  1. National Pros fish such a wide spectrum of lakes and rivers, they might need to have that kind of selection to meet what's most effective on that respective body of water. The rest of us fish much more local and are often influenced by what we read in the rags and see on TV and do what the sponsors hope we will do, buy stuff. I wish I had more discipline. I would have less than half of the product I now "store" because I revert back to what works and what I have the most confidence in. My goal this year is to SIMPLIFY my fishing. Don't get me wrong, buying a new lure or color sometimes creates some excitement to try it on the next trip. :-/
  2. What ever you get, it should be a 5 to 1 ratio or your wrists will pay at the end of the day. Quality cranking reels seem to run closer to $200.00. BPS has a Pro Qualifier at 5 to 1 and I hear it's a good performing reel. I sprung for a Revo Winch and love it. Why don't you trust your Pflueger ? Oh well, good luck.
  3. For true flipping you are pulling line back with the off hand and then giving it back during the pendulum swing, like a single haul when fly casting. The longer rod allows you to reach further. The longer rod allows for more line to be taken up on a hook set and if you fish braid or super heavy line you can swing a fish a bit easier. I use a Lamiglas Certified Pro XFT806 for flipping and the 764 for pitchin. BASS set a length rule in the early days for rods so the 7-6 became the standard. Once rod lockers could hold big sticks the 8 footers became much more popular.
  4. Okay, I have been a Ducks fan (raised in Eugene) since the days of Dan Fouts. Things have changed. Now the kids need a trainer, a tutor, an agent and a bail bondsman. Sad. :'(
  5. It's about time. You can thank the fans of PBR and NHL. They put alot of pressure on Direct to get the deal done. The Outdoor Channel is good but VERSUS is a leg up. Now I get to hear Roland say " Oh son !" thirty times a week. ;D
  6. I don't know that one of my buddies and I throw different baits to elicit a strike from one or the other. We have, a buzz bait in front and a spinnerbait in the back. When I partner up and we are looking for fish or pre-fishing for an event we never throw the same bait until we find what the fish want and how they want it. That's pretty fundemental. Even if we narrow it to a bait type and size, we still try to dial in a color and presentation. You just need to use a bait that follows the rate of speed you are covering water with.
  7. I picked one up the year they were released via a buddy at pro-staffer price. It's been my jerkbait reel. They cast well and there isn't a reel that is much easier to palm. It's held up very well. If that 79 dollar deal is for real it's a buy. My local tackle shop had one day deal on Revo S righties for 69.97. That's a deal !
  8. I have two, one 6.4 and one 7.1 and got one for my son-in-law. I like them alot and at 100.00 you can fish it and if you don't like it, sell it for what you paid for it.
  9. Don't disgard pork ! Now is the time to use it. Pork is a great choice when water is 55 degrees and colder. The #11 for jigs to 3/8 oz and the #1 for 3/8 to 3/4 oz. I use the #1 on a 3/8 Booyah jig for a slow fall and bass hang on to pork. It's uncanny. if you keep it moist/wet you can re-use many times over. To get it off the hook, rotate it 180 degrees and it should come off much easier. Put it back in the jar with the solution it was packed in and seal the jar tight.
  10. If you check at Wal-Mart they have a sympathy card for that very loss. Sorry man, broke a couple myself over the years.
  11. It's in a hard copy form at tackle dealers.
  12. You can always use line as balast under your new premium line of choice. Find a kid who wants to bass fish and gift him your old spinnerbaits if they have some use left in them. Same goes for any fishing gear. They won't forget your kindness.
  13. The Asaro is a Summit with a few less bearings. I have a Summit and it is a very good reel. It was my first 7 to 1 ratio reel. You got a great price. They are small and if you have small hands it's a great match. It will handle lighter test lines well. I used mine for jerkbaits. Enjoy !
  14. I also have fished both brands and like both. Yamamoto has a specific color I love so I lean toward that brand. Yum is more durable and less expensive though.
  15. I think chartreuse is about visibility and contrast. It's often paired with a black, blue, copper or green back. What we see in the package and what the color becomes in the reduced light of stained water are different. It's not a productive color in clear water for me unless it's a spinnerbait with painted blades for smallmouth. Even that scenario requires cloudy conditions. The color that puzzles me is red, red orange. It's hot in many parts of the country and a dog in my region. I don't get it. :-/
  16. Pick up a Gamakatzu catalog and it will show you what hook for what catigory of plastic and photos of rigging options. It will answer your questions with photos.
  17. Yes. It works for Pop R's as well. Check your line fairly often.
  18. Hooligan, You lost me ? Reese jumped from a company that stood by him and you mention Carrot Sticks. Reese fished Lamiglas since as far back as 1996 or further before endorsing his new line with W & M. It's a business and Skeet's making money. More lower to him. Sorry, got off the subect. XMG50 704P.
  19. The line is stacking a little to the left on the spool. Custom painted reels ? Someone has too much cash and waaayyy to much time on their hands. It would match my boat though.
  20. Nice bait. Chartreuse willow blades on cloudy days for smallmouth.
  21. The two previous replies are well stated. Some anglers say the slower parabolic action of glass allows the fish to take a bait deeper. I can't deny or confirm that. But, I can say glass rods are awesome when fishing treble hook lures. The attributes of glass help keep fish from tearing off. Glass absorbs the stresses of a fish that jumps or surges and the slow recovery keeps gentle tension on the fish. I saw my ratio of fish landed on crankbaits really improve since making the transition. It's well worth the investment.
  22. Love Hula Grubs for prespawn smallmouth. 1/4 football heads with exposed hooks. That works to 20 feet. Heavy wind or deeper requires 3/8 to 1/2 ounce. I like 1/4 oz Lucky Strike shakee football heads for Yum Craw Papi baits.
