For flipping grass I like a Persuader jig, but when I'm fishing wood I like a Terminator or All-Terrain tackle jig. My most productive colors are black/blue, watermelon flash, brown/purple flash, and Texas Craw. I fish all my jigs with Paca chunks or ZOOM superchunks in matching colors.
  2. wow man thats awesome, keep it up!
  3. Now thats how you do it, nice job man!!!
  4. G.D.S. Mini DR in chart./shad
  5. Like Brad said a frog buzzed over top the weeds can be deadly. But two other techniques thqt really produce for me are flipping heavy t-rigged craws or creature baits into the thick stuff and throwing weightless senkos around the edges and holes in the weeds.
  6. Pegging: I just get a normal rubber band, snap it in half, and tie an overhand knot with it right above my weight. I only peg my weight when I'm fishing heavy cover (to reduce hangups) or when I'm fishing very clear water (to provide a more realistic, compact presentation) Skipping: skipping is pretty easy with spinning gear, but it can get kinda tough with casting gear. Rig up a weightless senko or trickworm on a 6'6"-6' M or MH spinning rod, then approach a target such as a dock, now lower your rod tip and make a quick sidearm snap cast. The bait skip effortlessly under the dock, and with time and practice you will get increased distance and accuracy. Now with casting gear you need a heavier bait like a 3/8 or 5/16oz jig, rig that up and approach the dock, then make a very quick and powerful pitch that is very low to the water, the jig should splat several times right on the bottom of the jighead. The key to skipping with casting gear is to train your thumb to feather the spool at the right times throughout the cast, if you don't then you will wind up with a backlash of biblical proportions. Weightless: A weightless rig is a texas rig without the weight. Take a senko, trickworm, or fluke and rig it weedless with no weight, I use this rig when fish are very shallow and they want a bait with a slow fall.
  7. Falcon lures makes a hook called the "K" weedless weighted wacky hook, check em out... http://www.fishingworld.com/FalconLures/Details.tmpl?ID=10243698951039588&Cart=118148430733253651&SKU=53
  8. I used to use a regular 2/0 worm hook for wacky rigging, I would get hung up a lot and many times the senko would go flying off the hook on a cast. But I have now switched to the "K" wacky hook made by falcon lures, its almost like an octopus hook with a wire weedguard, and they have worked wonders for me. http://www.fishingworld.com/FalconLures/Details.tmpl?ID=10243676811008277&Cart=118148430733253651&SKU=52
  9. I have a 6ft. Medium action All-Star proII spinning rod, I got in on sale a couple months ago because apparently it was discontinued. Other than that all I know is that it is a great rod for skipping plastics under docks and trees.
  10. wow that is one badazz lookin bait!!!
  11. Yeah I suggest switching to mono or fluorocarbon on your cranking rod, the stretch will help keep the fish from ripping free of the hooks and keep'em buttoned up all the way to the boat.
  12. I use the Jacks worm and the jacks wacky worm a lot. They also make a good sweet beaver type bait called the sweet pea, it's a good alternative when the RI beaver can't be found.
  13. Clear: Brown, PB&J, watermelon flash, and brown/orange. I throw these color jigs with no rattles, a trimmed skirt, and a small realistic craw trailer like a ZOOM critter craw. Stained: Black/blue, black/blue/purple flash, black/brown/gold, and white. I fish these jigs with rattles and a slightly bulkier trailer like a super chunk Jr. Muddy: Black/blue, black/red, black/chart, and white. I use double rattles and big bulky trailers like Paca chunks in muddy water.
  14. I once caught a couple small bass and crappie on a texas rigged strip of tomato...
  15. When using deep diving crankbaitsI like to use pure fluorocarbon lines in low pound tests. Because the sinking property of the fluoro combined with the small diameter of 10-12lb line helps the bait to get a little deeper. Right now my favorite line for this is Seaguar InvisX pure fluorocarbon.
  16. I really like catching smallmouth in clear water on UL gear, this friday I went up to Graves mt, VA and caught a pile of nice smallmouth and little trout on an UL rod with 4lb line. I also like using really light flyrods (4wt or less) to catch bream, crappie, smallmouth, and catfish. But when I fish a big lake or river I use my normal casting gear.
  17. Use very light fluorocarbon line (4-10lb) and throw baits that resemble the main forage in shape, size, behavior, and color. Two of my most productive techniques for superclear water is throwing a ZOOM super fluke rigged on a weighted flutter hook with a spinning reel and 8lb fluorocarbon line and I work it as fast and as eratically as I can, the second is a 1/2-3/4oz Heavy cover finesse jig with a trimmed skirt and a small craw trailer on a 7' MH rod and 12lb fluorocarbon and I just throw it around deeper cover (7-15ft.) and crawl it or pop it off the bottom for a reaction strike.
  18. Awesome story and nice fish!!!
  19. Yeah man that would be great, I hit calvalry run today in the rain and caught a bunch of dinks and lost an absolute MONSTER on a jig...but yeah come on down
  20. hmm...you could try a jerkbait. I have had several experiences on lakes with extremely clear water where I can see the bass but they won't hit anything, when this happens I rig up 2 baits, a suspending jerkbait like an LC flashminnow, and a ZOOM superfluke rigged weightless worked extremely fast and erratically right in front of the fish.
  21. Me and my girlfriend skipped school yesterday to go to the Graves Mountain Bluegrass Festival with my dad and brother. I wasn't really expecting to do any fishing so I brought and Ultralight and a small box of baits just in case we happened to find a stream or something. It took us about 2hrs to get there from my house in Mechanicsville, but man was a I pumped when we finally got there. It turns out that the Rose River runs right by the stage, so we setup the chairs and my gf and me took off upriver to find somning e fish. After about 30min of fishing all I had caught was a little river chub and I was very discouraged as I was hoping to find some trout or even better some smallmouth. Well my wish came true as we found a hole that was about 10ft. deep and crystal clear. My first cast with a Berkley Power nymph resulted in a big chub and the catching went on for at least another hour. The final count was, me: 8 river chubs, 5 warmouths, 3 bream, 7 smallmouth bass, and 4 largemouth. gf: 3 chubs, 2 bream, 4 largemouth, and 2 smallmouth. I was very proud of Erin, my gf, for catching her first smallmouth. The fish weren't very big but heck, catching 10-14inch smallmouth on UL and 4lb line with my girlfriend while listening to guys like Ralph Stanley, IIIrd tyme out, and the Grascals play awesome bluegrass with beautiful mountain scenery all around. Does it get any better?!?!?! I don't have the pics yet but I will post em when I get em.
  22. I have really good luck in the Pamunkey and James rivers with Rapala skitterpops, LC sammy 100's, and Manns 1- cb's. Also, when stubborn smallies won't hit a buzzbait get a spinnerbait with Indiana or big willow blades and burn it so the blades break the surface a few times during the retrieve. This makes it look just like something chasing a flicking baitfish.
  23. I buy kistlers for one reason, they are the best rods I have ever used...simple as that.
  24. I've used em with 8lb fluorocarbon and 50lb braid and I don't really think line makes a big difference
  25. Nice fish there dub, wish we coulda caught some like that yesterday but it was still good to get out there. Hopefully next time we come up we can fish the river, and maybe search for that 7lber again
