Went to Trophy Country to fish with Ghotti
I had a great weekend planned, trout fishing on Sat, go check out Trophy Country on Sunday. I only live 2hrs from Trophy Country, never been there. When ghotti, RW, and Long Mike were booked to go a couple of weeks ago I so desperately wanted to go and meet those guys, ghotti had called me and ensured that I would be welcome. However, I couldn't get things worked out to come. So, I thought I would just go down by myself and check it out this weekend. I called Duke, the owner to let him know I was coming. He asked me how I heard about it, and I told him from this site and ghotti (used his real name). I said "I guess he's a pretty regular customer of yours, you know him?" He said "Yeah, he's here right now." Cool! So I gave ghotti a call, left a message that I was going to be down there on Sunday and hoped they would still be around so I could meet him. About ten minutes later, ghotti calls and asks if I can come Saturday instead. So, I rearranged things, met them down there on Sat. Left home at 4am, got to the cabin at 6, had breakfast and a good bs session with ghotti, his friend Steve, and his step son. Then ghotti and I head out to fish. This place is really something. They have pretty nice aluminum boats staked out at each location. They give you batteries, boat seats, a plug and a trolling motor, and you just go find where you want to fish. To change locations, you just take all your stuff and head to a new lake. The things I heard about it were dead on. We caught a lot of fish! Nothing huge, probably 80% of them were 2-21/2 lbs. Caught a couple 3-31/2. The fish there are soo strong. It got really windy, and we fought that some, but it was warm and sunny and over all a great day. (when your catching fish after fish, who cares if the wind is blowing!) Ghotti is a great guy, a good fisherman, and we had a lot of fun. Then we went back to the cabin for some fish-camp pasta, some re-hashing of the day, and I drove home. Thanks ghotti! Here are a few pictures:

Are Length/Slot Limits Still Revelant?
There is a lake around here that has a slot limit, and I usually take some home from there every time. I do think it needs to be done more because there are a lot of small fish in there. I also believe there are several other fisheries around here that need to do the same thing. However, if the anglers don't keep the little fish, a slot limit doesn't help. From what others tell me, it has really improved the walleye fishing by having slot limits.

Rude Anglers
There is just no reason to do that to another angler.

Really bad Halloween jokes
After all the dumb jokes I've read on here, for some reason that one made me laugh. When you tell that joke you have to squint one eye, and hold your arm in a bend in front of you.

Moving to Indiana
Thanks for the sugestions guys. That's too bad about TC, it would be nice to have a place to go that doesn't freeze in the winter. I guess there are a couple of power plant lakes in IL that would be a good drive but still do-able. Farmersburg is not that far from TH is it?

could use some recommendations on waders
I'm not in mine more than 30 days a year, but getting insulated waders for the winter time, which you can't stand to wear in the summer makes no sense to me. I have some that are good in the summer, then I just wear under armor or long handles when it gets cold. Maybe I'm missing something.

Moving to Indiana
Thanks guys, I went to Green Sullivan last summer, and it was really cool. I've heard about Turtle Creek, someone told me they killed the grass and the fishing was horrible now.

BPS ProQualifier BC Reel - $69 New!
no this reel and a PQ rod combo is only $10 more than the extreme combo No, I'm saying an extreme rod is normally $99 by itself.
-
Rod recommendation
As far as the length of the rod goes - I'm 5' 8" and I understand what you are saying, but it is more about the length of the handle than the overall length of the rod. I have several 7' rods, but they have the medium length handles. With the really long handles, it feels like I am holding them out on the end of my arm all the time to keep them off my belly. On the other hand I know some short armed guys like the long handles when using them for jigs and plastics, and they hook the handle up under their arm. I will agree with a previous statement, and figure out what you will use it for and then buy accordingly. There are a couple of good posts on the best of that will help you fit the type of rod to the technique.

BPS ProQualifier BC Reel - $69 New!
So you could get this reel and an extreme rod for $130? That's only $30 more than the rod is normally. The last thing I need is another combo...but that is hard to pass up. The good thing about the pq's is they go on sale fairly often.
