  1. Whatever crankbait that you used last time when it was the last one of that kind you have and now lives on a stump in 15 feet of water...
  2. Out of the "cheapo" units, I have been more impressed with the newer Garmins. I've had and used Humminbird, Eagle, Lowrance. Again, this is for the cheaper units. I would go for the 200, myself.

Because if you miss, it's gone. If you hit the line, it's gone. If you hang the lure on the outside of the net bag, it's gone. If it decides to run the opposite direction, it's gone because it can swim a lot faster than you can sweep. If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will. Let him lead it into/over the hoop and then you can lift up from underneath. That sounds like how you are doing it.
  4. I've done it for all but three of mine. Just do your homework and realize that shipping works both ways if you don't like it!
  5. What you get is a nice, lite rod that excels at throwing crankbaits. I couldn't tell you how much it weighs. Honestly, I don't care. It feels marginally heavier than a comparable graphite rod, but you'd expect it to since it's glass. The blank is flat black except for where the windings have been finished. The accents are wrapped in red thread. EVA grips. There's no foregrip. The downlocking reel seat has exposed threads at the front of the reel seat. If you have rough threads (mine had the reel seat assembly loose and up the blank when I took it out of the tube and bag and it bouncing around may have caused it) or grab your rod in front of the reel, this could be an issue for you. I used it to throw everything from squarebills to 5 and 6xds this weekend and it handled them all with zero issues. Sensitivity is good. You can feel when you are ticking weed and hitting bottom or wood. The shallow runners loaded up the rod perfectly without it feeling too stiff. When running the deep divers it has a nice gentle parabolic action when bowed up without feeling mushy, if that makes sense. I never felt that the rod lacked backbone or was overpowered by the deep divers. Hooksets are easy with a nice gentle sweep. Most importantly, after losing a tourney last week because of fish pulling hooks out with the other rod that I was using, this weekend I lost no fish at all. Zero. Thanks to that, we finished 2nd. Would I buy another one? Hell yes, in a heartbeat and not just because it made me some money this weekend. It's a d**n nice rod, especially for the price. The lack of warranty does not bother me at all and don't let it bother you. It swings way over it's weight, price wise and isn't that all you can ask for?
  6. I ran 5 and 6 xds this weekend with no issues at all. There's enough backbone to handle it.
  7. I have 5 different types of reels. 6 different types of rods. I use right hand reels, so I switch hands on the fly. Whatever works for you, or doesn't, but playing with a reel in the aisle of the sporting goods store is about like going to a Chevy dealership to look at a Vette and deciding you don't like it without driving it.
  8. 7 foot MH, glass crankbait. The model number is 705CB. Won't get to test drive it until Sunday. And as far as TW goes, I will not buy a rod anywhere else unless it's something they don't carry (like 5'6" pistol grips). Finally, a company that doesn't try to snap it off in you on shipping.
  9. This. Either use green Trilene or purple Stren (for night fishing with black light).
  10. That will work fine. I use flat connectors or you can use small alligator clips to attach the wires to the posts. You might also consider a smaller 12v battery since they don't draw that much juice. The biggest PITA is getting the transducer rigged up and clamped down. If you've got motor mounts, that would work.
  11. TW and BPS. Just got my Powell Diesel crankbait rod from TW today! 74.99 including 2nd day air.

    Salute!
  13. I like Trilene and have used Stren as well.
  14. We caught the hell out of fish today on 6XDs.
  15. Straight tail. The color is up to you. Usually 1/4 oz, sometimes 3/8 weight, but I'm only going down 14 feet or so. I also cheat and use 1/0 circle hooks.
  16. I've used VMC worm hooks in the past and haven't had any problems. I just bought a pack of shakey heads a couple of weeks back, but haven't put them in the water yet.
  17. Roboworms, Strike King Finesse worms. That's it. I've used flukes and Yum and Power Bait and haven't done squat, so I stick to the first two.
  18. Never, ever had any issues with Laser Sharps. I've still got some of the originals that I bought in the hook box.
  19. The "this is all made up BS, except for the unidentified noise" disclaimer is in about the very last 5 seconds of the broadcast. It is three different screens and goes by REALLY fast.
  20. I use a lightning rod with a PQ and 65lb braid. Works fine and if it breaks, I'm not going to throw up.

Net in the water and lead the fish into it head first. Always. If you get in the habit of swiping it will cost you a fish because they can move a hell of a lot faster than you can swipe a net.
  22. Floating rattle trap. No joke.
