Serious football question
The way I was taught is this; Audible the play to the side where you have the numbers advantage. It's not always the short side, but if you're in a balanced set, a lot of the times it is just based on Ds trying to cheat a little.

Orange Bowl
Well at least I was right about the adjustments that would be made. and they were there too, just too many mistakes in execution. I love the whole argument of one dimensionality killed us. Tech has won games where they put up 400-500 yard on offense with < 2 completions. The correct adjustment last night was not to pass because Iowa was running a tampa 2 which brought the CB right up on our receivers. Running a sweep gets the ball on the edge with the playside a-back arc blocking the LB and WR taking the CB. this worked for the most part. The issue was that our blocking scheme for most other plays incorporates a read system, and when the blockers are misreading who they need to block or are completely whiffing on cutblocks your play isn't going to work. period. no matter what offense you run, if you miss blocks you're screwed. I don't know what it was against Iowa, Miami, and LSU(last year) that caused missed assignments, but none of those teams tried anything different than every other team. I guess everyone will fall back on the common factor of time to prepare, though I don't know how that makes our players miss easy blocks.

Orange Bowl
right now, Tech's just not attacking on the cut blocks like they need to. Watch for an adjustment to the a-back sweep play and midline option to keep the DE off-balanced.

Orange Bowl
Tonight, my Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets play Iowa in the Orange Bowl. 8-) and for the second time this year, I am not in Miami to watch them play. :'( It'll be a good game to watch, so tune in.

Fly fishing rocks
that looks fun. I've never caught a fish on a flyrod. Hope to take care of that this spring.

Thinking about going out on Lanier tommorrow
carburetor was gunked up. Tried from the shore and my dock, but couldn't get into deep enough water. Mostly threw a jig, but gave a jerkbait a try. no luck with either but couldn't get cover deeper than 5-6 ft deep from the shore. It was better than watching today's bowls I suppose.

Thinking about going out on Lanier tommorrow
So I've been stumped from the bank here lately at the neighborhood pond, so I'm itching to catch some fish. My dad and I were thinking about heading up to Lanier to get out on the water. I'll be fishing from a runabout so no trolling motor or fish/depth finder. Conditions will be clear with 50 degree water. High of 37. My plan is to try jigging spoons off of steep cliffs/in creek channels on the North side of the lake trying to guesstimate depth based on fall to around 30 ft. I'll also work shore structure and known cover with jigs. Rat-L-traps and spinnerbaits could make an appearance around docks or wood cover. Any other ideas?

Fishing Resolutions
Actually catch fish on/learn to use jigs, flukes, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits(consistently). Learn how to identify patterns to locate fish using something other than the trial and error/previous experience. Also, get a boat setup that isn't makeshift.

urban meyer...
I'm just hoping he starts spending time on Tech's campus seeing how his daughter goes here and he's good friends with Paul Johnson. Supposedly, it was to focus on health and family. He'll probably be taking up golf and fishing

Bad bass boat accident. :-(
This is very sad and unfortunate. I wish these guys a speedy recovery. I hope they were able to recover all of the parts that gave way so that a fatigue and stress analysis could be performed and taken into account in future designs.

The "Stupid things you did as a kid that should have killed you thread"....
A lot of the same things as everyone else, fireworks and BBs. A few new levels of stupid though; 1. Tried hunting for wild hog with a knife. Thought I was invincible, but lost that confidence pretty quickly when it started to charge. Emptied the clip on my old .22 handgun into/at it and it still kept after me. 2. Snowboarding off of the roof of my friends cabin. We built a ramp and I decided to pull a front flip. I can't snowboard. Still have scars on my knuckles for that one. 3. Went out hiking into the woods in a state park in Tennessee with my buddy at dusk, without any supplies/maps of the area. There was a huge 50' waterfall that emptied into a steepwalled valley. We hiked around the edge trying to get a better look and the sides gave way and we fell down about 75 feet and were stuck down at the bottom. We ended up free climbing another waterfall in the dark with my friend having a sprained ankle. And then we got turned around in the woods in the dark. I thought for sure I'd found our way back only to pop into a clearing with woods all around, most disheartening thing ever. Got back at midnight having left around 7, but it could have been much worse.

