  1. Why KVD? He knows the food chain. KVD for the most part, uses baits that simulate the food source. Find the bait and find the bass!!
  2. Well being from Texas, I'd like to know what tournament directors are still behind the 8 ball on fish care. I promise ya, a TD won't get another nickle from me as long as they have big issues. So why is it so hard to share what trails you speak of? When your water levels drop back down to 40-90 ft low again, are you gonna blame the tournies or mother nature for slow fishing like it was prior to the massive rains creating new lakes? So whats your theory for poor fishing prior to big tournaments? Can't say the tourney angler caused that in the 80-90;s now can ya? Old lakes going dry was good thing, it allowed years on new cover to grow, finally rains came filled a new lake up. How many times have you fished Fork to say tournaments have killed it?
  3. What trails and tournaments are the ones you speak of? Lets get all your facts out there. Bass Champs isn't a factor, team tournament with two live wells to use and they educate their anglers, plus give them live well additives before the tournament free. Then of course, you don't have alot of options in south Texas. And live well crowding is only a issue on a handful of lakes that are individual tournaments that have co boaters and one well per each angler. Please, post the number of anglers and trails you speak of, its easy to post facts, you have tournaments and results because you fished them as you said. Bass n Bucks, Champs, Media, BLT, and allot of others are TEAM trails with 5 fish in two live wells. Not an issue. Whats your facts for calling a lot of us NAIVE? Seems to me, until you post some fact on what TX Trails have issues, your just strirring the pot.
  4. Its hard to follow, we don't get dedicated coverage like other sports. You have to know who's on loan to who for what cup qualifications, is this league play or first leg of some sort of euro cup play. and theres more cups to be won that really don't mean much other than for pride. So you never know if they go all out or rest players.
  5. I think its lame to pass the buck. Those are my fish in the livewell for up to 8-9 hours. Easy to blame an organization that only handles your fish for short time for the dead fish. And, 80% of TX tournaments are team, thats one limit that has the use of 2 wells, again, not really an issue, The one rule that needs more teeth in it is the dead fish penality. Half pound don't cut it. Needs to be half the dead fishs weight. ie....5 lb dead fish would only count 2.5 lbs, so the bigger the fish, the bigger the penalty. Knock on Catts head, I have never had a tourney bass die!
  6. Its made to sound like Beeswax creek gets 90% of all tournaments and thats not close. and..... Some tournaments do have live release boat(s) working, some don't. Most ramps have cement and some kind of support on the side of the ramp to prevent washing out, which is made of chunk rock alot of times. Ramps normally have algae growth on them, that alone draws bait and makes them good to fish whether you had tournaments or not to "stock the area". 2007 classic wasn't won in Beeswax creek. 2007 had grass all over the lake, but since then, rains have washed most grass out. Beeswax had more than other areas as pointed out at this time of the year. And as seen in the last classic on the Red River, alot elected to stay out of the locks, why? to maximize fishing time. Ya think KVD didn't think of less travel in the morning cold, he got max fishing time, and didn't get frost bite getting to his waters. Pretty dam smart considering he was on fish and knew how to get them to bite. Too many tournaments won in the Elite series away from the ramps or stocked areas. KVD is a 3 time classic winner cause he's that smart.
  7. There is a risk associated with all things in life. A guy died on the mound pitching in a baseball game. MLB still exists. No different in space travel, we still go to the moon, flying a plane, or driving a car, or training wild animals. The "crocidile man" died doing what he loved, working with "wild" animals. Prayers to the family, they knew the risk she took everyday, thats what made her special to her family, she was one of the most respected trainers in the business.
  8. Kudos to Glenn, too cool, any interview associated with the Super Bowl of Bassing would be a memory for life.
  9. Good points 520. Cut my teeth in the 60's on Amistad as a boy, Dad coached and ran baitstand at Comstock. All lakes have cycles, you could show the cycle of droughts that plagued those 3 lakes that have been mentioned for kicking out 40 lb 5 bass sacks on Choke, Amistad, and Falcon. With that being said, you could also show the BassChamps results 2003 and prior and you will not see 1/2 the 5 fish limits you see now or even one third of the 20 lbs sacks, much less 30-40 lbs sacks. And you can't blame BASS or FLW or state run tournaments prior to those years for the fishing being so so then. So why was the fishing so so then? 40-90 ft of missing water on those 3 lakes might explain it with no cover for fry to survive. Mother nature filled those 3 lakes after 10-15years of new growth, then filling them with massive rains of 2004 created brand new lakes. And as for pressure, when those 3 lakes support half of what Rayburn and TB do annually, then you might have something to talk about. Team tournaments are not issues, 5 fish spread out in 2 wells, not an issue. BASS eliminated co anglers, no longer crowding issue with the use of both livewells. FLW, still has an issue, angler and co angler, even if Co anglers limit is 3 fish, it don't help the boater with 5 fish limit. So really, what tournaments on Falcon have 200 boats and fighting for the use of one livewell, by the way, thats the only problem with a tournament on big fish lakes, is trying to cram 5 big fish in one livewell when you have co boaters.
