central va meet and greet/ fun tournament
I like that idea a lot and it is after all a meet and greet so you have a great point Sam. I am not sure exactly, Where is innsbrook? I was thinking a lot about this "get together" last night and I think if we can all get together on this we can probably come up with a meet and greet plan by next year and fish some of our favorite places 2 or 3 times so everyone can have a chance to get together. For instance May or June Innsbrook June or July chick July or aug Anna Of course these are just examples, But I think it gives all of us northern Va. guy's and girls a chance to be able to make plans ahead of time to get to one or more of these and have some fun. I have not fished Chick yet but I have been itching to get there and Smith Mountain Lake too but I think these larger lakes need to be set up for early or late months so the boat traffic is not so bad and we can all enjoy it.

central va meet and greet/ fun tournament
That would be awesome but the votes are tied now between innsbrook and lake Anna and it would only be fair to have some kind of tie breaker. Or to set two dates one at one place and one at another would that work for everyone? I think what is being done here is an awesome idea and maybe sometime in the future we can set dates for a north/south Va. meet and greet/fun tournament too and make these like a yearly thing. Anyone else up for that or do you think it's a stupid idea.

central va meet and greet/ fun tournament
The 21st or 22nd will work for me as well. The cold side or public side of lake Anna is a pretty good place to be with lots of room for all especially at the state park ramp. What time and what boat launch do you guy's prefer,There are several to choose from. Anna marina,High point marina,Sturgeon's creek marina,Lake Anna state park. They are all relatively close to one another. I would suggest the state park but I will go with whatever suits you guy's. There is not much pressure there at the state park as far as tourny's are concerned and getting out of or trying to fish around Sturgeon's will be a challenge for those who have smaller craft's if it is busy that weekend unless they stay around the marina which does yield some pretty good fishing but will be hard to find a parking spot. Anna point and High point will be the same if they are having tourny's that weekend as well.

People do it all the time even in smaller crafts.

central va meet and greet/ fun tournament
I voted for the cold side of lake Anna. It's already a 2 hour hike from my house but I think launching from the state park would supply enough room for everyone so far and should provide enough land for those who want to fish from shore. Racer894, This is a fun tourny no need to worry about winning or losing, It's all about getting to know people and do some fishing. Newbie or not we all are going to learn something from this experience.

lake anna public or private boat landing address
Wayne, I think the other one is high point marina and there is also the state park you can launch from too thats not far from there.

Would lake Anna be out of the question? I don't know if any of my daughters will join me and I know my wife will go for sure, If it is just the 2 of us I can put one on my boat. I also have a 14' jon boat that if i can figure out how to bring it seats 3

HOT BRAKES !!
You stated brake pads are these caliper style brakes? Did you smell the brakes being hot or just noticed the grease on the wheels? If you only noticed the grease on the wheels with no smell and you serviced the bearings when the pads were replaced, I would tend to agree with farmpond1, You may have slightly over packed the cavity in the hub or assuming if the hubs were removed you may have overtightened the bearings. If the brakes smelled hot when you had seen the grease on the wheels. You may have a caliper slider sticking not letting the caliper move enough and causing the pad or pads drag on the rotor. It could also be the pads that you have used. The pad material could be too metallic for your application so that when the brakes are applied the heat generated can not be easily dissipated.

How late in the season do you fish??

Lake shenendoah, Harrisonburg Va.
I agree I have never caught a spot from any of the lakes or rivers here yet...Not to say there can not be any here but I have fished that lake a good bit and have never pulled out a spotted bass. I like lake Shenandoah but the grass there is really bad and gets wrapped up in my trolling motor a lot.

if you could....
Man that really is a tough question. I would have to choose Clay Dyer. I think he would have a lot to offer.

How late in the season do you fish??
All year round. I am lucky enough to live close to a lake that was developed for a nuclear power plant. Even in the dead of winter I have seen water temps as high as 67 to 70 degrees and some have said it even gets warmer than that.

top water when it counts
Top water has yielded a lot of wins in tournaments at my local lake and across the country for ages, Why would you not use it? I know people who think that same thing about the lower landing percentage but as for me it was only due to the fact that I reacted too quickly to the strike and did not feel the fish before setting the hook. I think top water should be one of the first things out of your arsenal of weapons that you use for the day.

When YOU go out...
My day starts at 4:30, warming up the boat a few minutes and heading out to one of my 5 favorite morning spots after thanking the man upstairs for blessing me with this gift for the day. My favorite lake is a 9000 acre lake that has a nuclear power plant, and has a private side and a public side, The private side is where the exhausted water is returned to the lake. As my day always starts in one of my favorite spots I will use top water baits...spro frogs yellow/white and pumpkinseed and cavitrons. As the sun just starts to top the tree lines I will switch to trick worms and lizards and jigs in watermelon/red usually, and start working the shadows and drop-offs and as the day progresses to full up sun I will go deeper with jigs and swim baits and crank baits while working on my tan. ;D As noon progresses to evening I will use whatever is working and stay with it until the mood changes and then revert back to jerk baits and jigs until closer to sunset, And work crank baits and swim baits closer to shore and as the sun sets back to top water until dark. Load the boat and drive 2 hours back home. Makes for a long day but I can't think of any other way I would rather do it.

Now that was a gift.
Cool thinking on your daughter's part. If she thinks enough of you to do something like that for you then not only do you have a great daughter, That means you are a great father too !!! Congrats on the gift.

How fast should my boat go
WOW, I will normally not run mine hard and generally 40 to 50 is all the faster I go, unless a storm rolls in from out of nowhere and I need to get back in a hurry. I have driven one at 72 and that was enough for me, I would most likly POOP at 80. LOL!!

How fast should my boat go
They usually are not even close. These are all gps speeds, when he told me how fast we were going, I had to go get gps for myself. My speedo does not work yet.

How fast should my boat go
Wayne I have no doubt his boat will do what he says we were doing. My question is I really am having a hard time believing that mine was going almost as fast. The max I have ever had my boat with a gps is 57.2 and that was on glass like water and pushing it hard with only myself in it. This particular time I had my wife with me and got more speed? That just does not add up and I think he was pulling my leg unless the boat set level, or something changed I am just having a hard time believing mine was doing somewhere around 60 to 61 mph.

How fast should my boat go
Way2Slow, I have a question, My friend has a jav 18' with a Johnson 150 looper, I have a TF170 Nitro with a 115 rude and we were on the lake one day and decided to...play. He told me that he was doing 62.4 according to his gps. Now he was going faster than I was and I was maxed out getting all I could get out of mine, But he was not pulling away either. Now I don't know how fast I was going but at the rate he was pulling in front could not have been more than 1 mph. Me personally I don't think that my boat is capable of going that fast although it does make me wonder since it takes a quarter tank of fuel to get it on plane. LOL I have had it up to 55.4 before with my gps but conditions were much different and I did have a little throttle left but not much, Is it possible he is not fibbing me?

New to Fishing
First of all welcome!!! 2nd I would get a 3/8 oz football jig and dress it in either chartreuse or watermelon colors and add a black crawler to it, Throw it out let it sink to the bottom and wait for at least a minute and then move it slowly about a foot to a foot and a half wait another 30 seconds and repeat. Good luck, be safe, and have fun fishing!!
