Where Do You Keep Your Boat
You could ask the person who currently has the boat if he would be gracious enough to let you store it there either for free since he is giving it away or for some rent if it is not too far from home.

Lake Anna, Va
If I were you I would shy away from SML this time of year simply due to the amount of boat traffic, Anna is going to be tough enough to handle but will be a lot better than SML, unless you are fishing at night. It depends on what time you are launching and where, you need to bring a few extra bucks and pick up a SPRO frog at Anna point marina if you want to fish on top but you HAVE TO BE THERE EARLY for top water to really get the best action, It will work all day for you but it's much harder with the boat traffic during the day. As I was suggesting to dahmi013 if your equiptment can spot rock/brush piles off of the primary points there an 11 inch worm pumpkinseed/chartuce works good on a C-rig or shaky head but be very slow. The docks hold some pretty good fishing as well but be really slow around them. SURE BET is live bait 15 feet below a bobber and sit back and relax a while as you troll. Good luck and be safe!!! PS: If you go the live bait route make sure your rod is secure either in your hands or attached to the boat !!!

Worth Buying A New Motor?
The largest problem I see with Johnson/Rude are the carbs for hard starting conditions, Not to say there aren't other issues you may have ie...Carbon build up, but The ethanol in todays fuel is eating up the inside of fuel lines and sending trash into the rest of the system, Since you stated it runs good after you get it started I am only assuming there are no mechanical issues. Usually you will notice that the primer bulb if you have one will get firm when you prime but in most cases with all models that use primer bulbs it will still feel a little soft at the end of your prime... almost like the carbs are not getting full and you have to keep priming...that is a good indication that there is trash stuck or built up in the needle/seat area not allowing the needle to fully seat and shut the fuel passage. If there is trash in your system it will most likely be in the small ports of your carbs as well ie...the most effected being the idle circuts, the whole fuel system should be serviced at this point but will cost you a whole lot less than an upgrade to a different model engine.

Over-Analyzing
I like this answer the best...Don't over analize what you already know to be true.

Bass Wrapping Line Around Tree
That I have found to be true as well, If you keep constant LIGHT pressure on the line the fish will eventually work it's way free. Where I fish there is not much standing timber either but there are a lot of lay downs and beaver huts they get tangled in.

Its Hot The Fish Are Biting Central Va Lets Get Together
I live about an hour East of you, I would be taking 81 to 64 over Afton then 20 to 15 but to read what you have posted about Briery I think it would be worth the trip. By the way that was a pretty nice pic you posted, I assume that was Briery with the tree stumps and the sunset.

Lake Anna, Va
Congrads on the first C-rigged fish and get used to the rig you use it a lot at Anna, Hope you do well this weekend. Good luck with the truck too. I hope to meet up with you at Anna at some point in time but this weekend I am heading down to Buggs Island for the first time But I fish Anna a lot. The best place to get one of those maps that Sam had mentioned while you are there is at the state park they are free for the asking if you stop at the park headquarters, You pay your launch fee at the front gate which I think is 8 or 9 bucks but they have a great launch to use and if you launch from there you are pretty close to those places I was telling you about. Good luck and be safe and let us know how you did.

Its Hot The Fish Are Biting Central Va Lets Get Together
Anna is pretty rough on smaller boats unless you are up top somewhere in the shallows or like you said back in a cove. If Anna is a thought it would have to be later in the season like October. I would like to try Briery creek is that electric only?

Lake Anna, Va
Nowhere there is free, unless you are camping at one of the campgrounds. As Sam Stated the docks are usually pretty good make sure you slow down and get under them because they get a lot of pressure but if you go again there are several areas that are also good. Focus on the primary points there this time of year and look for brush/rock piles off of those points, also there is a couple of places where the lake narrows especially where the old river used to run before it was a lake, If you get a map you will see where these places are. The upper part of the lake was still stained the last time I was there but it holds some pretty good fish, Terry's run, Pummunky branch, Christopher run are places you do not want to miss out on... just watch your sonar there are some tricky shallow areas that are not marked !!! Top water baits early in the am around grassy points are AWESOME in the upper part of the lake and switch to C-rigged or T-rigged lizzards, Senko's etc... as the sun starts to warm up fish a little deeper off of the banks, Pumpkin seed/Chartruce, Watermelon/red colors work pretty good most of the time. You should pay a visit to Anna point marina they have some amazing baits there. Good luck and be safe !! Let us know how your next trip goes.

