Do Pro interviews help recreational fishermen
I don't consider Bill Dance or Al Linder Pros. Pros in the effect that they fish competitively anymore, therefore, they are more apt to give some actual knowledge that could help. What I get from most pros are common knowledge. Its been printed and talked about all the time. Every once in awhile, the camera zooms in on a new bait, but that doesn't mean the pro is gonna give it up until the company is ready to put that bait into production. Matt

2007 Classic Winner
I was looking at the advantage that some of the federation anglers might have given the fact that they just fished on Neely. Bassmaster has dubbed Home town boy Lane as the favorite. Note, that no one in history has won the classic on his home waters. Matt

Inventions etc
In the late 80's, most scents were spray types but not aerosol propelled. They got very messy. I cut the bottom of some 4-5 inch round tupperware bowls leaving about 4 inches in depth. I then cut some sponges to fit in the bottom that are about 3/4 in thick. I took an old tupperware pitcher lid top that had the button to press on top to release the lid so you could pore from the pitcher and used it as my lid. I also glued another sponge to the top of the lid. I use a 1/4'' rod that was heated to smooth a small groove for your line to lay on so no sharp edges were present. I glued one part of the velcro on the bottom and one to my boat carpet, thus it wouldn't move and was very stable. In principal, you just laid you worm on top of the sponge and press the lid down, and this applied the baitmait juice very easy and fast with no mess ever. To this day, its one of the easiest methods to apply scents that aren't propelled by aerosols. Matt.

Interview with a bass....what would you ask?
Did you really bite at Mac's white jig or did he snag you? Where do you stand on this East Coast vs West Coast bass rivalry? Is there any 20 lb bass in Georgia? Is it true that when Bass hear the words KVD, they go into FEAR MODE?

To Tell or Not To Tell
A little side note from Takahiro Omori as I read on the ***. To Tell or Not To Tell: According to Tak, what he's learned since winning the Classic is to not listen to any Dock talk. Tak said that listening to the other pros after a day on the water has messed him up. This year, if you look in Tak's boat, he has a note taped to his rod boxes saying, "no dock talk". Matt.

Looking at old Posts and.......
I emailed Darren yesterday. Seems like last year, him and a buddy was gearing up to hit a local team trail. He was jacked up about it. We all were waiting on reports. Cgs2004 and Will also, have thought about them also. Was curious to hear how the his college bass team did last year. Matt

A company that REALLY doesn't support Soldiers
I could understand them saying "we don't ship to APO addresses", but the rest is uncalled for. I hope it costs them some business. Matt

Looking at old Posts and.......
Was reading LBH's battle cry for Beat Charlie Moore emails and was looking at some members who have been absent. Was wondering were DDbasser has been. He was class act, and enjoyed his fishing and hunting stories. Who else has been AWOL (absent) for awhile that you guys miss? Matt.

lake cumberland
Stormcar, Welcome to the forum. The news of Wolf Dam is just now surfacing. Since this is breaking news to the community and surrounding areas, I'm sure the BFL is also just learning about this. I would expect that this event will be moved soon, as to allow for anglers to make plans accordingly. The impact will be horrific for all those that enjoy this lake. Its estimated that 90% of the ramps will be unuseable, with the low waters, temps will rise and large fish kills are already predicted, and most marinas will be high and dry. I can't blame them, the dam is one mile long and the stress crack is in a bad place, very low on the dam. Tenn and Kentucky would suffer greatly if the dam gives away. The dam was built in 1950. Super Bowl XLI
History is full of teams with high powered offenses, and so-so defenses and no rings to show!!!!!! Matt

The Tuna has had enough!
jb, I don't see how an owner who gave us three championships is a bad thing. The Saints have been trying to get the job done for 40 years and don't have a single ring to show for their 40 years. Parcels inherited Quincy Carter and was 10-6, then during training camp, the druggie was fired, and that left Bill with bringing in old man time, thus 6-10, then he got Drew, who had the best stats of his life in Buffalo, but they decided he didn't protect the ball anybetter there, than he did in NE, so we got the fumbling statue of Dreadsoe. Bill is tough on his coaches and players, but taking 4 different teams to the playoffs and two of those to the superbowl speaks loudly when you compare how many coaches don't ever make the playoffs or win not one but two superbowls. Jerry has given me the right to boast with the steeler and 49ers, the only teams to have won 5. Matt.

Super Bowl XLI
The Colts defense only proved that twice this year. And 5 attempts in the second half by the Pats shows nothing considering that the pats were close a to hundred in the first half. They didn't try to establish the running game in the second half. Matt

Super Bowl XLI
I think Peytons big game problems has been against better than average defenses. The Bears defense has been suspect since the loss of Tony Harris and Safety Mike Brown. But looked in form this weekend. Will the Bears be able to rattle Manning? If they do, it will be long day for the Colts. I don't really have a dog in the hunt this year. Peyton is and will be hall of famer after its said and done with the current prolific career he's having thus far. Since the AFC has been dominating the NFC lately, I'll take the Bears only for putting a halt to the gossip of the NFC being so weak. Which by record, they have> Da Bears, 30-27 Hookem Matt

2007 Classic Winner
Mobass, I like your attitude and thought process of the old wylie vets that will be swinging for the fences. Will it be a new winner or repeat winner? Matt
-
2007 Classic Winner
Some pretty good theories and possible game plans. Since this is the Super Bowl of BASS, and points aren't in the mix, do you swing for the fences with LM's? or try for the more aggressive spot to get a limit? I think swinging for the fences is the only way to go, but making the cut for the final day is also key. Matt

water tempatures?
There are two types of fish on most East Texas Lakes. I try to fish for the ones that aren't effected as much by a drastic temperature changes. 1) is the resident shallow water bass that lives shallow year around and 2) the deep water resident that would be considered a bass that migrates, moves around. The shallow water bass is the one that is effected the most by severe fronts, while the deeper bass adjusts by moving in the water column vertically, up or down. The biggest key in Winter time is to stay on top of a food source. Bass that live deep most of the year will stay deep with the shad populations and migrate as the shad do. Rarely will threadfin shad be found in shallows with temps in low 50's. Bluegills and such also go deep for the winter. The majority of bait goes deep in the winter. The easiest way to locate warm water deep is by finding schools of shad, they will be on the edge of the thermocline. If bait are schooling at 28 ft, look at a map that intercepts contours and structures in that range. Bass will be waiting and positioned in that zone on bridge pilings, trees, road beds, tank dams, rock out croppings, points, creek channel or anything at that depth. Bass suspend alot in the winter, but are easiest to find after I know what depths the shad are at. The shad will show you the warmiest water. I only go shallow after 3-4 days of warming trend. Matt.

The link inside the book showed www.thelakeforkhandbook.com . It isn't coming up. It was published in 2005 and was authored by Doug Moore, a retired guide on Fork. Will get the phone number from inside cover later today. Also will search other areas for info. Matt