Which bass that got away hurt the most?
I'd been fishing all day on my family's farm pond, and my mom wanted to go out in the canoe with me so I dropped off my dad and paddled her back to where we were catching all our fish. It started getting dark so we start to fish our way out of the part of the lake with lots of lay-downs and floating logs. I was fishing with a buzzbait(it's my favorite), but wasn't getting anything. I got a little brazen and threw over a few logs way back into this just absolute pile of sticks. Well I drag it over the top of a few logs and the second it hits open water the surface just explodes. The biggest fish I've ever seen (I've caught several around 10 lbs and this was significantly bigger) comes completely out of the water two times in a row before it dives. I still have to pull it over a log so I work it back to the surface and try to get it to jump. It does, but doesn't clear the log and slides alongside it and ends up falling into the thickest part of the limbs at the end of this the fallen tree. At this point I'm standing up trying to get my rod over it since it's about ten feet away. I yell to my mom to paddle backwards...she paddled the other way and I had to make the choice of stay in the boat and lose the fish or go in the water...Well I end up swimming and the fish managed to break off anyways.

Your Best Day Ever?
It's tough to pick one, but I'll go with the time I went out on New Year's Day. It was warm enough to be in a t-shirt in shorts and there was even a refreshing rain shower at one point and I forgot it was winter. We started by throwing small rapala minnows and were getting fish on almost every cast, but they were all around 1-2 lbs. I lost count before noon at 25 personally. Started throwing buzzbaits and got lit up. 2-3 lb bass every time. In the afternoon I threw out a t-rigged worm and caught a long, but skinny 6 lb bass. Threw poppers in the evening and got struck by EVERYTHING(see picture).

Unusual places you'd love to fish
I'm with you there. My best fishing has always been on farm ponds. I have seen some monster bass in them. My cousin took me to one outside of Tallahassee that hadn't been fished in years and introduced me to the buzzbait. I don't think we had a cast without a strike and every fish we pulled in was 4+ lbs. There's this one pond I drive past all the time in South Georgia that is about 15 acres with a solid 5 of them being standing timber and it has vegetation against the banks. It clearly used to be fished but has been abandoned for 5 or so years now.

The Next World Record
I'm sure there are record bass in South Georgia and Florida in some of the ponds with little to no fishing pressure. If I had to bet on a state, though, I'd put my money on California.

my first two pickerels
Nice fish Back in the summer I caught a smaller jack on a popper around some weeds, I was getting strikes on literally every cast from bigger fish, but they kept managing to lose the hooks(it was an old popper and they weren't sharp enough). I've heard they go for anything shiny so maybe try spoons to throw while you leave another rod out with a minnow.

Who Taught You How to bass Fish?
My dad and grandfather. On Lake Lanier for the most part. My dad loves fishing plastic worms and hardly will throw anything else, so my grandfather taught me to throw crankbaits and troll. I picked up buzzbaits from my cousin. I'm trying to pick up other techniques on my own, but those are the ones I'm best with.

Hello from Kennesaw
Hey all, My name's Andrew. I just finished at Georgia Tech and am starting a new job in the Kennesaw area. I've been fishing and sailing for as long as I can remember. I go fishing pretty often on the pond in my neighborhood, Lake Lanier, and will probably start fishing on Allatoona now. I also have a 3-4 acre farm pond in South Georgia that I like to fish. I've only been bass fishing on Lake Seminole once, but I really want to go again(I couldn't figure out what/where the fish were biting, but of the 4 fish I caught that weekend, 2 were species I'd never seen before and the 2 bass were around 4-5 lbs.). My biggest hurdle is not having a boat to fish out of, but I have an old boat that I only need to put a motor on.
