  1. That’s an easy fix if you’d like to contact me
  2. As enjoyable and effective bait casting is, spinning tackle still has its place.
  3. Looks good. The Rx6 is a good choice for a first build. A good quality blank , affordable enough to not stress over being your first crack at it.
  4. Bass don’t know what they’re eating for the most part. I think it’s the vibration and flash that make them like spinner baits. As long as the color is visible to them in the water and light conditions I don’t feel it matters much. The research I saw said that bass see chartreuse as white so it probably only matters to us.
  5. I feel the whole discussion of “balance” is one of if not the most over blown beat to death discussions in rod building and bass fishing in general. You take a light, crisp blank, layout a guide train with the smallest, lightest and least guides then place the seat to have a handle length that will supply some leverage braced on the forearm but not so long as to snag pockets or poke you in the ribs and you’ll have a good performance rod that’s a pleasure to fish.
  6. Tackle Tour should be taken with a grain of salt. They have some good info but sometimes nerd out and get really into the weeds.
  7. Mag seal has zero appeal to me. Grease on the seam has helped kept reels running for 20 years plus.
  8. I like a glass rod for deep cranking. A good one like that will still transmit feel and have some power
  9. We’ll talk tomorrow. It’s not defective, rest easy. If I don’t pick up leave a message and I’ll get back.
  10. It’s a minor adjustment and easy fix. Actually had nothing to do with the drag itself.
  11. Yes, the AR is just over lubricated. Just be careful handling the AR assembly. Pluck it out in one piece and don’t spill the pins out.
  12. Contact me and I’ll walk you through the fix. 973-459-2835
  13. The DC system is user friendly, but would argue not thumb-free. At least not if used to it’s fullest.
  14. There’s no undeniable advantage to any of those in this scenario. For lack of anything better, I’d start with one of the 6.x:1 and see if I liked it.
  15. IM has no industry standard. The destination is useless except for comparing rods from the same maker. As for high modulus rods in general, they not prone breakage, merely less tolerant of abuse and poor technique. Treat it with a reasonable amount of care and avoid high sticking(bending tip beyond 90*) and you’ll find them incredibly durable and powerful.
  16. Dock skipping and casting into the wind with any bait you’d throw on a similarly powered casting rod.
  17. You’re hung up on center of guide. The line is going to touch guide rings during casts no matter what. I wouldn’t push the stripper beyond 20” in this case unless it was intended for a large, high reel like am Ambassaduer 6500. There is a video for KH casting guides on anglers resource. If I remember it will suggest the same or similar as I have.
  18. Put the RV 19-20” from face of reel and static test from there.
  19. Yoke, yolk is yellow part of an egg. I m leaning toward assembly method rather than mechanical issue.
  20. I agree one should have nothing to do with the other. Do you feel the drag doesn’t start up correctly or sticks when paying out line? Is it possible that the sound merely gives the perception of jerkiness?
  21. The only application where ratio is mechanical advantage is 5:1 / 20 ipt +/- for deep cranks and high resistance baits. The faster are all personal preference. Faster reels are nice for taking up slack quickly when necessary, how fast is up to you.
  22. 90% come from the same place(s). Just order from a reputable supplier. If you know how many and what size I’ll give you a price if you want
  23. Line IPT varies between reels with the same ratio with those having larger diameter rotors/nails taking up more line.
  24. The first answer from MN fisher is all you need
  25. The question of what “smooth” means in reference to reels is a constant concern to people like I that service them. The two main camps are super free and buttery for lack of a better term. The types and volume of lubricants can be used to fine tune for either, obviously within the capabilities of the reels design and construction. My default during service is a middle ground that results in a more connected, buttery feel than purely “free”. Lightweight, rigid reels transmit feel much like a high modulus rod often leading to a misinterpretation of “geariness”. Bottom line, smooth is whatever it means to you.
