  1. Thats cool, I was up on Presque Isle Bay too this past weekend! My uncle and I went up June 5th-8th. We seen a few boats drifting with wind socks, so I bet I seen you! We did alright, we caught about 70 over the trip. We got a bunch of smallmies, probably more smallmouth than largemouth! We caught them mostly on jerkbaits and spinnerbaits. I picked a few off their beds with a berkley beast. It was a blast! Heres is a pick of one of my nicer smallmouth:
  2. I fish ponds a lot, and also like throwing spinner-baits and buzz-baits. Weightless texas-rigged worms work great for me too. If you can't catch them on a weightless worm however, I would recommend adding a small slip sinker, 1/8 oz. is a good size. I catch a lot of pond bass that way. Also,
  3. All jokes aside, that sounds like some pretty serious technology!
  4. Sounds like a good time for a spinner bait. Willow leaf blades are best in weedy areas.
  5. I really like my BPS extreme rod. It seems to be fairly sturdy as I have smashed the guides a bit and they haven't broken or bent. To answer your question, a Carolina rod from the extreme series would probably be a good purchase.
  6. Baitcasters are good for heavy baits and line. Spinning reels are good for not getting backlashes. I use spinning reels all the time because I am more comfortable with them.

Im not sure if its still made but I like it a lot too. I got about 1 package left, it lasts a while.
  8. Heres a pic I happened to have on my phone:
  9. Sounds like you had an interesting day catching your first bass. !
  10. One of the ponds I fish in is usually completely covered in algae. And guess what; i still catch some nice bass out of it! Apparently the fish still have enough oxygen to survive. So even if the pond doesn't look so great, you don't know whats in it till you fish it. Good luck!
  11. I would say that it is very likely for your pond to hold large bass. If you have seen some caught up to 7 pounds, there is probably some big ones in it. From my experience, spring time is best for catching the biggest bass from a pond. The big ones become more vulnerable when they spawn. I don't know if you use live bait, but you might try using a small live bluegill under a bobber or just free-lined. Also topwaters like buzzbaits work great for big bass. Good luck!

Ive been too busy too cruise this site much lately, , but I think its kinda sad that people have made a deal outa post count. ;D very true
  13. I also have kept all my old bassmasters and am not sure what to do with them yet. It would have been nice to have started organizing them from the start, but i didnt. Live2fish- Thats a really cool collage!!!
  14. This one:
  15. Im from the north too, and most of the fish I target would probably just be intimidated by large bluegill swimbait. That is why im considering to buy the Yamamoto swimbait, at 3 1/2", and in maybe the green pumpkin/red flake color. Then just rig it on a large jig head. I think that at $4 for a bag of five, this would imitate a bluegill well, and be closer to their average size. Also, as far as price, $20 is not an extreme amount for the quality of a Mattlures bait when compared to $16 lucky crafts and $8 rapalas.
  16. Sweet, that is a good deal.
  17. This was an entertaining topic to read! ;D My biggest quirk would probably be that I never buy the first bag of worms off the rack. I always take a bag from behind then put the front bag back. :-?
  18. Cool, I was hoping someone would start a leage, please give me the pw.
  19. I would highly recomend the BPS dvd's. They are very informative. As others have mentioned, the best way to learn though, is by actualy fishing. Remember to keap your line tight and you will usually feal the bite. It also helps to watch your line.
  20. That is funny!!!! ;D ;D ;D priceless...
  21. Im not sure why, you are losing the fish. :-? On one of my last trips i was usinbg braided line with a small crankbait. I lost 5 fish and landed 1. But that doesnt really concern your problem. Maybe you could try using a smaller hook. I normaly use about a 2/0. Also, I skin hook the worm, instead of burying it in the plastic. I hope your luck changes! Also, !
  22. Avid, lol. That was a good one. BTW, how does this topic have 10 pages!? lol :-?
  23. Thats awesome that you are in 41st place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is impressive! Im currently in 3172 nd place. I dont think i would drop kvd or Reese. You probably have them locked for way cheap. (as do I) Remitz hasnt been doing much lately, maybe drop him and just get whoever you can. Maybe like Casey Ashley. This is a major gamble but thats what you have to do to win. Good luck!!!!!!
  24. Well im not sure exactley the style of your jon boat, but I normaly stand whenever I fish from them. If you do fall, which I have, you try to fall in the boat not in the water. That probably sounded dumb. Anyway the only thought I have about flipping while sitting down is that maybe a shorter rod would work. Jeff: Bill Dance has ripped seats right off the deck. Have you watched the Bill Dance Bloopers? Hilarious! ;D ;D
  25. Ive had a president since this spring and so far I like it.