Ugh
LOL...Im not that old yet but I think im catching up with you, I absolutely love this great sport also and ditto on the period. I am on the water every chance I get either by myself or with the family and no matter how the fishing is going I am always enjoying the moment(Fishing or not) just for the simple fact that there may not be one more moment tomorrow. I look at it this way...Every day is a school day you always learn something new if you open your eyes and your mind. A musky jitterbug hhhmmmm...Never thought of that...Thanx I will give it a try!!!

Ugh
I am lucky enough to live close to a lake that has a nuke plant so I get to fish ALL year long and this year has been one of the best years so far since I have been going there. For the past 5 years I have struggled and struggled just trying to catch fish that I know are there and have fought through some pretty desperate times just trying to find at least one thing that worked. Then I found this web site and I think Sam said it best KEEP FISHING!! One of the best things I learned from Sam was making mental notes...I used pen and paper to start with...but all of those weather conditions and different baits on different days on top of this on top of that PHEW!!! I started to scratch through all of the things that did not work and was left with two lessons 1 being patience the other more patience. So what do I do in times like yours...Research, Develop a new plan and try again...If that don't work, Budweiser and lots of it.

Briery Creek Lake...

Question Regarding Bass Behavior
The private ponds and small areas that have an over abundunce of fish will make the fish more aggressive when there is a lack of food. So when you hook one, another will be there to catch any part of the bait that gets left behind, it's pretty cool to watch I totally agree!!! One of my friends and I were fishing a clear water area much like yours and I watched as he brought his fish in and when the fish he had on his line came up out of the water so did two others it was like watching syncronised swimming lol.

Early Heat In Virginia

How To Get Fuel Tank Pickup Out
The one I had worked on recently had a o-ring inside that sealed it and was difficult to remove too. I ended up calling the manufacturer also to be sure. Get the model number and have all of your info ready and call (732)751-1200 and they will help you. That is the help desk number for your tank.

Horsepower Restricted Lakes
Which waters will you be fishing the most to start with? The boat itself will not win tourny's...You will. If I may I would suggest something in between like a aluminum with somewhere around the 40 horse range especially if you fish the river that has a lot of rocks and current...If you hit a rock with the glass boat it will not hold up as good as the aluminum. Do these electric only places have a lot of tree stumps etc...to get hung up on. With an aluminum boat the options seem to be unlimited and are very comfotable to fish from plus they will hold a good value when it does come time to step up to a glass boat should you ever decide to sell it. The best thing I like with aluminum boats is that you can get everything you want in a boat and still pay only a quarter of what a glass boat cost's, If you are considering new or slighly used. If you will be fishing primarily larger lakes and rivers then I would suggest a glasser but the way it sounds in your post that is not the case since you stated that the only good water is the river for unlimited horsepower. It is easy to get caught up in wanting a glasser and there is no problem with getting one but you have to ask yourself how practical would one be for you? As far as the stability factor goes you can get good performance from both but here again it all depends on where your primary fishing is going to take place, I have a 17' Nitro glasser and in rougher waters it is not much more stable than my buddy's aluminum Bass Tracker. Good luck with what ever you decide to get and send us some pic's!!!

Virginia Fishing Tournament
Don't know if you are interested or if it is too far for you but Lake Anna has open Friday night tourny's and for your boat that would be better due to the fact that most of the larger boats are either comming off the water or soon will be off the water. The last one I was in it was only 20 bucks and the launch fee of 8 or 9 bucks. It's a lot of fun if you want to know what a tourny is like and not a whole lot of pressure.

Transmission For A 77 Johnson, 85 Hp
You pay your money, you take your chances, You get what you pay for...It all means the same, The real question is...Is it worth it to you? If there is no oil in it, Is that due to the shipping regulations or did it not have any oil when it was advertised? Look really close at the lower unit case for cracks or damage, Even if it is damaged and you have to use your existing case and IF the gears are in good shape I would say you did good on price considering where you are located. Good luck!!!

I have a couple of friends that have never been there too and they are interested also, We want to bring the campers and make a weekend out of it. I know we want to fish Chic also but not sure what date is going to be available yet.
