Calling All Cartographers!
Well, it's been gone at least since I moved to Belton (almost 3 years ago) but if it makes you feel better, I have 2 different versions of Fork on the LMS332C and a paper map. we'll have much better maps and contours we just won't have the marks... I figure we'll be ok, I heard that you were like a German Short Hair Pointer... I will set you on the front deck and idle around until you "lock up." You do point for beer, right? ...lol

Fly Fishing....
My fingers aren't working well this morning so I can't type out a good response for you.... search: "fly" any user, rods section, subject only, year, show one per thread several excellent threads came up that answer your questions. (and some of those threads also have links in them.

Calling All Cartographers!
I never marked up maps before I went... but if you have a banner day or find something not on the map, by all means mark it, circle it, highlight it or whatever because someday you will forget the spot. I'll give you a perfect example- I used to live down the road from fork and fished it every week, I had a map with litterally hundreds of marks and numbers (for seasonal ID of marks) so when I moved and started fishing it 1-2 times per year, I did about as well as I used to. I have since moved again and lost the sacred map. :'( :'( Now it's been a couple years since I have been there and I am going on the BassResource.com trip... can you see how valueable that map would have been to me? The lake doesn't look the same as it used to, between trees being broken off at surface level and some development around the banks and just a general change in surroundings make it look like a totally different lake. Jim's point about being out of date is very good, lots of areas silt in over time and change a lot.

All Star comes through!
No, I'm in central Tx. All Star is in Houston... and only the newer "Classic" ($40) rods are imported. I wish they still offered blanks... they have a couple that I really like.

All Star comes through!
Glad to hear it! Sorry it became an ordeal but glad they stepped up. They are still a good bunch of people and a local favorite of mine, regardless of current ownership.

Line Selection
I use XT in 14# and 17# primarily, and on occasion go to 10# 12# or 20# for certain lakes. I keep a MG50 spare spool with 50#braid in the glovebox but have never had it on. I like spiderwire xxx mono (green box) and suffix mono in the winter. The reasons are pretty basic... I fish lots of rock & submerged timber (much of it is mesquite) and XT is about the best in terms of abrasion resistance and durability. We have to constantly cut and retie so we re-spool quite regularly and XT isn't very expensive either. I also have to break it when hung and the fact that it's mono I can still break it on demand. The only drawback I really have to put up with is memory. But it's so warm here that memory isn't an issue for 8-9 months of the year. In the cold weather, it becomes very stiff and is like the older, metal slinky. Oh, and on my spinning reels I use suffix or spiderwire xxx mono, just in lighter #'s.

Cabela's Rod blanks question
I would go feel both, it's not like you won't enjoy the trip anyway! ....lol You will like the action and power of one of them better, no doubt in my mind. I've never compared 2 rods or blanks side by side and walked away a tie. You can see by the responses that there is mixed preferences... to me that says you really should make the drive and play with both. I got curious so I just looked up the XML blanks... they only have a mod. in the ML 4-10. And the price is about the same as the SCIII. You'd have to jump to a Med to get a fast, as you specified in your first post. I guess it's a matter of do you want a ML, fast or ML mod. between the SCIII and the XML... go try them both and you will for sure like one better, they will feel very different.

Salt
;D That's a great one!! Doesn't she know that the sweat off the beer can is almost as good as purell? :-?

Worn, Reel? Keep or trash?
One of my best friends has an original Procaster from the late 70's or early 80's... he still fishes it regularly and it still works like a champ. Send your's to ReelMech and let him clean and lube it, I bet it feels new again after that. His prices & work are great and service is fast.

$100 magnesium spinning reel.
How nice to have a sub 8oz option for a reasonable price!! That's always been my beef with spinning reels, most of them are tanks!

Cabela's Rod blanks question
pf2, The blank in question may be ok... I can't comment either was as I haven't seen or held it. I guess to backtrack on my answer above.... depending on what you are going to do with it, the Cabela's blank may actually be nice. They may have that rod built in the store so you can see how it feels. If you are going to use little spinners and minnow type baits, it may be great... Oh, and you better call first, the retail locations don't usually stock any blanks! (I also made that mistake after a 75 mile drive!)

