  1. Which Patriarch do you have? I am looking to pull the trigger on the Patriarch XT. Any comments on this reel before I lay down the 250 clams? Anyone else have this reel? All comments welcomed.
  2. I have a curado E7 that I just won in a raffle. I would like to return it for a different reel. I just acquired one so I do not need this one. Problem is no one can tell me where it was purchased . The raffle guy said it is either Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas. How can I find out? It would be embarrassing to go to one of the store's and be wrong. There is two sets of bar codes on the box. Will they tell me anything? Here are the two different bar codes numbers, Item No. CU200E7 (UPC) 0 22255 10992 5 and Item No.CU200E7 (JAN) 4 969363 566478 Thanks for your help.
  3. I am looking into a used Daiwa td sol baitcaster. What are the limits on this reel as far as line and lure weight? I plan on throwing some tubes and some T-rigs and maybe a C-rig. What different applications do you use your TD Sol for? I plan on using a Loomis MBR783c 6'6"-med/heavy-10/17 pd test- 1/4 / 3/4 oz lure weight. Am I asking too much of this reel?
  4. I'm looking to pull the trigger on a Carbonlite baitcaster. Would like any comments, positive or negative.
  5. I am curious about this theory. Longer rods cast a bit farther and have more line to "move" and shorter rods do not quite cast as far and have less line to "move". So this should be a wash. As far as leverage, with a shorter rod you are closer to the fish. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have been having this long rod, short rod thing bouncing around in my head also.
  6. I have a Minn-kota maxxum 65/sc trolling motor. It has 5 speeds and I just lost two of them. When I turn the knob to speed #1, I get speed #2. It seems I lost speed #1 it just shifts to speed #2. Same thrust on both #1 and #2. Almost the same with #3 and #4, they give me the same thrust ( but higher than speed #1 and #2) also. But my speed #5 still goes when I hammer it. I am sure what I have left is speed #2 and speed #3 and speed #5 only, speed #1 and #4 are gone. Any suggestions would be helpful as to what my problem is and what to do to fix it. One more thing, the TM is 10 years old so I have to figure if I want to fix it. Newer TM, newer technology. I guess it depends on the cost to repair. Thanks
  7. none............... And I have been setting hooks for over 30 years. Just lucky I guess.
  8. More important than an expensive reel in most freshwater scenarios. I agree 100%. Let your wallet be your guide.
  9. Looked at one at BPS and it seemed like a sweet reel. Came home to do a little research on this reel and did not find many reports on it. BPS reviews only had three and they were not to good. Anyone have one, and how about your thoughts. Thanks.
  10. I own a couple of "centrifugal" brake Shimano's. Citica and Curado. I am wanting to try a decent "magnetic braking baitcaster for general use. Never had one. What would you suggest for a fairly light, 6.0 or better on the gear ratio, and in the price range of the Citica or Curado. Do not need allot of line capacity just a nice easy casting , palmable (low profile) reel. I am not ready to put my Shimano's aside I just want to try something different. Thanks
  11. Any idea on the price once it hits the American market?
  12. Has anyone used the "Captain Hook" winch hook attaching device? Bass Pro has them. Looking for a way to not get my feet wet when loading my 16' tin boat on electric motor lakes only. Thanks...........
  13. Allot of truth in those words. There is always another step up. Fun does not necessarily mean better equipment but it sure does not hurt the process either.
  14. I tried a Imx sjr 721 6' that a friend of mine brought along fishing the other day. Sweet rod. Then I went to the tackle shop and checked out a Glx sjr 721 6'. Same spec's for each rod. It seemed to me that the Glx was a little stiffer rod than the Imx. Could it be that the Glx has a little more backbone than the Imx for the same spec rod? The shop did not have a Imx in stock so I could not compare them side by side. Is it just my imagination?
  15. Rod by a mile. First you have to feel the "tap", then you need a good rod to set the hook, then last on the chain is the reel. You can look at the reel two different ways. Way #1, it's there to winch the fish in. Way #2, it's the funest part of the outfit, it's neat to shop for, it has moving parts, and it looks cool on that expensive rod you just bought.
  16. The use for this reel will be mainly for shallow river fishing, 1/4 to 1/2oz. spinner baits and for reservoir fishing 1/2oz and depending on the wind I might go a little heavier on the bullet weight. On the 8 pounder, that might be a little dreaming on my part but it is a possibility. I guess the question I should be asking is "given the right rod and the correct line" will this bad boy shine?
  17. When I read the stuff on the Core 50mg it states "Light line and finesse" fishing. I have a Loomis GL-3 6'6" MH rod for this reel. I use 10pd and sometimes 12pd test line on my reels. Will this reel handle an 8 pound bass at the end of a 1oz weighted c-rig? I'm looking for a compact, low profile, light weight, multi use (not just finesse), reel for 1/8oz up to 1oz stuff. Thanks.
  18. The ratings on the rods are confusing to me. Let's pick a GLoomis IMX 6' SJR 722, 6 to 12 pd line and 1/8 to 3/8 lure weight - IMX 6'6" SJR 782, 6 to 12 pd line and 1/8 to 3/8 lure weight. Same-o, same-o. Same lure weight and same line weight. So other than 6" in length what am I gaining ? Maybe a couple of feet in casting, anything else? I have seen 7' rods with the same ratings. Confusing. Thanks
  19. Stay with a 2500.
  20. Do you think that the Avid would be to whipy for bottom bouncing baits? I am thinking about the hook set on a med. light 7 footer. Would there be too much rod bending before you get to the meat of the hook-set? I was close to getting Avid 6'9" mlxf and considered a 7' ml myself but backed off because of the whipyness. I could see these rods for reaction baits (less sensitivity needed), but for bottom bouncing plastics (more sensitivity needed)?
  21. Small tubes meaning 2 3/4" tube and a 1/16 or 1/8 oz. tube jig head.
  22. curado 200E5.............it's a keeper.
  23. Here is what I do. Take you outfit and your tackle bag to your closest lake or pond that has a dock. Now tie anything you have in your bag, one at a time and see how it performs. If the rod labors then the lure is too much for it, if the lure only casts a few feet then the lure is too light for it. You will find what feels good and what just does not feel right. Do not try to figure this out while actually fishing, you will be trying to make certain things work. Once you have figured out the capabilities and range of your rod then go home and get the boat and go fishing.
  24. Which one do "you" have, and what techniques, lures types, and lure weight range do you use it for. I want to get "one" of these reels then I will build a rod around it, so let's start with which one do you have and why? Thanks for your opinion.
