  1. You are not alone, I am also a jig fishing addict. When casting to steep rocky banks I prefer a football-head jig with a twintail grub or craw trailer. Cast parallel to the bank and after it has settled I shake it and then snap the rodtip up to make the jig jump. But, this time of year the fish are very aggressive so instead of a normal jigging presentation I like to take a 3/16oz jig, put a twintail grub trailer on it, and swim it parallel to the bank and any other cover. These two techniques usually produce for me but if they don't then just mix it up until the fish tell you what they want.
  2. Nice job! That's a cool lookin area ya got there, I bet you'll really slay'em once the bream start spawning.
  3. Yes it was a beautiful Sunday, and to respond to a question you posted earlier I haven't fished Kerr at all this year. I want to go there at least once before spring break because the water temps are gettin in the 50's and I want some more of that prespawn action When are you going?
  4. Didn't feel like hooking up the boat today so instead me and my dad headed down to our favorite pond for a few hours this morning. My dad scored a nice 2lber on his second cast and then after about 20 minutes I landed a beautiful 3.5-4lber. Then, my very next cast to the same spot a GIANT hit my crankbait, he peeled drag for about 5 minutes before the hooks just popped out >. After recovering from my loss I went on to catch 7 more keeper size fish and another nice 3lber, while my dad caught 4 more keepers and a nice crappie. I caught all of my fish on a Rapala DT-4 and my dad caught his on a chart. roadrunner and a pumpkin/pepper tube. here's the big dude One more
  5. Kistler makes the perfect jig rod IMO. I currently own a 7' MH Graphite Special and I LOOOOVE IT!!!!! It is very light. extremely sensitive, and is the best jig rod I have ever used. Now if the Graphite series is that good I can't imagine how good the Heliums are...maybe one day
  6. I have updated the thread because I am now considering the Chronarch 50mg too. I will be mounting the reel on a 7' MH Kistler rod and will use it mostly for pitching jigs and t-rigs, throwing spinnerbaits, and weightless senkos.
  7. I am debating between getting a Daiwa Zillion or the Shimano Chronarch 100B. I have been a hardcore shimano guy for a long time but the zillion just looks so good. Anyone have any opinions?
  8. I twitch it very fast just below the surface to catch monster stripers and smallies, and the occasional gar.
  9. The bitsy tube is a smallie magnet in small rivers, don't know about those craw tubes and lizard tubes though :-?
  10. I use a 7' Medium Heavy Kistler rod for fishing LC Ponter 100's and any other big jerkbait. But for Rogues and husky jerks I like a 6'6" Medium action rod with a soft tip. And for line I use mostly 10-12lb fluorocarbon or 10lb monofilament.
  11. 1. Cavitron Buzzbait, White/chart. 2. LC G-Splash, Ghost minnow 3. LC Sammy 100, American Shad 4. Mann's 1-, Ghost minnow 5. Smithwick Devil's Horse, yellow/black back
  12. I am going to respect the site's bandwidth capabilities and try to keep it short and simple. First of all, search the fishing articles section for anything about jigs. Now after you have done that look at the body of water you are fishing, is it a lake or a river? What is the water temperature? what is the water clarity and color? what are the main types of cover and forage? what is the depth? What species of bass is dominant? After you know all of those facts then report back with your findings, but here is the crash course for now... My favorite time of year to fish jigs is all year, I always have one tied on whether it be for flipping, pitching, casting, or swimming. My favorite all 'round jig that can be used for just about anything is a 3/8oz Black/blue Persuader jig with a black/blue ZOOM super chunk trailer. Most of the time I am pitching this jig to shallow, 8' FOW or less, cover like grass or laydowns. I fish it on a 7' Medium Heavy action Kistler rod with a Shimano Citica reel and 15lb Seaguar InvisX fluorocarbon line. When I pitch it in there I let it fall all the way to the bottom and let it sit for at least 15 seconds, then I pick it up and shake it in place, and then hop it once. Then I shake it again and give it another hop. Most of my strikes come when the jig is falling, which is characterized by a heavy feeling, a light thump, or your line moving sideways. However, a strike can come at any point during your retrieve so be ready to set the hook hard whenever you think there is a fish on. Good luck
  13. The 1- is the only mann's crankbait I use because, like Natural said, the rest look pretty low quality.
  14. Give Mike Jones a call at 301-898-3836, he is the owner of Pappy's Baits and he makes killer 1/8oz jigs. He ties them with any combination of pure rubber, fox hair, bear hair, and flashabou you want. When paired with his own Pappy's baits trailers they are deadly on largemouth, spotted bass, and especially big smallies.
  15. Actually, when I was watching the final day coverage it looked like he was throwing a Yo-Zuri Rattle-n-Vibe. Not sure though.
  16. Man that thing is saweeeeeet Does anybody know if there will be a US version?

I used to mostly use the ZOOM horny toad but now the only frog I use is the Stanley Ribbit. It has great action, very durable, and you can retrieve them as slow as you want. I fish the Ribbit on a 7' Heavy action Daiwa rod, 60lb Stren Super Braid, and a 6.3:1 Shimano Citica reel. I rig the frog on a 4/0 Gammy Superline hook with a 1/16oz weight for extra casting distance.
  18. I put a #6 on the back and a #4 on the front, for brand I go with Owners and sometimes Gamakatsu.
  19. Don't forget about swimmin a jig. This is a good alternative to a spinnerbait in shallow water, take a 1/4-3/8oz jig, put a twintail grub trailer on it, throw it out there, and reel it straight back in. It's just like spinnerbait fishing but with a jig, and it can be the ticket when everyone else is pitching a jig or throwin a spinnerbait.
  20. I generally flyfish for trout with a 4-weight outfit for the smaller creeks. I use a lot of small clouser minnows, woolly buggers, and pheasant tail nymphs that I tie. I also use an assortment of dryflies, depending on the hatch, but I don't tie very many of those.
  21. When it comes to shotguns, I love my Remingtons. But if your talking about rifles then Ruger and Winchester are my favorites.
  22. Sorry about this horrible incident, him and his family will be in my prayers.
  23. hmm...well the frog is most effective in weeds and since you don't have much of that you really have no need to throw a frog. Sure the frog will work, but with the lack of vegetation you don't really need to spend the money to buy a bunch of frogs. I suggest you just stick to a regular buzzbait or other topwater.
  24. Never heard of em, got a pic?
  25. Actually almost every pro on Diawa's prostaff are now using either the Steez line or the old TD-X's.
