod?? or do you have another rod for the baitcaster?? i myself just got into baitcaster and my first one is the bps pro qualifier. it is 99.99 and 189.99 for the combo. i have yet had any problems with it rod or reel.
  17. ima get the popper this weekend. i went out this morning round 9:00 in the morning due to rain i didnt have to work. caught three on my leopard spro. alot of hits couple i tried to set to soon and one got off from wrapping me up.
  18. canal stalkin, to your question on frogs today i went out using my spro had some good hits. couple grab and i set to soon and another got off that felt maybe in two pound range. but i got three and i use using my spro bronzeye frog65 (leopard).
  19. if the second one is 15 inches its probably near round 2 pounds. the one in my avatar was close to 19 and he was only 3.5 pounds. but like j flancho says your confidence is that most important. did you try the same canal where you caught the first bass at?
  20. i happy with the gander mountain tournament combo for 79.99! mine is a spinning reel with a one piece 6'6 rod. no problems with it yet. i use flouro, mono and braid. so far i like mono over flouro but i only used two brands of flouro. seagar carbon pro and spider wire. my mono now is suffix elite. the braid i use is bps excel braid. i like the mono suffix alot dont really care for the flouro seagar carbon pro and the flouro spider wire i didnt like my reel so hard to say bout it. i always wanted to try gamma post to be guaranteed or money back (says it on the box) but i dont know. you just have to find what you like and stick with it for line. i have no problem with excel braid as well. i have it lined on two poles. my pro qualifier 30# and my big big saltwater pole 50#
  21. im just getting into that myself and can only recommend what what recommended to me and so far i have caught fish on them. the spro bronzeye frog65. i have the leopard. and the rage tails. both worked for me alot of hits though off rage tails. green pumpkin/pearl.. just didnt get the hook set right and jumped the gun to soon. the rage tail kicks up some water now. there is a topic on frogs im sure just might have to do a search. its probably better to search first than start a new thread. there is one on the spros. and im sure someone else will post on this post to your question on frogs. but other than those i only tried the original frog from walmart, no hits off of it and the other two is all i tried. im not sure of anything else ribbit dont look to bad and seem to have a good review on it. not sure of rest like zoom etc.
  22. thats a nice looking three pounds. i wont argue with it lol congrats. im glad im no longer shore bound but the one in my avatar is shore bound.
  23. bigger than your first post for sure. keep it up congrats
  24. how many green top is there? i only know of one the one in ashland or is that it?
