  1. I have a 6' med. spinning rod that is with me all the time for working a shoreline with a weightless senko tied on.
  2. No, you do not need one. That being said, I have 4 spinners and 3 baitcasters and they all see time on the water. If you get one, you will use it.
  3. Great reel, just go out and have fun. Medium cranks great, deep cranks, ?????????????.
  4. I have a couple Shimano 1000 size reels and love them. I have them on less than 6'6" rods. They are just a fun reel. Now the dark side "for me". I also have a couple of the 2500 size for when I need to speed up my presentation and do not want to reel in the lure like a crazy man. If you look close at a Daiwa 1500 reel it is just about the same size as a Shimano 2500, but the spool is samller. The Diawa 2000 I believe has a larger spool, same size reel. The best advice on this thread so far was to look at the rod and reel spec's and go from there. I like to fish 8 & 10 pound line so my rod and reel should be rated for that size line. Figure out your needs first, then go shopping.
  5. I called him with a question and he was very helpful. Very pleasent to deal with. "Thumbs-up".
  6. I hate foam. No fishing foam gear in my boat.
  7. No foam for me, grips or handle. Just do not like the stuff.
  8. It's a Ranger, nuff said.
  9. Great rod for the bucks, just do it.
  10. Bring it on, I like new stuff.
  11. 100%, right on the money. If you do not feel that "TAP" the reel just sits there.
  12. Am I the only one having a problem when it comes to "Mark this forum as read". Sometimes the post's clear and the next time the stay. Also sometimes when I click the box to go to the next unread post it goes to the beginning of the post anyway. Is it me ?
  13. As long as you meet the requirements of the return policy, it should not be a matter of "should I or should'nt I". Some stores put a limit on how many things can be returned in a given period of time. Cabelas has a good thing going here in Pa., it's called "The bargain cave". Returned as well as discontinued item's end up there at a discounted price.
  14. If you are using your "tip heavy" rod for "tip down" presentations, tip heavy is not a big factor. Now, if you are using your "tip heavy" rod for "tip up" presentations, that's a different story. The fatigue factor starts to creep in as the day goes on .
  15. Allot of talk about the "finesse" factor for this reel. Does any one use it for other applications? Cranks, spinnerbaits, T-rigs, C-rigs, jerk baits? What do you feel the limit is when using your TD Sol baitcaster? Reels usually do not come with guidelines for use as rods do.
  16. Gona hafta check my paypal account.
  17. Will you take PayPal for your "Deep Purple" album. Yes, I,m old also.
  18. If you had a Shimano password you could get in..................... ;D
  19. Wait a minute,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Barrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrf, Ok, there went my lunch.
  20. Tip up presentations where "feel" is more important, I would spend more on a rod. Tip down presentations where you are just "reeling" a lure back to the boat, then I would spend more on a reel. When dragging a tube on the bottom it does not matter how much I spent on a reel if I do not feel that "tap tap" through the rod first.
  21. Back in the days they had all three rooms open and an out building. Now it's 1/2 of one room and 1/2 of the room on the right. I am a bass fisherman but I did enjoy the saltwater and fly fishing stuff also.
  22. Went yesterday (Thursday), sad. Lot's of empty spaces, A few vendor's were not even set up at the opening bell 12 noon. Boat hall was not what it used to be. On the plus side, there was plenty of room to walk around and in the boat hall the boats were not all crammed together. Kudos to Susquehanna Fishing Tackle from Pa. for being there. They brought some "worth" to the fishing tackle side of the show. But again on the plus side, the ground is white and the water is frozen, so why not go and bump into some old friends.
  23. Just use clear line, end of thinking process.
