i prefer them while fishin wood personally. yes, they would work in weeds, but i think there are better suited lures for fishing weeds that are in the square bill depth range (ie: spinnerbait/fluke)
  2. knipex are the bees knees. youll never have to buy another pair again, and will be able to hand them down im sure. quality cutters. pricey, but as bass fisherman we know "ya get what ya pay for"
  3. i managed to lasso a larry while jerkbaitin one day in the early spring. it was early march probably 40 degree air temp but i had the fever. went out and was throwin a suspending rogue and catchin pickeral and stuff. finally lay into something and it was fighting decent, get it to the boat and i somehow managed to wrap my line around the fish once, and thne hook my line. ill never be able to pull that off again.
  4. of course its during finals week!
  5. out of im sure tens of thousands of fishing reels the people on this site have used, no one else has had this issue?
  6. Hello all, Recently I took my reel apart (a cardiff 400) and put it back together. I never really took it apart, all i did was pop the one side plate off with the handle in tact to access the spool. It was just 3 screws, and those were the only parts that came off the reel, and they went right back to where they belong. There were no extra parts, but I'm assuming something didnt line up properly when i put the spool back in and put the side plate back on. There is no noise on the retrieve, only on the cast. It is not a hissing noise, but more of a grinding noise i think. If anyone could help me it would be great
  7. wow that asaro is about right...to bad i live about 100 miles from the closest academy!!!

they work for all bass species, i have caught some big perch, crappie, and pickeral on them as well. they imitate many types of forage quite well with their erratic action, and a great all around bait!
  9. oh ok, good thing i saw this page before i PM'ed you glenn. i was thinking i was doing something wrong!
  10. Hello All, I'm looking for a decently priced (>$120) low profile reel with a huge line a capacity. I checked the search function, and apparently it doesn't work for me. I tried things that i know would come up (typed in the title of a thread) and it didn't work. I was hoping someone could help me out. By large capacity I mean 12/160 or so. 5.2:1 would be ideal. I'm actually looking to use it for light musky stuff (9 inch sluggos, magnum flukes, light spinners) so I would like to have at least 120yds of 50lb braid on it. It will probably double as a cranking reel when I need it for a tourney. Thanks
  11. ive got a sticker of a smallie in my back window and wear a fishoflauge hat just about everywhere i go. im normally tinkerin with, or talking about something pertaining to fishing at pretty much all times. i dont purposely flaunt the fact i'm a fisherman, but i just can help myself from showing something i'm so passionate about.
  12. i wish i could find even 1/5 the amount of lures i lost!
  13. wish i would get mine!
  14. love my mossback green lenses from solarbat!

a few sites are running sales on them right now so go look around. you can get em for 11 bucks
  16. is anyone else wondering what this has to do with canoes? id say work on your reaction time to get them from swallowing the hook. maybe try a wider gap hook or a bulkier trailer
  17. i like big single tail grubs, great swimming action
  18. have had decent luck with them, ive got em with silver flake in them (senko type bait) i like to throw them when the water is a little off colored around wood
  19. caught a snag once in a lake i fish in deep water. kept it tight and started crankin on it and it broke loose. brought it in and it was part of a flannel shirt.....didnt want to imagine what it was attached to. caught a few snapping turtles, boated a few rocks, couple bed springs
  20. i wouldnt say we use to large a bait. i mean its a different game fishing for numbers and fishing for big fish. you rarely see guys fishing the delta for 10 pounders with micro pond magic spinnerbaits. my buddy caught a 5 pounder last week here in jersey on a 7 inch soft tail phantom while muskie fishing. only bass he caught all day. i was fishin the same boat for bass and i landed 10+ bass on various soft baits ranging from 5-7 inches in size, but clearly a much smaller profile than a phantom
  21. quite a few......... pumpkin, green pumpkin, motor oil, black, black and blue, blue and white, watermelon red flake, and purple. that covers my dropshot/ shakey worms as well as my t-rig/ senko selection
  22. its definitly tough gettting out of your comfort zone.......but in the long run it will make you a well rounded fisherman. read every article on this site, you will gain so much confidence you wont know what to do with it. dont let it overwhelm you though. keep in mind things like the forage base in the areas you are fishing. depth and water clarity also play big roles. i know you like your worms, alot of the situations you throw worms in you can probably throw a jig. tie a jig on, eventually you will get bit. then youll get bit again. and again. and again and again and again. youll start gaining confidence quickly once the first few come.
  23. i just reel into my fish. that is, when i get bite on a crank (or anything with trebles for that matter) i tend to just reel down, let the rod load up and what i call "lean into it". i dont really "lean" foward, but i kinda just bring the rod back in a smooth motion but with a good bit of force. i would venture to say i am about 85 percent hook up and land with my cranks (and jerkbaits, and lipless, and poppers/walkers) note: watch guys like kvd (cranknig king in my eyes), and rick clunn throw a crankbait and you will know what i mean.
  24. well just got back from a smallie extravaganza, verdict is...................wait for it...............EVERYTHING!!!! haha no but seriously i threw firetiger, natural perch, chrome blue, and red craw. caught them on everyone. figured i would test out the colors i had after reading this thread
