Casting Rod Help: Daiwa Tatula SV TWS for Senko/Wacky/Weightless
Thin trick worms are light but a salty bait like a senko is heavier than many realize. I throw 4 & 5 inch senkos on casting gear with no problem at all.

BC braking system question, educate me please
The tabs are centrifugal brakes. Some newer models have an adjustable drum for the tabs to rub on. Magnetic brakes are adjusted with just a dial. Then there are dual brakes with a mag dial and fixed drum centrifugal brakes. The idea of dual brakes is for them to work in conjunction providing better braking across the spectrum of spool speed.

Soaking/cleaning bearings on a new reel?
Swishing them around speeds up the process. You’ll see what looks like white flakes floating in the solvent. That’s the old grease. Change the fluid and repeat until it stays clean and the bearing spin easily and quietly and don’t come to an abrupt halt.

Googan Brand Rods?
Yup 2% giving the 98% a bad rap.

Is there something wrong with my reel?
If you’re not comfortable servicing the Orra yourself send it in and I’ll clean and evaluate any other issues found.

Googan Brand Rods?
Their followers are not comprised of the same demographic as here. They are utter nonsense as far as I’m concerned but bless them for what they’ve built.

Spinning reel drag washers?
Smoother, stronger, longer lasting and most importantly in that case they won’t swell and bind when wet

Rod shipping
Most likely a conveyor belt. If you’d ever seen inside a shipping center you’d see how it can happen. The sheer volume moving through there is overwhelming. Accidents happen. The shipper will make good and square up with the carrier.

Rod shipping
That’s not the postman’s fault. If they give it to him he has to deliver it as is. Simply contact the shipper and they should replace it.

150 size versus 200 size BC reel line capacity
It’s just an arbitrary code as far as I can tell. Check the specs for each individual reel model that interests you.

First successful guide wrapped
It’s called dressing the guide. A quick google search will show you. Welcome to the dark side.

First successful guide wrapped
Nice and neat. If I may make a suggestion, file the guide foot down to make a smooth transition. That will eliminate the bump at the end and make wrapping much easier.

Looking into fly fishing reels and rods
A cast reel will be ok if your not rough with it. Of course machined is a higher quality. I build my own rods so I can’t speak to over the counter options with any degree of certainty. I would avoid too fast of an action as a new caster. Keep in mind that fly line weight on rods is as subjective as lure weight labels on a casting or spinning rod. Like any other rod look for something that feels good in hand and with a fast recovery (note whippy or noodley). No need to break the bank. Fly tackle tends to be more prone to higher priced name brand labels.

Don’t go overboard on the reel all it does is hold line. Just make sure it can accept spare spools. Don’t scrimp on the fly line. Weight forward is easiest and most versatile. Add a tapered leader. Have the fly shop load the backing and line for you.- Shimano
Delaware Valley Tackle replied to Maxximus Redneckus's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsWalk off a lot or line and check for kinks, loops or knots. They can catch and cause bunching of the line.- Curado K
The vibration felt in a Met or other light weight reel is more a function of the light weight than anything inherently wrong with the gears. Rather than swapping gears in a new reel, I’d just maintain it well and if/when the gears need replacing decide on which set to use. If you don’t like the vibration buy a different model out of the gate. - Looking into fly fishing reels and rods
