  1. Youtube? There are guys fishing on youtube? Huh. what is youtube
  2. Cabelas has been family owned - now it won't be
  3. Smaller bass will blow up and not get hooked - on decent sized fish if the frog is not there set the hook - most of my frog fish have it down inside their mouth - 80% or better -
  4. We fished them on a single ewg hook with a screw-in clear plastic nose cone from the folks that made the skinny dipper - used them on breezy days - horny toad on calm days - if I couldn't find a plastic nose cone I used a 1/32 bullet weight - having any kind of nose cone brings them through stuff much better than any other method.
  5. I use to do this religiously - helped me immeasurably - don't do it any longer and it shows in my lower catch rate - hmmm maybe should start again.
  6. I think that would be true for most of them
  7. If it is catching fish at that pace I could care less about durability
  8. I always go with - the bass weighs whatever the guy who caught it says it weighs - unless there is money on the line

  10. first hook cut out of me was L&S jointed minnow in 1951 - since then I've learned other ways to get hooks out but - you fish you're going to get hooked
  11. Ned rig is not for weeds or brush - one of the things it does is catch bass - lots of bass - on "nothing banks" - the Hibdon's won tournaments fishing nothing banks - we all love to fish cover but plain open shorelines hold many more fish than we suspect.
  12. Finesse as mentioned above - light lines and long casts also as above - but don't be afraid to try topwaters and swimbaits - big ones on both if you have the tackle. Clear water for myself is usually about finesse or big baits - they may not eat a big bait but invariably they will have to look which gives you a look at their location.
  13. Absolute #1 - Have hook/lure in water
  14. I have two calcutta b's over 15 yrs old and function like new - they are bullet proof - I also have my original 5000 Ambassador - 50 yrs. old - good reel but not in the shimano calcutta class
  15. I like soft tip heavy action rod - 6.5 gears and when I set I am reeling and don't stop
  16. I really like the Case Plastics Big Momma - 11" straight tail
  17. we counted down - using jigs - it didn't seem to be that big of a deal -
  18. Have caught bass and crappie in muddy water with essentially no visibility on a black 1/16th oz. beetle when nothing else would work.
  19. If there is some breeze always the optimum furbit - if the wind is blowing same thing - calm water any and all of them work for me. If there is some breeze always the optimum furbit - if the wind is blowing same thing - calm water any and all of them work for me. Breezy or windy day optimum furbit - absolutely deadly - calm days any of the others work for me
  20. Oh no - we use to call that our honey hole when I lived in sofla - 100 fish in 100 casts happened more than once during dry spells
  21. rainy day frogs are deadly in cover and over open water
  22. Part of the job - you fish with lures you're gonna get hooked
  23. All of the above mentioned cranks work - I didn't see any spro's mentioned - they have done a very good job from shallow to deep - as has strike king - if you have confidence in a particular lure try more of their models
  24. it would be good for catfish
  25. frog, senko, frog, original rapala, frog, small wake bait, frog
