Fly Rod for LM, Smallmouth etc
That's exactly why I mentioned the Redington Predator. It has been compared favorably to the Sage BASS rods (same parent company), at roughly half the cost. It's also cheaper than the Avid the OP was looking at. Redington makes some goooood sticks!!! Even the Crosswater is very good for the price.

Fly Rod for LM, Smallmouth etc
Nothing wrong with your choice at all...Nothing...If you want a general purpose rod go with a 5 or 6 weight. You can, in fact, catch anything that swims up to and including steelhead (not recommended) on a 6 weight rod. A weight forward line will cast all but the largest, bushiest of bugs well. You can tailor your leader to do a lot of the work for you. You do not need two spools, and $400 rods to start out with. That's for next Christmas

BPS bionic blade
I used one all summer and I was not overly impressed by it. I'd agree there are better sticks for the price range.

Any bass flyfisherman here? Need suggestions
Cabelas has them on sale from time to time. Bass Pro, but I haven't bought from them for a long time. Gander Mountain, but it's a limited selection. All decent quality. You might google discount flies and see what turns up!

Raccoon, but only because I haven't been on Wawasee for ages...I'd guess they're all either turning over or really close.

Breatheables and studded felts. You can always layer up with fleece in the cold weather.

Are Length/Slot Limits Still Revelant?
We've got a state park around here with a slot limit and it's the same deal. TONS of skinny dinks and slots on the short end. Anything you catch that's an over is a giant head on a skinny body. No forage other than gills. It's pathetic.

Which do you think a bass prefers?
Shad/Baitfish strictly because of the availability factor. I'm sure they'd eat a craw over a fish because of the ease of capture, but they are often not that prevalent...

Help with choosing a split-grip rod!
I ordered an Excel this morning!

Moving to Indiana
Farmersburg is about 10 miles south of TH. Depending on the weather, there may not be a freeze up. Just depends on the weather. Most of the big ones around here are the last to freeze over.

Moving to Indiana
That would be correct about TC, there are also some reports beginning to surface about a fish kill due to some type of chemical poisoning from mine waste...I've hunted TC recently, but haven't fished it for probably 20 years. Patoka is also a possibility about an hour or so South.

Moving to Indiana
Minnehaha SFWA, Greene Sullivan State Forest, Shakamak State Park will get you started, trolling motor only. The nearest "motor" lakes are probably Raccoon and Mill Creek in Illinois!
