  1. No doubt that the heavier a weight is (pegged or unpegged) it can affect a hook set -
  2. I've never seen chipped paint to be a problem with bass eating a jig - some of my best are mostly paintless -
  3. Welcome and inline spinners will catch you lots of bass.
  4. Case plastics Big Momma - 11" segmented - easy to shorten - best worm between 6" and 12" I know of
  5. Fished it on Johns Lake central Florida - 2lber on first cast on a very windy day had to quit in 15 min.
  6. under 10# but still a good fish
  7. I don't care if you bed fish - I don't bed fish - it's just my personal ethos - I have many friends that bed fish and we are still friends.
  8. check out the steep spots and where they taper off or funnel in to shallower depths
  9. zman baits routinely last for a 100 fish or so - that's cheap fishing
  10. - I have a butt seat to balance against the last several yrs. (since passing 70)
  11. TIME ON THE WATER - Make that time on the water paying attention to details -
  12. trick worm is in a class by itself - catches big fish in Florida - catches fish in northern waters - more versatile.
  13. 1/2 oz. leverage in chart./white
  14. unless it is a fat plastic I've never seen a need for anything other than a straight shank hook - #2 to 5/0 - 6# mono to 65# braid I know of no other hook that is as effective. Although I did have a love affair for years with the tru turn hooks just don't see them much anymore.
  15. A lot of good comments - I would add to learn to back reel - amazingly big fish can be landed back reeling.
  16. gurgling on top is a deadly method in pre-spawn
  17. If the visibility was better it would be hard to beat float n fly
  18. Ahh Frogs - the most fun there is
  19. medlocks are very snag resistant but they're big
  20. Topwater - walking bait, popper, frog, injured minnow type with one or two propeller blades, buzz bait - whatever you can find or already own - dark bait if water is dark - light bait if water is clear. It will be fun and can produce the biggest bass in the area. Don't be intimidated throw it all over the pond they will find it.
  21. It boggles my mind that anyone can buy a boat that can go 40 to 70 mph and take it out on the waters without any training - I'm not a big one for over regulation but after many years on fresh and salt water I've seen far too many near misses, accidents and some deaths. Even a canoe paddler should know the rules of the road.
  22. I believe there are no stripers in Grand and I know some credit that for its outstanding fishing. I last fished it in the 60's and the fishing was outstanding - we had a number of spots over 3lbs and several lm's over 5. All we had were 6" worms of various colors rigged with splitshots and 5/0 weedless hooks.
  23. I own most of them and in calm water I'm not too picky but if there is wind - from a light breeze to a strong blow I have a furbit tied on - it is pricey and has its problems but from Florida to up north, shallow weedy or deep rocky clear water, it is absolutely a deadly deadly lure.
  24. I've fished with lots of kids over the years - small hooks and lures or baits of course - the most important (I feel) is to be somewhere they catch something no matter the species.
  25. My personal mantra is to not give a hoot what some other folks are doing but to try and figure things out in my own way and time - much more satisfying - and it will make you a better angler.
