  1. Toray has the 1/2 way mark. buy a line counter for $15 and use it when spooling up, saves headaches and prevents wasted line.
  2. No real issues with the sunfish. Not the sharpest ever, but nothing a couple strokes of a file couldn't fix.
  3. Pit Boss.
  4. Since there's still a ton of snow and ice up here, this is a "looks and feels" review. Dicks is having 6 for $25 deal on Savage Gear frogs and mice (the weedless frog type). Got 2 regular frogs, 2 popping frogs and 2 mice, all in both sizes they offer. The hooks are sticky sharp but canted inward a bit, especially on the mice. The will need a bit of bending for sure. The skirt material is more of a fine cut rubber. The bodies are close to a Pad Crasher in softness/thickness. They appear to have a fairly deep/keeled body on the frog. The all seem like really good quality products. The tiny yellowish gray mouse screams "mole that fell in". Now if Spring would show up... Also picked up a couple of the Jawbone sunfish... Really really nice.
  5. Buy it all. Or hide it someplace and let me know where. I have a meeting in Waterbury on the 14th and will go at lunch. Jigs, Flip with it, Carolina Rigs (you live in VT, you WILL learn this technique).
  6. A used TDZ for $100 is the best $100 reel
  7. It seems like a strange name/price point. At that price they are competing with used nrx, glx (on sale), and the orochi xx. With the name tied to the IMX model... Who thinks that it can compete in the same price range as the orochi? I know it's marketing and it could be called the GLoomis McNugget and still sell.
  8. So for whatever MY opinion matters. Swimbaits of that size can be thrown on a variety of rods (Saltwater, Musky). Look for house brand rods when they go on sale, for example I have an 8' XH Cabelas Tourney Trail "Musky" rod that is awesome for 3-5oz baits, I paid less than $40 for it new. Punching and flipping rod, another that I have had that I thought was a good rod was the Powell Diesel 765, and those are on sale at TW right now. You aren't going to get one rod that will do what you are looking for, but with some poking around you will find stuff cheap that will get your bases covered.
  9. Pick on or the other. NO rod will do what you are asking.
  10. Flip/Frog 50lb (mostly the heavy cover/digging issues) Moving 30lb Spinning 10lb with a top shot. I've used super cheap braid up to Daiwa Samurai, for me the best for the buck is still OG Power Pro, or when you can get Sunline Braids on sale.
  11. Mask and snorkel... Since it's probably fried, get a big magnet to drag around.
  12. If it gives you more confidence then chances are you will have greater success. That alone can make it worth it. Just be sure of what you want.
  13. It's IPT that counts, swimbait reels have a slightly larger spool diameter generally (unless you use a Tatula HD or something). A 6.? Will pull in more than enough line for most baits/applications.
  14. Did you check with Lowe on that being ok? I know some boats/models have issues with direct mount anchors.
  15. I'd look at the regular depth one for jighead and weight storage. After having a 3700 fall from table height to a carpeted floor and explode, I'm looking for stiffer and stronger box. But $30.... eeeesh.
  16. Up here it's now Alewives. I'm not posting a picture, because I'd get myself in trouble with some St Paulie Girl picture or something.
  17. Download old shows onto the Ipod/phone and use the Bluetooth speaker. Smallmouth love an extended Grateful Dead Jam.
  18. I thought it was a pumpkinseed too, and we don't have Redear up in Vermont
  19. Use a magnet on the back of the plate as insurance should a screw back out or a zip tie get cut. The Tire idea above is pretty slick.
  20. The Staples: Pointers (78/100) Vision 110 Slender Pointer Flash Minnow The "Still Carry Them": Suspending Long A Smithwick Rogue (deep and suspending) X-Rap (Deep and Reg)
  21. I've purchased 5 from eBay via Japan with no issues in the last 12 months, never more than 120. Front plates get scratched up if you look at them wrong, but that's cosmetic. Most parts are still readily available.
  22. none of mine bleed (TW and Academy)
