  1. Muddy, When something keeps me off the water, I'm known to hang out at the motel pool practicing casts, testing new cranks to see if they run true, checking out the action that a rod may impart to my baits. I check for sink rates on different set ups. I check out how a new swim baits swims, or how a spinner bait falls. The most important thing to me is bait placement, accuracy. Putting your bait tight on the stump the first time is key. A cast that splashes down a foot an half short can spook a fish, where as one on his head may cause the reaction bite. So when fishing is not possible, practice presentations, learn new baits. Matt.
  2. Favorite spring time spawing bait is anything white that floats. Favorite post spawn bait is the buzz bait. Favorite summer time bait is 10 in or larger plum power worm Favorite Fall bait is the Bunker colored Storm Swim bait-5" Favorite winter bait is Oldham's Jig. Matt
  3. Cameron, The Plum power worm is my normal summer time bait. Except I like them about 16 inches. I love the Gene Larew Fire and Ice about an hour before the sun peaks up, and sometime the Tequilla works well in that time frame. When are the you going to start the weekly night tourney out of Fork Marina this year? How are your brush piles? Did they pay off for you last year. I never fished outside of the marina until last years BBS. I weighed one on the last day and had an hour left, so I ventured out to the humps just outside the marina, wow, was I surprised at what I graphed and caught in a short period. You don't have to venture very far do you? Matt

Good looking bass!!!! Do other guys that you have seen procuce multiple bass regularly? Or is this just a tough lake to pattern? Maybe its not a slump, but just a tough lake during the cold season. Matt.
  5. I like to have a variety of cranks, at this time of the year, we have three types of fish to target, pre, post, and spawners. I like a crank that will suspend and stay at the running depth. Majority of bass aren't in chase mode, they are looking for very easy meals as to not spend to much energy. As the spawn progress, the fish up lake will be more aggressive than the downlake bass because normally, those fish are still waiting to spawn. Traps, stick baits, and shallow running cranks should do the trick. The key is to vary your retrieve until you have a few hook ups to get some feedback on. Some fish will nail it on a pause, some will nail it after you deflect off some type of cover and pausing it, some on a steady retrieve. Once you have found the way they like it, you may be able to use that same cadence on other sections of the lake. matt.
  6. My Dad introduced me to "pluggin" with a topwater. A Lucky 13 to be exact. With the upcoming post-spawn bite fixing to be on like Donkey Kong in the southern states. A PopR or buzz bait might do the trick. Good luck Matt
  7. I have broken 3 Tru-Turns on hooksets in Cali. I also had 4 break break off with good bass on in Cali in the late 80's. All were broken in the "Turn". I gave all my Tru-Turns to my buddy who introduced me to them. Won't use them ever again. Matt
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but normally, and the key work is normal to me, isn't the larger treble normally in the front and the smaller one in the back? A trap swims when retrieved at a higher rate with the nose down, thus the body protects the larger hook from fouling. Any thoughts? Matt
  9. The FLW Stren Series has landed the largest bass ever caught in a FLW event. Amistad gets the honor of producing Texas' ShareLunker #435. 15. I like to use a carolina weight in the bed instead of a bullet. I also like to enlarge/ream the hole just a little bit bigger. With that type of weight, I like to use floating baits such as StrikeKing 3X plastics. The carolina weight allows the bait to float free off bottom, with very subtle twitches, it looks like the lizzard is nose diving the eggs on bottom. Very key to watch the bass, she will dictate the area she is most aggressively protecting. Another bait that works well is a floating minnow type bait, Rapalas work well and so does the Jap. high end baits. Same principal, allow the bait to float free off the bottom a few inches and twitch it, looks the same as a floating plastic bait, but most stick baits have 3 trebles which makes for a sure hookset when bass are just picking it up to move it out of the nest. I like the back treble to have white feathers. Matt.
  16. How does one go about replacing the carpet in the boat? What is the best way to take care of the hull on older boats? What products to restore the hull if it is oxidized? Matt

  20. Welcome to the forum. If you look back on some of the other pages in General fishing, you will find tons of spawn info. Also if you look back one year, I'm sure you will find the same threads from last year that have been asked before. If you don't find what your looking for, someone will be around that will.
