  1. I too am also using an E7 on a Clark W Lowrider for weightless. Tracker....what is your budget? I did not post one because I want to consider all options. The Chronarch the Core and the Curado looked interesting but I'm not married to just Shimano reels. I want to consider what you folks use also.
  2. I am looking to pick up a baitcaster for throwing, let's say 1/8 to 3/4 oz. stuff. Normally I will be throwing 1/4 to 1/2 but I would like a little wiggle room if possible. Some smaller spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits, and maybe drop down to some 1/8 tube throwing. I know that the rod has allot to do with reel's ability to cast so I am looking for a reel that will not disappoint the rod. Also I would like to keep my choices to reels that I can buy across the counter at Cabela's or BPS. Is there such a thing as a finesse baitcaster? Thanks.
  3. Allot of this fishing game is mental. If you think it will help your game then keep it. If you are not quite sure go swing a few more rods (with your reel on them) and go from there. Two many choices out there. If your combo does not fell right to you then it goes back. You do not go fishing to fight your equipment. Rod down, some tip heavy is ok, rod up presentation some tip heavy is a minus, but sometimes a given.
  4. BPS Excel, 8 for spinning, 12 for baitcasters. Buy a big roll, it's cheap and I have been using this line for a long time.
  5. I do not mind spending the money to get to where I want to be . Shoot, in a moment of madness I even looked closer at the Core. Bad,bad, dream.
  6. Very good point. I just want to know that the reel has the stuff to throw 1/4 or more if I match it with the right rod. I mostly use spinning for 1/8 to 1/4 oz. thingies, but it would be nice to know that I am purchasing a baitcaster that can handle light stuff in general.
  7. I'm looking at these two reels for some light weight casting duties. Let's say 1/4 oz stuff up to no more that 1/2 oz thingies. Lighter spinnerbaits, plastics, and so on. Reel will go on a GLoomis MBR783 6'6" MH. I want to cast these lures a country mile or as close to that as possible. Ok, maybe half a country mile. I do not mind spending the extra $120.00 if the Chronarch is more the ticket for what I want to accomplish. Or, what do you use for light lure baitcasters? Thanks for the input.
  8. It's color. Pflueger Supreme XT spinning. Great reel for that price, and I would probably have a couple if they were not "GOLD". Then there are the Carrot Stix. I would not mind having a few in my arsenal. I have shook a few at the tackle shop and think they are great, but they are "ORANGE". Sorry folks, I am not into ,gold, orange, and now there is even a "WHITE" rod. Good equipment but I can not get past the color. Am I alone in my color fetish? I am so ashamed of myself. Like I said "For very shallow reasons".
  9. Just give the handle a little extra umpf when you tighten it down. Should be ok.
  10. Hey bigfruit's, Tracker 01 here, Did you get my PM on your avid mlxf ?
  11. Bass Pro Shops, Excel 8 or 10 pd. test mono. It's good line that does not cost allot of money. You can change your line often and it does not hurt your wallet.
  12. When fishing braid do you use a leader or no leader, and why.
  13. Shimano for baitcasters and Daiwa for spinners.
  14. Is this when they have their reel trade-in ?
  15. Do you know how many times I have read that statement ????? Somebody explain it to me. Ok, here is the set-up, 7 ft. spinning, 1/4 oz tube, mono line, tight or semi tight line, and you get a bump. Now you have 7ft. of rod bending over and the tip is pretty far out there before it has a chance to move and then there is the amount of line factor to be dealt with. Ok, now same set-up, but with less rod, say 6'3" to load up, and less line between you and the fish. Less rod, less line, hook set to fish faster ! Allot of people advocate 7' plus rods, So is there more than casting distance involved here?
  16. Has anyone experimented with different colors of braid? I want to try braid and my eyes are getting older, older, older, well you get the point. I now use mono in clear blue fluorescent, this helps with the line watching. What color do you use and why? Thanks for your thoughts.
  17. no offense but this has been asked and answered tons of times. I know the search tool here leaves something to be desired by try it. I'd say you could come up with that same question 10-20 times in the last 2 years I think it's a good question. Things change, the reel I love today might end up on the swap and sell board tomorrow. I could not give you a review on a Stradic 2500 FI six months ago and now I have two of them and love them. As our collection of "stuff" changes so does our opinion of our "stuff" change. So here are my choices: Daiwa Tierra (spinning) and the Shimano Citica (baitcaster).
  18. I'm looking at the Croix LTBS68MXF for shallow river smallie fishing. Light stuff.
  19. I am looking really hard at a St. Croix LTB. What ever happened to black, gray, or other subdued color's? Has this been their standard colors? Does anyone know if this will change in the near future? Nice rod, nice split grip, but wrong color. I know it's just a head game but I just can not get into it.
  20. What brand of rods did you put your reel on ? I tried a few St Croix, Shimano, and a few G Loomis. I started at 6'6" and tried different rods on up to 7'. It seemed like every inch I added made the rod more tip heavy. Going from a med. to a med. light seemed to help some but then I am getting a wimpier rod, but maybe that's ok, my experience with 7 foot wimpier rods is "none". I have a Crucial 6'6' med. fast that I really enjoy fishing with but I want to step up to a longer rod if there are more advantages to it.
  21. I fish tubes, senko's, and the like, with a rod raised at about the one thirty position. It seems like allot of folks here believe that a longer spinning rod has so many advantages with line management. I do allot of river fishing and I am always looking for better line sweep or better hook-up, or farther casting or what ever other advantages there are to a longer spinning rod. When I say longer I mean a seven footer, plus or minus an inch or two. I fish mainly 6'6" rods. Went to BPS this morning and took my own reel along, a stradic 2500. Well the longer the rod I put my reel on the heavier the outfit got. It seems to me the if I am going to spend a full day on the water comfort win's out over line management. (Sort of) Adding weight's to the butt just makes things heavier. Am I missing something here?
  22. Hey Fishing Doug, Strange you should mention the St. Croix Legend Tournament 6'3". I am just about ready to pull the trigger on the LTBS63MXF but the only thing that is holding me back is the G Loomis Bronzeback SMR752S-SP. It is about the same price range and it seems to be a close call to the St. Croix. Anyone have the Bronzeback ? How about a review .
  23. Need some recommendations for a spinning rod to use for throwing light stuff (tubes, weightless senkos, etc.) around 1/8 to 1/4 oz. This rod will be used for some casting for smallmouth bass as well as used to skip small baits up under docks and overhangs. I have read allot of "rod" stuff on this forum and it seems that a 6'3" med. would be a place to start. I am looking for some "opinions" on this size rod or should I be looking at a different length rod. I have researched some rods from the Shimano Compre to a G. Loomis Bronzeback. Sometimes we get hung up on those "technique specific" rods and I know that it is a starting place. Maybe I should be looking at two different rods for what I want to do. What do you use for this application and why? Oh ya, one more thing, fast or x-fast. Thanks
