  1. There is a small population of those in the brackish water swamps of north-east Siberia.
  2. I had a bluegill fishing campaign afew years ago, I like a float and fly. A small bobber and a little fly. Like a mosquito imitation dry fly. Works on inactive and pressured fish to.
  3. I have never had the pleasure of catching a grass carp, but this year I got dialed in on common carp. Terminal tackle you could buy: swivels, beads, egg sinkers, small baitholder hooks, gold aberdeen hooks, light mono for the leader, maybe a 50lb braid mainline. There are no rules written in stone so have fun experimenting with your rig and tackle. Thats part of the game. I want to try some small pyramid sinkers with sliders when I go carping again, probably after the spring rains.
  4. Stripers are not magical creatures, they are of flesh and blood. Most dams will stop their migration path.
  5. No matter how bad it is, it doesn't seem that bad to other people. An interest in suicide doesn't last long.
  6. That picture literally gave me nightmares last night. My weapon for big spiders is a canoe paddle.
  7. Don't cut your line with your teeth. terrible habit.
  8. I have worked in a pet shop fish department for several years too. I am already seeing hints of aggression in my algae eater. My silver dollar I have had for maybe 5 years or more. He is big now and has been through the wars with that redtail. But he is a gentle giant, doesn't even chase the tiny tetras. His effect on my java fern is negligible at most. Very rarely does he pick. I think the tinfoil barbs he used to be with were way worse on the plants. I might add some rummy noses when this bunch gets established.
  9. Having lots of little fish in a big tank is cool I think. Thats what Im doing with my 55.
  10. Now that I have retired from open water for the season, I have found myself very interested in the fish hobby. I had a redtail catfish in my 55 gallon for two years till I finally got rid of it. Now I have the one fish that survived the redtail's wrath, a big silver dollar. Also Im re-establishing my live plants that were uprooted by the redtail. Just recently I added a chinese algae eater. Then I added ten assorted tetras. Very cool looking little fish. I also have a rubber pleco in there to eat with the algae eater. I have also started a new tank, a 20 gal coldwater. I have six comets in there now. Comets are close relatives to carp so I can actually study their behavior and think about how that would apply to fishing. Comets are cheap and sold as feeders, but that dosen't mean that they can't make an exciting tank. You guys keep fish?
  11. Once the river runs clear in the fall you will be hard pressed to catch anything. The fall bite starts early and ends early. At least thats my experience. I have already packed it in for the season.
  12. Is that a strong northwest?
  13. Lets throw a shipload of tea in the California Delta
  14. I like mono with a wire leader. I like it best in moving water like a river. For the retrieve keep it moving but vary the pace with your rod. I fish even little spinners with a casting combo. With a steel leader you can get away with a thin mainline. Toothy fish love spinners so a leader is key, also most leaders have a swivel which is necessary with these lures. Its definitely a reaction-strike lure.
  15. They could ship the stripers to the east coast, we could use some more.
  16. Welcome! I see your favorite lake is Attitash, I have fished that lake my whole life. In boats and on the ice. Great access and water for a vessel like yours. I live in haverhill
  17. Big jerkbaits/minnow baits.
  18. Yeah it might catch a fish. But does it have any kind of action? I would think it would sink like a rock and not have any action. If you catch something on it great. But will this realistically replace your husky jerks and lucky crafts?
  19. Adding a trailer like a grub will give the hook part some more body and bulk.