Senko's, etc, shelf life?
Ok, what's the half-life of salt? ;D They could probably sit in that cabinet for 20 years. I can tell you from experience that the original powerworm formula will actually develop a worse smell when forgotten about for a couple years. ...lol

Salt
Yes, it's the salt... once in a while I'll take a bite but also chew for a while, it's something about the Tx heat in the summer and needing salt. salt tabs would just be too easy. ...lol

Cabela's Rod blanks question
pf2, Welcome to the forum! You don't have many choices in a blank as you describe... the 2 pc. doesn't help your selection. You have a couple more options if you are willing to go up a touch in power like to a 6-12 line rating but as it sits, the only (good) things other than the SCIII are a Loomis GL-3 S783-2-GL3 6'6" 2 MEDIUM FAST 4-10lb 1/8-3/8oz 5 .354 $107.00 (mud hole) and an American Tackle Elite AESP783-2 6'6" 2 pc. MED-LT FAST 6-10 LB 1/4-1/2 5 .482 1.5 $106.14 I'd rather have the SCIII, considering the prices of all... use that $38 for better components. I believe the blanks are comparable... there isn't $38 difference, no matter how you slice it. I built a spinning finesse rod last year on an SCIII blank and I couldn't be happier...

Fishing is LOSING Popularity?
Nor do I. It seems like there are tons of kids I could take but only a few times a year do I actually take some of them. A lot of truth in those 2 lines... I am also guilty as I used to jump into the coveralls and wear polypropelene underwear... these days I am guilty of skipping the sleet, snow, heavy rain and high wind days and hang out here at BassResource.com. When we were kids, there was no internet and we didn't have the money for video games, so we played outside, fished, got dirty, etc. All my nephews would rather play video games than catch fish, throw the ball, etc.

Salt
GMAN, I have some favorite plastics that have very little or no salt and also use some that are heavily salted... as for anything but weight I always doubted the salt did much and here is why I thought that- to get a strong flavor the salt must be at or on the surface and my thinking is that what little bit of salt is at the surface will "taste" but anything that was on the surface has washed off before the fish saw it and all the weight salt in the middle is useless for flavor. Take all this with, yes... a grain of salt. (sorry) because: when I was reading some of Doug Hannon's answers to questions, he made the statement that bass have a good sense of taste. I had always heard that they had a weak sense of taste until I read his comment. So does that mean anything for salt in particular? I don't know. But based on my own experience I doubt the flavor of salt does anything extra. Have you ever read a longer "I don't know"? ...lol

1 vrs 2 piece rods. what are the difference?

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Lane, I would be mighty beholden to you if I could get my hands on a few of them crawfish. Just let me know what I need to do. Thanks! Ronnie Ronnie, She meant for bait, not dinner! You cajuns... We'll have to keep and eye on you!! ...lol

!@#$%^&*&^% PATRIOTS !!!
5BL, I'm right there with ya! I was pulling for S.D. What a killer for the fans. I just hope Indy can beat them!! On a positive note, the Bears looked like the bye week gave them some new life. I spent part of my childhood in Chicago so the Bears are my hope for the super bowl this year. I think we are due for a re-recording of "Super Bowl Shuffle" ;D ;D ;D ;D hat song was gay even when I was in grade school!! ...lol

1 vrs 2 piece rods. what are the difference?
We've all been there at one time or another... at least you are stuck there in a time when decent rods are available to you. When I was there, all the ferrules were made of mild steel and chrome plated... Don't worry about it. Sure a 1 pc. may be stronger or more sensitive but until you can carry 1 piece rods around, this discussion will only discourage you. Unless you spend most of your time worm and jig fishing, you probably couldn't even tell the difference if you were blindfolded. (and even then I bet less than 50% of anglers could tell)

How thick ?
No, because all the gear was already on the floor and now you add the weight of the plywood and 3 people all raised up and the COG raises up with them. At least you are thinking though!
-
Are they really pro's?
I think that as a junior, you don't know what BASS was over the past 20+ years... it's not the same as it used to be and criticisms over the last year or two are well founded in many cases. If you were a little older you might see it differently, or at least see that it was much less commercialized in the past. No need to let your feather get ruffled.

Swimbait combo for state record....
Sounds like an adventure! I wish you a chance at the record! Are you dead set on round reels? If so, why? If not, you might want to consider the Revo S as a swimbait reel... it will cast and handle swimbaits just fine, has an incredible and smooth drag system (rated at 25 lbs.) only cost $99 and can be used for anything else you need after you land the record. I am using my Revo S on the swimbait rod at the moment and think it's perfect for the job. If you still want round, look at the Cardiff- it's not real sexy but it's one that Matt of Mattlures recommends which is a solid enough endorsement for me!

if flouro is invisible
It may be important to consider that the camera does pick up more than the eye... that could account for something. I know what you mean but in person I don't see it that well, like on tv. All I can vouch for is that fluoro is much harder for my eyes to see in the water than mono.

Bass pro's edorsements, the same or modified?
I realize they don't buy it and meant to put the same reels that ship to wal-mart or academy. Anyway, I see you point. I'm sure there are pro's that do use stock stuff and pro's that have modified gear.
