  1. Cool! glad to have fellow Wisconsinites here on the forum! This forum is fantastic and reading and talking with the fishing gurus on here will help you with fishing A LOT! I got into bass fishing a few years ago as well, and when i joined this site I tried new things, and all-around became a better fisherman! Welcome to the forum!
  2. i hate it when i see "bluegill" colored baits, and they are white or grey??? confuses me as to what freakin bluegill theyre looking at.
  3. my dad isnt a great fisherman he really has no clue what he is doing. i dont like it when he loses my lures. He has and will cast crankbaits to slop on the surface, this wouldnt be too much of an issue, but when we fish from shore and im slowly working my way down a bank with a plastic or something, he cuts in front of me and casts the crank into weeds and pulls in pounds of salad every cast! He just ruins the spots that i was obviously on my way to! I love my dad and am thankful that he got me into fishing when i was younger, but dad you can really tick me off sometimes!
  4. The only rapala lures i like are the shad rap and the original floater. Those lures are special and can't be remade by other companies. I dont really like the DT series. My favorite cranks are strike king.
  5. Yeah there is! I've never used them, but i think that is what they do try these http://www.northland...ain.taf?cat=312
  6. #1 is a beaver bait- Havoc pitboss ( but i use lots of brands) #2 is a finnese worm- Zoom trick worm ( again i use others) #3 Strike King Rage Tail Toad- there is nothing like them
  7. These, WaveWorms tiki grass craw. they're cheap (75 cents for 10 right now) , pretty durable, come in a variety of colors, and are scented well. Oh, and they work
  8. When fishing from shore, its almost always better to fish with T-rigged soft plastics and jigs. This way you can pick apart and fish the good spots thoroughly. ( plus cranks and other powerlures can get caught up in weeds and cover much more easily) I always start with short parallel pitches to the bank, then i make short casts and pitches in a fanning motion around me. Then i go ahead and do longer casts. This way you make dang sure that if a fish is there, he will know that the lure is there too. I repeat this process over again as i move down the bank, I will move 50-75 feet between casting spots. *make sure to repeatedly pound anything that looks like it would hold a fish.
  9. 2011 didnt bring in any monstrous fish (but i did get my pb). What i love is all the great experiences to be had, i dont have to catch alot and they dont have to be big. fishing is always fun. So my 2011 highlights area as follows. The wisconsin opening weekend was a pretty d**n good weekend, I caught about 45+ bass in the first two days, almost all were above 14 inches and that is when i caught my new personal best on a spinnerbait which was 3lbs 9oz. What really made it unique was that i caught all these fish on lures i had never had confidence in before- spinnerbaits and lipless cranks. ( lots of fish and big fish never hurt ) Later i was fishing from my boat on a little lake that I didnt know too well, I had pitched a T-rigged tube to a dock and felt a tap-tap, so i slammed back the rod and i missed so i started to quickly reel in my lure. I watched it twist itsway quickly back to the boat and a small 12in bass followed it. I stopped my lure dead and he nailed it feet from the boat! .. again didnt catch alot and he definately wasnt big, big an awesome experience none the less. My last cool moment happened in late fall as fishing was slowing down, I was fishing with a spinnerbait- A new confidence lure - and nothing was goin for me. everything seemed dead. I saw a water bug buzzing on the surface a far ways out so i casted my lure past it. I waked the spinnerbait as to imitate a fish about to hit the bug. I jerked my rod and the blade popped out of the water just as it reached the bug. and.. BOOM as if it was rehearsed a bass crushed my spinnerbait! it ended up being an average bass for the lake 14in or so. I didnt get out half as much as id hoped to in 2011 but either way i consider it a great success, This year i will make it a priority to fish more so I can experience more of these wonderful moments!
  10. Theyre the same as the xs4 jerkbait they used to sell, now its just cheaper and has edwin evers's name on it. I bought 'em when they were 12 bucks and thought they were good at that price!
  11. Check it http://www.advancedangler.com/2011SKPage.asp?SelectValue=KVD%20-%20Prototype%20Strike%20King%20Topwater
  12. sup dude, good to see more wisconsin guys on here
  13. JIG back when i was first learning how to fish, i had a handful of lures, i really liked using senkos but the jig always caught bigger fish, i didnt know why but it did. I caught more fish with other things so i shyed away from it. one day i was fishing with my family at a crowded dock with really clear water, i tried a jig and smacked a 17 1/2 inch bass. that got me hooked back onto the jig. Recently i bought some flipping heads and skirts because its cheaper and i like to play around with colors. I used BOSS finnesse flip heads matched with boss skirts. I really like them and usually have one tied on my rod at all times. go jigs.
  14. also, nothing can compare to how pitifully bad "Cabela's monster bass" is. i played it probably 3 times and set it down forever. THE WORST 20$ ive ever spent.
  15. i had "tp angler" for the playstation 2. it was a really fun game, and compared to most fishing games, very realistic (not graphics wise, but the lure selection, way the lures moved, etc.)It was fun and very challenging at times. I say was because i broke it about a year ago man i miss it.
  16. I grabbed one of those VIP rods, it is really a steal. best rod i own.
  17. Exactly, what he said, i caught a bass shorter than the worm! i didnt hook it, he just neverletgo of the worm lol.
  18. if its wacky rigged, i usually just reel down and lift up. but if its texas rigged you gotta swing big.
  19. I do this with both hooks and it works GREAT, thinking of it now, I probably dont need tocut one off the rear treble, but its good assurance
  20. get a pair of nail clippers and clip it on your shirt collar, my front teeth have so many groves it looks like a saw blade. and im only 16
  21. Those gander mountain ones are great, you get quite a few for not a lot of money, the free hook is nice too and since they have craw trailers when they become worn and beyond rigging, you can tear off the bottom and use it as a jig chunk
