  1. Yes, I sometimes have to ask customers what they consider “smooth”. Some like a super free “airy” feel like you, others prefer the “buttery” feel you get from the heavier lubes which is my default system.
  2. I prefer casting tackle for chuck & wind baits. I use M/F spinning rods but find myself reaching for my MLs more often for spinning applications.
  3. I failed to mention initially and another poster found out the hard way: if you oil a spinning reel pinion bearing, drain it well or the oil can leak out and foul the AR.
  4. The SLX is as close to the old Curado as you can get. Buy either with confidence.
  5. Not rod related but I deal with Pure Fishing regularly with no issues.
  6. Personally the externally adjustable centrifugal brakes aren’t worth $30 to me. I miss the old set it and forget it style. Longevity wise, either will outlast you if cared for.
  7. I got a chuckle out of the big deal they make of it. Lews is P2, Shimano is Xship, while Daiwa is eh, how we done it for years.
  8. I’d like to catch a bass. Can you tell me what rod, reel, line and bait to use and send me gps locations and lake names. Boat and trailer would be nice too. Where do I get a fishing license?
  9. I don’t think the current schematic is posted yet. That’s a good upgrade if they’ve done it.
  10. You can argue for or against anything. On paper the Doyo reels lack the pinion support bearings where others have two. In actual use on the water they work fine. Longevity wise other reels will likely last longer if neither are cared for. Regular maintenance is a great equalizer though.
  11. There are lots of different graphite materials and other composites. If I were inclined to make an argument against the OPs reel frame flex wouldn’t be part of it.
  12. Most likely the backup AR as suggested.
  13. Email mlawson@delawarevalleytackle.com 973-459-2835 Sorry for the difficulty definitely want to address it. Email call or pm Send at your convenience for first come first served.
  14. Yes excess needs to be drained well from spinner pinion support bearings to not interfere with the AR. Gear oil should be much easier to clean out than grease.
  15. The difference is subtle in actual use. Don’t agonize over it. Personally I think it’s easier to slow down cranking than to wind like crazy so I use 7:1 reels mostly.
  16. When you say they didn’t last what exactly happened ? Just curious
  17. Just pick the one with the features that appeal to you the most. Mechanically they’re near identical.
  18. There’s no standard to compare by. There’s a system called CCS that give an objective measurement to power, speed and action but you would need both rods to measure yourself.
  19. No need to ever open a bearing. Just a dip they don’t need to soak. I lay them on a towel to drain the excess.
  20. I use a bath in 80-140 gear oil. It lasts as long as grease and much easier. Pressing the grease into bearings is messy and a pia even with special tools.
  21. I guess I’m spoiled. My wife is more apt to push me to buy something nice for myself once in a while. I stopped and looked at a Tracker Heritage on display without saying much. She ordered one that night and told me the next day! It’s a two way street though. I see to that.
  22. I don’t frequent them but have seen Abassaduer specific websites and forums. Someone there might be of help. I doubt it’s worth anything collector wise.
  23. As is so often the case, brands and models all some points in their favor. The self contained Shimano AR, worm gear oscillator, with Daiwa air bail would be sweet.
  24. I launch in St Johnsville regularly. It’s a great fishing pool. I plan on learning the 7-8 pol pool around Freeman’s bridge this year.