  10. What trails in south Texas. Media don't fish south Texas, and the big boys are BassChamps. What two boat trails do you get on Falcon, be real easy to show a bunch since you fish them. You should be telling this to your director, he's the one fishing 7 events on 3 bodies of water. Bass Champs is only 5 events, so name the other trails.
  11. Rick Barnes is a top notch coach. There have been a handfull of 20 game seasons prior to Barnes arriving in Austin. Rick Barnes has changed that. Hook'em Horns! and go Big XII
  12. Sorry for your loss Mike.
  13. or, a weightless senko
  14. Its official, this last cold spell dropped lake temps enough to kill some shad. Main lake crappie fishermen reported this morning. Its officially, jerk bait season. Happened on a few other lakes in the area as well.
  15. This now bothers me. We have a citizen that has copied a weapon made famous from 9/11. Who else will copy this?
  16. Commercial plane on the ground in Utah because of bomb threat.
  17. Breaking news, Its being reported, this was the IRS building and the pilot that is now suspected of setting his own house on fire prior to take off.
  18. Now being able to share the passions my dad bestowed upon me from the outdoors with another generation, my grandson. Threads like this make me miss my dad!
  19. A cessna type plane has hit a building in Austin. Current report, not terrorist or any type of a threat at this time.
  20. Whitney has been hurt numerous times with the Golden Algae blooms that have plagued the Brazos river system off and on for the last 5 years. Major fish kills in the rivers above Whitney. Possum Kingdom also is up river and experiences the same. Meredith and Whitney was the big dog in Texas for years with the majority of top 50 smallies from those two lakes primarily, I believe Whitney held the record the longest, now Meredith own that honor. On a side note, smallies are showing up at OH Ivie and doing well. I'd have to say Texoma is the better lake for smallies. How are the smallies in the Devil river arm of Amistad?
  21. I predicted Duckett to win because its his home waters and he's proven on that lake, he can get a kicker every day with a jig bite in June, well this is prespawn this go around, and females love protien, and a jig represents that. I'd love Ike to get another, Gary Klien to get his first, Hackney would be okay, also think Alton Jones is deadly in cold weather with a jig as well. WIll KVD get that jerk bait going? sexy shad? Weather reports for upcoming classic looks cold and wet. any weather updates from you locals down there?
  22. That conversation of who is fishing our waters, "ours" being tax paying fishermen come up once a month. I don't see how Perry could sell that behind the publics back, but he got away with it. THat lottery has been a center of conversation for alot of us. Truthfully, for years, I wanted nothing more than to fish this lake at least once. Still like to, but not pressing as it was.
  23. under new management. Squaw Creek was a power plant lake that got shut down after 9/11, guess you know what kinda of power plant is was. Squaw Creek was one of those special lakes in Texas that you haven't heard about cause they closed the lake to everyone due to possible terrorist target. In the mean time, Gov. Rick Perry decided since it was closed to the public, that he decided to sell all the land to the power company, which meant the lake is no longer public also. Which upset alot of taxpayers. It was our funds who created and stocked this hidden jewel. After all these years, its gonna re-open, and to those from Socal, its kinda like Barret opening up after being closed for years and years. Squaw was another one of those lakes created when I was gone in the Navy and I haven't had the chance to fish it yet, but have heard about it for years.
  24. Those creeks look like great areas to check for spawning. They also, guessing, look to be northen shores, which means that the sun will warm the northern shores fast and will protect those banks from cold north winds as well. Like the areas Mike shaded for certain times of the year. My eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, looks like the satelite shows colors, like light and dark spots, so if thats true, those thats a nice point that mike shaded to left of the dam. not a bad picture from satelite. I could work with it.
  25. Catching alot seems to hook alot of people. Target easy species while they are easy. Crappie, white bass, hybrids, stripers, all easy fish to target year around. White bass will or should be in full run up rivers and creeks in NE Tx. Thats an easy day to catch 100 fish in short work.
