  1. I use casting gear for 90% of my fishing, that includes finesse fishing. After time and practice I learned how to cast very light baits like weightless trickworms and other finesse baits with casting gear and now I just feel much more comfortable with a baitcaster in my hand. But having the right gear and setting it up right helps a lot too. These are my 2 main rigs for finesse fishing. Shimano Curado CU-200, Kistler 7' MH casting rod, 10-15lb Seaguar fluorocarbon line Pfleuger Supreme casting reel, All-Star American Classic 6'6" Medium casting rod, 10-12lb Seaguar fluorocarbon
  2. OBX yer back, yeah I heard about your surgery and man that has got to suck. But we're headin yer way this weekend, we plan to be there sunday morning with the yak ready to go. and check your pm's
  3. That has got to be a solid 6lber, Nice job!!!
  4. Did any of yall buy a rod with a spiral wrap?
  5. Does anybody own a Gblanks rod or has anybody been able to use one? If so what do you think of them? I was going to get another Kistler but before I do that I want to get a spiral wrapped rod and these babies look really good and are fairly cheap compared to other custom and brand name rods.

Don't give up Muddy!!! listen to the gman and you will soon be catching lunker after lunker on the jig. It took me a year to get the jig thing down and now I always, and I mean ALWAYS, have a jig tied on because it's one of those baits that just plain works.

Amen brother, I like tossing a 3/4-1oz football jig with a baby brush hog trailer and popping it right along the ledge. I also like throwing LC Pointer 100's, Bandit 300 series, and a ZOOM finesse worm or roboworm on a dropshot rig
  8. :o Good Lord man them are some monster pike
  9. I'm like that with the jig, however it is a VERRRRY rare occasion when the bass won't hit a jig, no matter the conditions

Dang those are some nice fish!!!
  11. I didn't weight the big fish but just assumed by looking at it that it was a 4lber. But now looking at it in the pics it looks much bigger, what do yall think?
  12. Went to the DMV early yesterday morning to get my learners and then headed to the Chick. We got to the Brickyard around 1:30, after a little holdup at home, and headed down river to fish a couple creeks. First we hit Old Neck and Parsons Creek but quickly realized that fishing all that grass was a complete waste of time, so we cranked up the Merc and headed further down river to Morris Creek just upriver from the Chickahominy Bridge. I ended up catching a fat little 12' football, a 14incher, and a big 4lber. My dad caught a 13inch bass and two nice perch. We caught all of the fish off cypress trees in the 1-2' zone and the dirty water also seemed to help, I caught all my fish on a t-rigged Kinami Nories Bug in chart/white and my dad caught his fish on a t-rigged sweet beaver First fish of the day 4lber, notice half of her tail is gone :-? 4lber again Perch
  13. Nice fish!!! I fished Osborne from the bank when I was in West Palm back in April, between my dad and me we caught 4 fish over 4lbs and one 5lber. That was the first time I had ever fished that place and I can't wait to go back.
  14. That is a BEAUTY right there, what did she hit?
  15. The best I know of for a beginner smallie fisherman is a 3 inch grub on a jighead. Get some pumpkin, smoke, and smoke/purple colored grubs and thread em onto an 1/8 or 1/4oz jighead. You can swim it straight back to you, jig it slowly along the bottom, drag it, or yoyo it. It's a very effective bait that is also very easy to use.
  16. I own 2 All-Star American Classics and they are awesome rods for the price, if you're looking for a really good rod at a low price I highly recommend them.
  17. I use a 6'6" Medium action All-Star American Classic for throwing topwaters in close quarters, but when I need really long casts I use a 7' Medium action Harold Eisley rod.
  18. My dad and me launched out of the Brickyard to see what the action would be like. When we got there the water was 72.4 degs and the sky was overcast with a light drizzle, perfect topwater conditions. Wrong, I fished a G-Splash and a buzzbait around shallow spawning areas and cypress trees for 2 hours and didn't get a single fish, I did have one strike but he came unbuttoned pretty quick. While I was struggling to figure out why the fish wouldn't hit a topwater in such perfect conditions, my dad caught a MONSTER 15" crappie and a small keeper bass on a Daiwa shad-crank. After fishing the bank near the landing we headed up to the canal by The Haven restaurant and fished in there for a little while, we didnt catch anything but when we were idling out of the creek my dad noticed 2 huge blue herons thrashing around. We motored over to take a look and saw that they were both tangled up in some fishing line that was hung in a tree, so we got a hold of the birds, cut the line, untangled em, and sent them on their way. After saving the birds we went to Diascund creek and fished for a couple more hours and I finally caught my first and only fish of the day, a beautiful 2lber that hit a texas-rigged Kinami Nories bug pitched into a cypress tree. It was a tough day overall but it turned out to be a beautiful day. citation crappie 2lber
  19. I use a 4-weight flyrod, my handtied chart/white/silver clouser minnows, and watch for the birds.
  20. Paca chunks or baby paca craws, they are by far the best trailer I have ever used.
  21. 1/2oz white Lunker Lure buzzbait- been using it for 3 years, 1 fish 7.4lbs 3/8oz black/blue Persuader jig w/ ZOOM super chunk- been using it for 1 1/2 years, one 6lber, two 5lbers, and many 3's and 4's t-rigged Paca Craw in Okeechobee craw- been using it for 6 weeks, two 6lbers, three 4lbers, and a couple 3's 5/16oz homemade spinnerbait in chart/white- been using it for 1 year, countless 4lbers and a few 5's Stanley Ribbit in Black- been using it for 1 year, one 6lber and several 4's sorry no DD's.......yet
  22. I love the full size paca craw in Okeechobee craw, in the last 3 weeks I have caught 8 bass over 4lbs. including one 6.3lber by t-rigging it, pitching it to beds and shaking it. The action of the claw arms drives em nuts! Also, the paca chunk is the best jig trailer I have ever used, it adds so much more action to the jig than would a ZOOM or YUM chunk.
  23. Nice fish, and your nephew's fish is no doubt a golden shiner.
  24. I'm looking at the casting version of the fuego and maybe a SoL spinning reel in the future.
  25. Anyone have any opinions on the Fuego?
