  1. Get a feel for the bait you are fishing, learn how it feels when it comes over a log, through a patch of grass, and especially when a lunker latches on. I had a tough time too when I first started fishing jigs but now they are my number one bait for any situation. It just takes time and practice.
  2. BPS is good but I love the local tackleshop we have around here, they always have local reports on what's biting where and they carry custom stuff.
  3. 1. 3/8oz black/blue jig with a black/blue ZOOM super chunk 2. 7/16oz PB&J homemade jig with Sweet Beaver trailer 3. Bagley Kill'r B crankbait 4. Stanley Ribbit soft plastic frog 5. ZOOM finesse worm in watermelon/gold.
  4. Oh yeah, I was playing tug of war with that guy for about 10 minutes.
  5. Triton9, me, and my dad loaded 2 extra batteries and decided to drive down to a place called Diascund Creek Reservoir today, which is electric motor only. Wasn't expecting much as the water temp had dropped from 65 last week to 61 today but man was I wrong, here's a few of the good fish... First fish of the day on a light purple/brown jig 2nd fish on a t-rigged trick worm 3rd on a silver shad spinnerbait 4th on a Bandit 100 series crankbait A nice Bowfin I caught on the same jig And the last fish of the day We caught about 12 fish in all, all of them were 2+lbs, but we missed a lot of VERY big fish too.
  6. After buying my first Kistler rod, a 7' MH Graphite Special, back in September I will never buy another brand. It is so sensitive and light it's almost unbelievable, I strongly reccommend the Kistler. And I have never had or heard of anyone having problems with their reels not sitting right on a Kistler rod :-?
  7. I like the Pointer 100 in Aurora Brown and Slender Pointer 112 in American Shad.
  8. whoa them are some HAWG smallies right there what were they caught on?
  9. Body of water: Chickahominy lake/swamp Conditions: clear skies, windy, 75 degree air temp water conditions: lightly stained, 65 degrees Techniques fished: flipping and pitching jigs and t-rigged baby brush hogs to cypress trees and shallow grass in creek arms and the mainlake. Casting 1/2oz football jigs, shakey head worms, and c-rigged brush hogs in 12' of water near the dam and on steep bluff banks. Casting spinnerbaits around windblown points, cypress trees, and shallow grass lines. Skipping senkos and trick worms under docks. Even frogs over grass mats. Fish caught: One small keeper bass, and one small pike We figured that due to the warm water temps that the fish would be in a shallow spawn or prespawn mode, but they just weren't anywhere to be found. What did I do wrong?
  10. A 1/2oz black/blue jig with a couple really loud rattles and buoyant trailer like a Strike King 3x chunk dragged and hopped really slow around thick cover should do the trick. Also, don't overlook a lipless crankbait like a Rat-L-Trap, get one in a red/craw color and burn it through the water to force a reaction strike.
  11. When using a jig you don't really need to feel the action, the only thing you need to feel is the bottom and when a bass hits it. Also, I would suggest switching to a fluorocarbon line for less stretch and better sensitivity, I use Seaguar InvisX.
  12. Nice job!!! I'd say around 6.5-7lbs, it looks a lot bigger in the second pic than the first. What did you catch him on?
  13. very nice fish, is that an xpress or G3 you're fishing out of?
  14. Sweet Beaver in hematoma t-rigged with 3/16 oz weight really tears up the Largies. But for the brown bass I like a Smallie Beaver in infection or sprayed grass on a dropshot rig with a 3/8oz weight.

    1. 1/2oz black/blue jig with ZOOM super chunk trailer 2. 3/16oz homemade black/blue/purple jig with a GYCB baby craw trailer 3. 1/4oz shakey head with ZOOM trickworm- Junebug 4. Bandit 200 series crankbait- chart/rootbeer 5. Lucky Craft Pointer 100- Aurora Brown.
  16. Good job! I love yak fishin in small rivers and lakes.
  17. 1. Yes 2. A jig in summer craw or black/blue
  18. The slender pointer 112 is the perfect size for big smallies. American shad is my favorite color, but for dark stained water you may want to try the table rock shad color.
  19. :oThat is amazing :o Awesome job with sticking some monster brown bass!!!!!!!
  20. Wow that is a beautiful spot, what river were you fishing?
  21. I read about problems with zillion gonna stick with Shimano Can you post the problems you have read about the zillion? I am interested to know because I am seriously considering the zillion for my next buy. Thanks. I would like to know these problems you are talking about, as I am considering getting a zillion too.
  22. terrible??? I've heard only good things about it. What do you see that is wrong with it?
  23. Like Maltese said a jerkbait is a really good choice in early spring. But my favortie techniques for early spring are cranking, throwing a spinnerbait, and pitching a jig. cranking- For water above 52 degs. I like a round bodied crankbait like a Rapla DT-4, Bagley Kill'r B, or a Bandit 200 series. But for water under 52 degs. I like flatsided crank like a Lee-Sisson. I fish these baits on a 6'6" Medium action All-Star American Classic with a Pfleuger Supreme casting reel and 14lb Stren mono. Spinnerbaits- I generally use spinnerbaits from 5/16-1/2oz with 2 gold willow blades. This is because I like to fish the bait pretty fast in the clear water. I mostly use either Terminator, custom-made, or my homemade spinnerbaits. My favorite colors golden shiner, chart/white/blue, and a custom color I call shiner/glimmer blue/glimmer green. I use the same gear with this as I do with jig fishing. Jig- This time of year I'm normally fishing clear, shallow water so I like a 1/4oz or 5/16oz Conquistador jig in summer craw and black/blue. I throw em with a 7' MH action Kistler rod with a Shimano Curado and 15lb Seaguar fluorocarbon line. I pitch to any shallow cover I can find and I retrieve it with quick hops or I swim it.
  24. The G-Splash is the only popper I use anymore, it has a great spitting action and it really calls fish in from a distance. Plus it has a quality feathered treble on the back which won't fall apart. My favorite colors are Ghost minnow and American shad.
  25. A 5/16oz chart/white/blue spinnerbait and a black/blue jig, these baits always catchem for me this time of year.
