  1. Maybe punk kids are catching them and killing them. Happened to a tiny farm pond near my house.
  2. Lures with Bill Dance's signature on them are deadly. Lures with Jimmy Houston's signature are good to, but not as good as that Bill Dance.
  3. Smallmouth relate to rocks, largemouth relate to weeds.
  4. ok. Ill just leave it at that. I could extrapolate numerous reasons why LH is better hands down for ME. I didn't mean to start an argument.
  5. LH retrieve is far superior. There is no need to be switching hands every cast.
  6. The reason i am intrigued by this line is no stretch. I saw a clip with some pro and he said it is basically invisible braid as far as stretch goes, for maximum hooksets in deep water with alot of line out. interesting feature. Abrasion resistance is a key factor to.
  7. I like to have a fat bag of nuts or seeds. If im gona be missing a meal I will pack a protein bar along with the nuts. For drinks: either coffee, beer, or strong drink with a chaser.
  8. bump...I want to try this line. Mainly for the reason that it has minimal stretch and is invisible. It seems like the pros use fc for most techniques. What knot is best to tie with fc?
  9. I definitely like the chatterbait brand over the rage blade. But they are two different lures. Chatterbait is the original and I think the hex blade with rigid angles makes it the best.
  10. From my observation of smallmouth bass around a major island in a expansive clear lake, I would occasionally see schools come in and stage over rock structure. The typical make-up of these schools were mostly "schooly" sized smallmouth, with a some small fish and afew larger fish, the larger fish being around 3lbs. I have no doubt that these fish will wander the lake in a pelagic nature, stopping by an island or structure sometimes. When I would catch a smallmouth in that schooly size I would always be sure to fish that area further. Another type of school I would often see is a pair of big fish. Two big smallmouth together as a pair. I would observe these pairs; these were the 4lbers and bigger. One time I saw a pair of huge fish just bombing thru the shallow rocks looking to quickly ambush a sunfish. Healthy sunfish are agressive and fast, and I believe these predators would pair up so they individually would have a better chance at a sunfish. A lone slow cruiser is looking for crayfish not sunfish.
  11. What is the best braid for situations where rocks and toothy fish are a factor? I don't want to mess around with fluorocarbon. I would rather use a steel leader than that stuff.
  12. White chatterbait
  13. You smoked em from the bank. Is that a river bank? What lure and presentation caught those smallies?
  14. I might pick up a shiny black daiwa. I have a question, does the daiwa laguna have the free floating spool design like the zillion?
  15. I've never heard a spinner ring. But I'll listen closely the next time I fish one.
  16. Yes I was playing with my new tackle but I knew when to put on a proven lure for the situation I encountered. I didn't let trying a fancy new jig prevent me from catching fish, i caught a good one!
  17. This Q is with spring in mind. I want to put a swimbait trailer on my swimjigs. I will be primarily fishing for smallmouth; but pike, LM, and stripers could see my lure to. I am planing on getting some lunker city baits for the trailer, specifically the shaker. http://www.lunkercity.com/ I was thinking the 4.5" shaker would be good on a jig but then I thought it might be kind of big for brown fish. Maybe the 3.25" would be best for smallies. What do yall think?
  18. Went out (bank) fishing today with the intent of fishing some of my new jigs. I fished a craw pattern siebert brush jig with a matching lizard trailer. My problem is I cast it out and let it fall on a semi-taught line and then start the retrieve; I get nothing but weeds. weeds, weeds, weeds. The jig i was casting was I think 1/2 oz. I like to use a 6' rod when bank fishing because I can get the accuracy and nimbleness in close quarters. So that weight jig was my best bet for slinging it far. I just get bogged down in the weeds and can't fish it effectively. I can cast it out and swim it back quickly to avoid the weeds but that defeats the purpose of a jig slow dragged on the bottom for cold water fish. Wut should I do because in the summer the bottoms of these waters are even more weedy than they are now? How do I drag a jig without getting buried in weeds? After working with my jig and only getting a pickerel to follow, I switched to my best chatterbait and caught a bass over 3lbs.
  19. I made an order from Siebert because of the recommendations from all u guys. Included in my order is two swim jigs, one bloody white and one silver white. I think they will be killer swimming in the river early spring. I plan on using white grub and white swimbait trailers with them. I also ordered two football head jigs and a random jig pack from Siebert. Im not a jig master but by the end of next year i will be proficient with the jig. Its my belief that white patterns are the best for swimming a jig because it imitates shad and minnows.
  20. Its a good bait. For me it has a very specific situation when it is best: a bug bite. If there is a swarm of bugs on the water my little crazy crawler is deadly. It looks like a bumble bee bumbling on the surface.
  21. "many men will fish their whole lives without knowing it is not fish they are after..."
  22. I saw a whole family of baby ducks get taken under in the river. It was like they were just slurped under. The poor mother went back to the shore and started vocalizing, all her babies taken under by something. It was striper season.
  23. Just my speculation, but it looks like a subtle lure that would excel in shallow, clear, and calm water. You could probably get a similar presentation with an original floater.
