The buzzbait bite up here for me has been pretty much non-existent for 3 years. It kills me, because I used to do very well with them. My go to topwaters are a spit'n image and a spook jr. Both work great for me day and night.

How bad can Boucher really be? The Flyers lost the top seed in the playoffs with like a week or two left in the regular season. You don't get there without a decent goalie, but he's just not exactly on top of his game right now. Heck, look what happened to Rask last year? Besides, not having Pronger in this series makes a huge difference. That's like the B's playing without Chara.

It would be nice to see the B's finish the series tonight...Should be a great game tho. The Flyers will be a tough team to beat tonight with their backs against the wall. They have too much history and tradition to mail it in.

The one I caught this year I knew was my PB, but I have no weight only measurements: 23 1/4" length x 21" girth 1 1/2 weeks after ice out this year on a single spin 1/2 oz homemade spinnerbait. The other one I caught on Easter Sunday last year had no mesurements or weight and was caught on a home made arky head jig and single tail 3" grub. I have a pic on it. It was laying on a box that was 12" long, so I was able to scale the box and then the fish and it was 20" length, couldn't determine the girth. I guessed at 18" based on how it scaled.

Thanks Rhino. The reason for this thread: On Patriots Day (Boston Marathon) I worked and went to the Lexington Res for lunch. I felt the water and it was still pretty cold. I walked along this steep bank section where a lot of bass were basking in the sun next to blue gill right up against the bank in about 1-2 FOW. The other day when I fished it I saw a few fanned spots in the nothern and northeast sections of the res and the water was in the low 60's. I caught a couple bass in very skinny water and at least 5 more bites that I whiffed on in skinny water as well. This res isn't very deep and has a tendancy to warm really fast and will let the bass spawn a bit earlier than most bodies of water I frequent. Let me know when you see some spawn activity down there, Rhino.

I hope she outfishes ya...LOL...JK You're lucky that your GF likes to fish. My wife wants nothing to do with it, unless of course, the kids want to come with me, then she's all for it, she gets a few hours off. Enjoy your day out there, GMAN and good luck.

It sounds like you have the right gear, what lures are you using? Lures with trebles are almost impossible for a bank fisher fishing matted grass. Lures with a single hook would be a bit easier.

Easy guys. I was at a small body of water and saw a few spots that were fanned out and no bass around them. I thought it was a bit early for a spawn, so I wanted to ask a simple question to anyone in the area if they noticed any spawn beds at their lakes.

My 2 cents: Most peeps complain that the so-called "cheap" spinnerbaits use a barrel, roller or crane swivel and have had problems with them rusting or freezing and not allowing the blade to spin freely. That was a problem, but I would use the brass ones now available which are nickel plated or a ball bearing swivel which I prefer. If you find yourself with a so-called "cheap" spinnerbait and have that problem, then switch out the barrel, roller or crane swivel for a brass/nickel plated one or a ball bearing swivel. It's cheap and easy to do. Replacing skirts is easy enough to do as well and that wouldn't break the bank on a so-called "cheap" spinnerbait upgrade. Hooks: I don't care what anyone says, they get dull. You can't replace the hook like your trebles on a crankbait, just break out the file or stone and start sharpening after a few uses. Wire: Most so-called "cheap" spinnerbaits use thinner wire. That's a preference to a true spinnerbait angler. Lighter wire will transmit the vibration the blade is making back up to your rod. Thicker wire will stand up better after fighting fish or hard hard strikes. You'll need to tune both, but not as much with thicker wire. Thicker wire will not transmit the vibration from the balde like the thinner wire. For me, I go in between light and heavy, between .035 and .040 is ideal for my spinnerbaits. Blades: My ideal spinnerbait will have a snap on the swivel so I can switch blades at will. The snap? An added expense to all the spinnerbaits I buy. To answer your question, you can upgrade so-called "cheap" spinnerbaits for a heck of a lot less than buying an expensive one and get the same results, unless you are fixated on a particular brand(s). Then you need to ask yourself; What would hurt less? Throwing a more expensive spinnerbait into a wall of weeds not knowing if its gonna come back or throwing a cheaper one?

I've been buying spinnerbait, buzzbait & jig heads pre-cast and painted, and adding skirts & hardware of my choice. I find a huge savings in doing this way, plus I get the colors and hardware I want. I do own a jig mold so I can make my own jigs, but that's usually reserved for the winter. I built four of my rods, all St. Croix, and I found that it saved me money back then, but I can't verify that now. I haven't built a new one in a long time. The last 2 builds I did, were rebuilds. I really liked these 2 rods and use them a lot. I can't find them anymore, so I stripped all the hardware, reel seat and grip, refinished and added all new components. A lot of labor and not a lot of materials I needed to buy. My 2 cents.

My son was 5 when he learned a baitcaster. I had him starting with a spincast at first just to get the feel of it with a crankbait and no hooks. "Push the button, cast, release." Then I set a target up in the yard. I had him push the button, cast release, keep the thumb on the button and "push the button in (stopping the spool) at the target." Next was the baitcaster. I cranked down the spool tension knob so the lure barely fell to the ground. "Push the thumb bar, hold the spool with your thumb, cast (like you did with the other reel) stop the spool when you think you're gonna hit the target." I put those in quotes becasue he recites it while he casts...LOL He's now 6 and hasn't looked back.

OMG, what a pig! 6 lb test would certainly crank the ticker up a few notches. WTG JF! That must have been a real thrill to have your son there as well to see that.

Yesterday and today were the only times I've been out in 2 weeks, so as far as a constant temp, I can't verify that they were in the 60's for a long period of time. Yesterday and today those 2 water systems were in the low 60's in the shallows. And why are you posting in here, you're from NY! LOL

I was fishing at a reservoir in Lexington today and notice a few bare spots which appeared to be spawn beds. I didn't see any bass on them, but the beds were definitely fanned out just recently. Any of you guys noticing any early spawners? The water temps was certainly warm enough for the spawn season to start there. I fished in Milton yesterday, but I didn't see anything that indicated any signs of a spawn, but the water temps there were warm as well. I did see some fry in the shallows at the public beach area.

What a game that was. I will admit, the Flyers deserved to win that game, but Thomas stood on his head and stole that one for the B's. That was playoff hochey at its best. As Bilge would say "a real barn burner".
